Counter Strike: Global Offensive

So does it feel any different from the beta? Does the aiming still feel a bit sluggish?
I honestly think the aiming has been fantastic in all source games since they put in the "raw input" option. Best mouse feel out of any first person shooter I have ever played. I am pretty sensitive to this. I have never played bioshock more than once because the mouse controls felt very sluggish.

The thing is, I can go from Source to CS GO and I can tell that CS GO has more sluggish mouse controls.

Hadn't seen it. My control feels exactly the same as source. Are you using extraneous mouse software like the logitech profile stuff?

Haven't played anything CS for years... and honestly the new modes (Arms Race and Demolition) are insanely fun compared to the classic modes. I don't think I can go back now.

I find myself playing Arms race + Demolition just because they are faster paced. I enjoy them alot.

Are you able to play offline with bots? I value my self-esteem too much to try and play online lol.

Yes, but I literally cannot see any reason to do this. 100% of the fun down the drain.

Also the guns feel way better than the last time I played in beta, the sound engine is actually fucking functioning well, and it's pretty fun overall if you get into a tense game.

Post processing still sucks fucking weens though. It's clearly toned down but it's still ugly as shit.

Don't worry about K/D, worry about team contribution. There will just be times where even the best players will have a terrible K/D due to the crappyness of their team, or the other teams superiority. However you can learn a lot, and just have fun.

Don't be afraid of death in a game! Worst case scenario, you can follow the excellent players and learn from them while you wait for the next round to start.

I'm afraid of my teammates telling me to go back to COD and calling me names :(

CS:GO is just a CS:S with updated graphics with added/new game modes, right ? (Similar to what Condition Zero was to original Counter Strike).

There's a lot of gameplay changes. It's 100% still CS at the core, gameplay wise, but shit weapons are considerably less shit now among some other changes like penetration, economy, etc. The Deagle is not the only pistol any more that can 1 dome helmeted people, for example.

I'm afraid of my teammates telling me to go back to COD and calling me names :(

Why do you give a fuck?

Try to do these things:
- Listen carefully, sound is super important, so revel in it. Glance at the radar when in doubt to make sure it's not a teammate you're about to shit on because you heard some footsteps.
- Don't spray like an absolute psychopath, it's not going to work unless you get lucky or you're generally close. Aim for the head and burst.
- Communicate if you can, if you hear or see someone somewhere, call it. Just say it over voice.
- Learn to use nades, flash into sites (but don't flash your team). One good flash could spell one dead team for them.

Congrats you're better than a huge chunk of the random pub populace. The tense games that end up being really fucking close, and your whole team is working together are the best.

:)

Looking on my side, its 64 FPS, going to change that to 500 FPS

EDIT: done, also what was your ping?

The reason it took him so long to connect the first time is because Valve had a retard moment and makes the server rehash the .vpk files on server start/restart.

server side fps has nothing to do with connections. CSGO server FPS will remain the same as tickrate.

Kinda curious if the eLo thing has started yet. My first 5 auto matches since the game release had me utterly destroying the other team. By the end of it we were just fucking about being silly because the other guys didn't stand a chance every game.

No, different company. Different engine. Source is more of a platform than a specific engine like Unreal 3, I think the speculation is that this is based on the L4D2 version of the Source engine. Unfortunately the only time I've ever seen Gabe own up to Engine names is that Portal 2 is Source v18. At any rate it's much more accurate and snapfire than CSS. Though not quite the Quake movement from 1.6 it's much closer to 1.6. Tonight I found my myself constantly registering headshots I never would have made in Source due to the terrible hitboxes and lag.

All in all yes this has completely no question replaced CS:Source for me. I doubt I will ever launch source again and I played that game regularly for 7 years.

UE3 itself has gone under many significant changes since it was released. Probably more so than Source for all we know.

Played for an hour yesterday and loved it. Will be playing some more tonight.

Strange, I am capable of easily picking people off in source (headshots) and find the registry in GO a lot worse. I don't spray.

I know fps has nothing to do on connecting. I was just noted that it was 64 fps so I changed it.

Can we even change the Tickrate in csgo?

Something seems wrong with triple buffering on this game. When I turn it on, I instantly get huge mouse lag, even in the menu. I keep it enabled in pretty much every other game. I didnt see any tearing though with it disabled, so its all good.

Updated my server. then full right off the bat

Release notes for 8/22 Update

- Addressed some stability issues.
- Fixed perf issues when logging is enabled.

- Added a convar (cl_crosshairgap) to control the gap of the classic crosshair.
- The smoke grenade smoke is now taller so it's now more useful to use it to block places like double-doors in dust2.
- Players can no longer interrupt another player defusing the bomb by standing in between them and the bomb.
- Disabled sv_pure on listen servers.
- Fixed an sv_pure bug that resulted in false inconsistent MD5s
- Increased search iterations and time delay for keeping sessions in the ignored pool. mm_ignored_sessions_reset can now reset the ignored pool.
- Fixed a case where MOTD prevents input to the team select screen.
- Fixed occasional "server is full" error when matchmaking into classic casual games.
- Fixed an exploit where a vote could be called for an invalid map.

