interesting. so it looks like XFX will have the following lineup:

HD 7970 3GB CORE Edition
ref card, 925/1375

HD 7970 3GB BLACK EDITION
binned chip, 1000/1375, 2oz copper PCB, solid capacitors

HD 7970 3GB Double Dissipation (DD) Edition
non-binned chip, 925/1375, dual fan non-reference HSF

HD 7970 3GB Black Edition Double Dissipation (DD) (the one currently offered on newegg)
binned chip, 1000/1425, 2oz copper PCB, solid capacitors, dual fan non-reference HSF

How do you know they use binned chips?

Care to share the link? Thanks!

he tried, it's blocked on [H] for some reason. the article states the black edition cards are 'binned chips', though i have no idea if it will actually affect overclocking potential.

If XFX is using binned chips then it is all the more reason to avoid a non-black cards because the better ones from the first batches delivered would have already been allocated to the black cards.

Wow at the pcper review! Wtf happen to xfire performance? Damn AMD and their drivers

Yeah, that's pretty horrid. Makes me kind of glad for not pulling the trigger here at launch. Will watch how this all plays out. I'm particularly interested in seeing if AMD can improve their crossfire driver issues.

Suddenly wondering about going to the card, even as a single setup.... was thinking it might be nice to be on a single-card setup even if it's a bit slower (when oc'd to the max) than my GTX 570 SLI but... hmm...

I think as a single card, it should be ok. But for crossfire, yeah, I'd hold out and see if AMD can improve their drivers. Looks like the problems of the past are still present. And hopefully, Nvidia will announce/show something at CES.

And yet people complained and screamed bloody murder for AMD's pricing.
And of course, they still bought.

AMD knew exactly what it was doing with the pricing. It's called good marketing. Have the fastest single card on the planet, charge whatever the market will bear. Econ 101.

Blah. XFX binning process! I hope that is marketing BS! Because I bought a XFX 7970 stock one and paid an extra 10 over sapphire. Sapphire offers all the supplies. But who knows, I guess I got the lifetime warranty. Hopefully Amazon gets theirs up so I can buy them and get them shipped.

Bitcoin hash rate will double on tuesday.

one is black edition and the other isn't. same hsf, dif clocks probably has a small part in the different results

I want an MSI and I want Amazon to get their stock. Looks like im staying up. Hell maybe tiger direct can get some and ill buy there.

Amazon has the cards at a $40-$150 markup! yeesh! Prime shipping is not worth that and makes me glad to have bought from the egg.

Further notes, Tiger Direct has not yet updated listings and Amazon has a 7950 (shipping in 1-2 months) at $539

I just looked and god damn! did they mark them up.

Looks like I might as well stick with Newegg order. Where is tigerdirect with these cards? Amazon has some 7950 listed as out of stock. They really need to lower those prices

NCIX has the XFX DD Black for $572. which is actually less than most of its other 7970s at $599. Of course, the one time I ordered from them the shipping charges were massive.

It's showing out of stock for me right now........

Sad about the Amazon markup and lack of models. Guess I'll be waiting for Amazon to level off and get stock (I've got a bunch of Amazon GCs to go towards my purchase). Also, anyone else notice half are 7950s?

yea its really pissing me off.....

I'm really shocked to see amazon be the one overpricing while newegg was pretty much msrp.

Just bit on the DD for the lifetime warranty @ NCIX

Happy early birthday to me!

Amazon is growing while newegg isn't.

I'm not shocked.
