Official Deus Ex: Human Revolution thread

God damn did this game ever kick my ass at spots. I was doing a pacifist run through on This is deus ex, and I had to give it up today! DAMN DAMN DAMN But I'll thoroughly enjoy the next playthrough, pacifist ghost on a lower difficulty <_<

I ghosted almost the entirety of the Third area. Fucking win.

And then the fifth is just kicking my ass left and right. Not enough ammo, not enough cover, not enough boost bars...

Love it :D

Haven't had a game tempt me to lower the difficulty in a VERY long time.

[edit] OH YEAH! Only one bug to present, stupid quest that's worth an achievement won't carry on. Talion A.D. is locked after the first step for me :( No older save to jump back to between my "Landing" and where I am now. Anyone who's that far knows why I don't want to go back further ;)

I fixed my game crashes by finally updating my AMD drivers to 11.8. Those still having crashes may want to do the same. Loving the game now.

definite robocop and blade runner refs throughout the game...lovin' the little easter eggs to be found, including an oldie but goodie.... the dopefish lives! :D

heh. if you listen closely in the police station you'll hear the intercom paging R. Deckard

Dunno if it is placebo or what, but diagonal walking(W+A or W+D) is faster than walking straight and just as fast as shift-sprinting.

You aren't imagining it. It is a control bug I believe. I don't know if it is as fast as sprinting, but it is faster for sure.

Check the eidos forums, they may be tracking it. If not, make sure they are. They seem somewhat responsive to people's complaints.

I keep getting crashing now that I am in an area of China. I had one crash before this, but now it crashes within 10 minutes!??!? I am perplexed. I'm running the latest WHQL nVidia drivers and SLI GTX-580s with all graphics maxed and VSYNC OFF. Anyone have any idea what I should do?

I love the game, but a bit disappointed in the AMD performance? Haven't seen any Crossfire data anywhere but, initially with 11.8 non-CAP#2 I got 30-40 FPS with my Tri-Fire, it sucked, plain and simple.

Last night I found the CAP 11.8 #2 and I get a pretty solid 60 FPS in EyeFinity 6056 x 1200, with all the advanced details on..........but my GPU utilization is only 55-65% across all three GPUs? I am very happy AMD fixed the FPS performance, but there looks like alot more available?

Pretty sad for a game sponsored by AMD.

I've been really enjoying it so far. There is so much to do and see, I've spent 17 hours so far and I still haven't left Detroit. If the other cities are this big it'll be a 50+ hr game for me. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty setting and going for the achievement where you can't kill anyone.

Graphics are serviceable, however my dual core cpu is starting to show its age. Might have to upgrade sometime this year.

I'm not up to 17 hours yet but maybe 5 hours in and I've just sauntered around Detroit, cleaned up a little gang problem in a nice loaded hideout area they had, visited my apartment, visited the limb clinic and just kind of taking care of sidequests and enjoying myself.

What a fantastic game this is. I'm trying like hell to not overplay it.

This game is full of cutscenes, really, I spent most of the time watching it than playing. But other than that its still a good game.

Not me.

Every cutscene I've scene advanced the story but I've far and away been doing mostly playing. Non spoiler: Where are you at? How far into it?

I've played for 7 hours and I'm not even out of the first city yet. I've seen maybe 4 cut scenes, which were at most 20-25 seconds long... are you doing side quests?

I'm not sure this qualifies as a "cut-scene", but everytime you do a lethal takedown on a guard, all you get is a third person animation....that gets old after a while.:D

Click an item in your inventory and press a number you want it to be.

Thanks, but wow, that's not intuitive at all. The UI for inventory management completely sucks. Not even any basic drag and drop FFS!

The shifting, fidgeting conversations are hilarious.

Also, jensens robot arms are disturbing to me.

It's actually satisfying for me, especially when I decide to go lethal. ;)

I'm not going to lie, the game looks console. It doesn't look bad, but ...

However, it also seems to be pretty damn fun.

You must be doing it wrong.

The drag and drop is a little sticky, but it works.

I wonder how soon a patch will be for the load times and everything else.

This is my only real complaint at the moment. The load times are really annoying. I should have very minimal load times on my rig if the game is coded properly

Just bought this based on what I've read here. I'm still running a Q6600 @ 3.6 with 8GB RAM and a 4890. It should push decent frame rates to my piddly little 20" 16:10 monitor.