- added some sound mix settings suggested by pros
- increased the volume of bullet impacts and ricochets
- increased the volume of 3rd person footsteps
- increased the volume of weapon foley sounds (reloads, etc.)
-decreased the volume of ambient sounds

Prompt patching is the easiest way to populate a server haha.

Is it possible to set ELO restrictions on the server? I'm not asking you to do it at all, just curious if it's possible. Since I know this game tracks ELO somehow.

The only gun I have reg issues with in GO is the awp. I kept thinking I was missing because it shoots different in GO compared to Source, but then I realized after speccing the person that killed my in 3rd person, I saw the blood spots while they had 100hp in the places that my crosshair was last on them before I shot. Other than that I have good reg. The guns are a little f-ed though, don't like how inaccurate the ak is :(. The m4 is kind of bad, but not too bad.

The "blood on somewhat but I didn't hit" is a prediction error, bullet impacts are predicted to be instant, but your shot in reality isn't because of latency (in more ways than one), and neither is your actual character, but then that's compensated for anyway, and and and blah blah netcode is a lot of black magic. You can turn prediction off if I remember right, but it'll probably feel like utter shit since I don't think Source lets you do anything else than turn off ALL the prediction, which includes your movement.

That said, I was getting thrown into EU / West coast servers last night and even with 100 ping, it felt very solid and playable. IMO Source netcode has always been good (if you're not playing on a comically bad server) and this is the best it's ever been on top of that.

I am very impressed with the sound update from today. I got 3 clutch defuses in a single half thanks to pin pointing enemy footsteps.

The other thing is, reg is not perfect, it's a combination of Source engine and the server end. Too many a time where I burst point blank and not one hit, but those 1-2 headshot tappers from across the map with an ak/m4 astound the shit out of me too. To be honest, I actually like CS:S reg better and this isn't because I am used to it. The reg in source can be a nightmare, but it can be really responsive and smooth given good conditions.

I'll never get used to the feel of the mouse, in CS:S there definitely is more of a lag-free feel than GO.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure my aim isnt that bad. In CS:Source I can headshot a guy with just a few pixels of his head bobbing out from a corner.. in CS:GO not so much. It is pretty frustrating at times. Definitely more rewarding for new players.. they would be dead in source lol.

Are you using VSYNC?

Perhaps, I'm getting a bit old for these type of games. (I'm 34) I used to be quite good at FPS games such as Quake3, UT99 etc. But that's almost ten+ years ago.

My brief experience with CS:GO is that some people's reaction time is incredible. Making me frustrated. lol.

picked this up today ($15, what the hell) and having fun with it. a nice distraction for a BF3 junky.

i'm a CS rookie so a little help is appreciated: is there a 'deathmatch' style game mode? i'm having fun playing but would like to find a game mode where i can respawn. i spend more time spectating than actually playing since i get my ass handed to me pretty quickly :D. Arms Race is the only mode i've played so far with respawn. any others? server option?

There's an unofficial deathmatch mode, if you want to practice shooting then it's probably your best bet. You'll find a few if you put in deathmatch as a search tag.

Here's one from my favorites that seems good: 67.231.242.2:27025

Not sure about GO, but Source had some custom game modes. There are some servers that served up DM as well as custom types of DM like sniping only. I actually think the respawning and deathmatch detract from gameplay, but clearly some people play them. There were also RPG mods like Warcraft 3 that give auras and upgrades/bonuses.

Not a fan of any of them. My recommendation is to learn from the deaths and watch good players. If you're new to CS, I would highly recommend NEVER rushing in. Travel with your team mates, and just generally hang back. You'll survive more often that way. Once you've gotten map memorization down, as well as where enemies traditionally come from, you'll start to be able to become a more offensive player.

You're not playing DM to win, you're playing it to practice your shooting. If you're just sitting in a corner or hiding somewhere dumb with an AWP to try and pad your K/D then you're doing it wrong. You won't be learning the flow of gameplay, but you will get a feel for shooting / the maps.

Never said camp, just said hang behind your teammates. More specifically, watch what they do. Don't rush, don't be the first one into an open area. Experienced players know where enemies will be through experience, novices will not. DM doesn't teach this flow. It just teaches how to shoot your guns, which yes, is important, but as you say, doesn't contribute to your understanding of the flow of the game.

Anyone else having abysmal performance issues? Running the rig in sig @ 1080p, high/very high settings, no msaa, fxaa on, blur off-I'm having dips into <30fps when my hardware should be able to max this game out. Lowering the settings does not get rid of fps drops.

Hmm, I have it maxed out (8xmsaa) but no FXAA. And I'm locked at 240fps all the time.

Arms race has instant respawns. Also, if you play with bots, you can control them after you die.

It's a long shot but if you are running AVG turn off gaming mode.