Hopefully playing as a master-hacker isn't too impossible. :D

It is like DX1 in this regard, the length really depends on how you play. If you explore everywhere, read everything, talk to everyone and etc. game will take forever. Maybe even have fun doing some random stuff, I spent like 10 minutes just cleaning up the apartment by restacking the boxes. (liked stacking boxes in DX1 as well) :D

I definitely tried, and it definitely didn't work. I'll try again tonight I guess.

The problem might be you can drag from the inventory to the hot keys, but you can't drag from hot key to hot key.

I've put all my points into hacking and the one conversation one, and then trying to sneak around and not kill much. The only issue I have run into is I finally hit the first boss, and I don't have the skills or weapons to kill him, (no grenades or heavy weaps). There should be another way around them, but there isn't apparently...

Nope, there is probably some weapons to use in that room. I was all stealth but i kept a pistol incase i wanted to go lethal at some point.

The yellow(at least, if I remember right, they are yellow) tanks are poison gas.. and they'll hurt him a lot. A few emp grenades, an exploding barrel or two and the gas tanks should be more than enough to get the job done.

The drag and drop is a little sticky, but it works.

You can also just hover over an item in the inventory and press a number and it assigns it.

Find a blank space and do the same to clear it off

question:

has anyone figured out if accepting the information from the black female bum CI in Detroit triggers anything to happen? Or could one game the system by paying for information, then loading?

I feel cheap for even considering it, but I was stoked when i first started talking to her, knowing that "a detective is only as good as his CI's", but when this bum wanted to charge me 2000 credits for a piece of information... way too steep considering the cash amounts you're picking up off people who have jobs at SI or are mercenaries. This chick is a bum digging through a trash can. She should give up info for so much less.

I ran into the same issue, I was finally able to take him down using the items found around the level. Look around for things you can throw at him.

Yeah, same here. I'm playing on Deus Ex skill and put two rockets in his face then emptied my entire load of 10mm (my pistol is really upgraded too) and he choked me and threw a bunch of nades on me and I died. After that happening about 15 times I said, "Fuck it" and put it on easy, put two rockets in his face again and shot him a few times and he died and I enjoyed the game about a hundred times more.

Stupid powerful bosses that make zero sense mechanics-wise don't have a place in this game IMO. I mean, two rockets can't kill him but 2 or 3 grenades blows him up in the cutscene? WTF?

I actually like the graphics because the dated engine seems to have forced the devs to focus on atmosphere and art rather than flashy post processing effects. Overall I feel like the game is very easy on they eyes, especially the tesselation smoothing everything out.

Yeah, I was trying to rearrange the hot bar to my liking. It also doesn't seem like I can drag and drop items in the inventory to rearrange it, instead I have to click on an item and then select "Move." Could be done a lot better IMHO.

Does David Sarif's voice bother anyone else? I dunno, I just find his voice annoying, personally. I get this "bad guy" vibe from him.

People were comparing this game to other franchises, know what it reminds me of? The anime: Ghost in the Shell. It has a lot of the same concepts, cybernetic implants, the in-head communication bit, police investigations on crime and corruption, the whole 'is a person still human' bit, human purists, a whole "ghost in the shell" kind of thing, the music has that kind of atmosphere too. Which is really cool, cause I love that anime. This game reminds me of that in a big way.

Definitely Ghost in the Shell with a bit of the original Appleseed mixed in.
never thought of it that way, but it's a good comparison.

not as much as some of the other voices, including Jensen's, unfortunately. I'm guessing Sarif is a bad guy.

holy shit I just completed a side quest in a dude's boobytrapped apartment. blew me to bits and scared me to death. I play with the volume up pretty high for added atmosphere so the explosion was intense. I'm still jumpy :)

Small patch just released on steam. Reduced load times...let's see how well it works.

This latest patch addresses:

A frequent issue for AMD/ATI hardware users that can cause the game to crash on startup.

Improvements to loading speed. The speed increase depends on machine spec and settings, but loading time improvements of over 50% have been measured on some machines.

Some control fixes:

Diagonal movement is no longer faster as intended.

Adjustments have been made to mouse sensitivity in response to user feedback.

Mouse sensitivity for X and Y axis can still be configured separately, but is now consistent when set to default settings.

The range of settings for mouse sensitivity has been adjusted to provide for more accurate adjusting.

The default mouse sensitivity has been altered to be somewhat less sensitive.
