Starcraft II

It is so funny when you rush 4 Gating protoss. They are such sore losers about it too....

Oh man, FruitDealer and MKP both knocked out of the Ro32 too! The Up/down matches will be one hell of a show.

Ultras are great for trolling late-game. Give your losing opponent the idea that you're not up to anything for a while.

Then bam, ultras.

Anyone interest in getting a friendly FFA going tonight? All skill levels welcome (as I suck and I know some of you are quite good)...

Once again, MC continues to dominate. Unfortunately, Jinro couldn't beat HongUnPrime to advance. :( July and Nada won their games pretty damn convincingly.

We can start anytime this evening. I'm free between 5:30-9:00 Central (or so).

Anyone else?

^^ that'd be sweet. i'd be down for some matches with some people who are not too good :) I'm the only person i know who bought SC2

I definitely qualify as the "not too good" sort.

I've already got northrop on my friend's list, what's your handle chocko?

I might be on this evening for some Starcraft, though I tend to shy away from FFA in general because it removes all planning and real strategy from the game. If everybody on the map happens to throw units at you consecutively you lose and there's jack all you can do about it. Sort of kills the fun.

True, but this is a "for fun" game and I doubt there's going to be a lot of team strategy/bullying. I plan on attacking whoever I see first essentially, and if I lose, who cares.

Heck, if we get enough people we should pull a "day9" and limit everyone to one type of unit all game :p

*Edit* Lets plan on meeting up around 6:00-6:15 Central this evening. All are welcome. Add my handle (in sig) and send me a message if you want to join in!

BTW, I shoulda stayed on longer last night northrop, my wife got home a few mins after you got off and ended up practicing some calligraphy, so I kept playing.

Played my first non-intro league 1v1 last night...after my opponent's first push failed he said GG. I decided for my first game to rush to DT's and he had no obs, but there was no reason at all for him to give up that early.

^i'm sure we'll get to play again sometime next week. that second game we played was awesome.

I've been constantly doing 3rax BOs. Works fairly well in team games.

I also throw in a few bunker proxies in a few games, just for fun.

Been literally grinding in SC2, trying to get into Masters in all random Team Leagues. Both fun and rage inducing.

After half a year, I realized my macro sucked. So I started to make sure I have full saturation and my win rate sky rocketed

^So true. My last game vs kabob I was on 4 bases with only 65 drones, and plenty of larva to spear. Now after watching the replay, I wish I had 10-15 drones more, but I guess another time.
Very, I <3 the base rush, glad I could keep hiding pylons!!
Yup, the hidden pylons is what kept you alive. Wish I could do that with zerg... just build random building all over the map like that, lol.

Actually, now that I think about it... I should get 2-3 spine crawlers, and just walk them to a corner of a map somewhere, and keep them hidden all game long, lol.

But then they would die. They need creep to survive. :D

Im having huge issues getting over the initial learning curve in this game.
Whats the best way of figuring out what counters what and getting effective at it?
Then what about what upgrades to purchase and when?

You can learn some important mechanical kind of bits from the game's challenge mode, but as far as timings on upgrades and production the only way to really learn is to just keep playing. The absolute best way is to get a couple of semi-dedicated practice partners. If you're having trouble with something, have them do it to you a few games in a row and give you pointers on what you need to change to fight it off.

The other thing that can help is some extra time spent watching replays of every game you lose. Watch what the other guy does and try to learn timings from it. Or even find replays from other players using your race of choice that win, and watch how they play the matchup you're having trouble with.

How the hell does Blizzard do matchmaking? I'm bronze league with a whopping 3-6 record and it puts me in an "evenly matched" game with a silver league guy who has over 600 games under his belt...

maybe he is on a loosing streak? :p

did you take him down, at least?

People micro in the silver league? shit I'm going to be in trouble when I start playing 1v1 again...

It just happens to be whatever the best matchup it can find at that particular time. Sometimes there just isn't anyone available to play at that exact moment that is more in your league. That said, bronze to silver is nothing.

I'm on a 3v3 Bronze team and I played 5 games yesterday. Guess who Blizzard decided was the best matchup? 3 of them were against teams of 3 Diamonds. 1 of them was 2 Diamonds and 1 MASTER LEAGUER.

WTF!!!

Really hate matching system. Diamond get team match with copper...really hate arrange team too. If 2 friends play 4v4, they get 2 random vs 4 arranged. Should be 2+2 random people vs 2+ random not 2 random vs 4 arranged.
Just played with dude in copper.
He went fast expension and went void. Took him 15 min to get first void.

^Sounds like a game I just played, only I was on the winning team. At about 10 minute mark I sent a changeling into an enemy base for a quick scout. In the first corner, an enemy zerg was just finishing his pool and was on 5 drones. The other zerg fast expanded, but didn't tech passed the pool either. Scouted about 15 drones between his two bases and 10 lings at the most. No queens either. We started looking at every other expo on the map and some possible late game proxy all in, but didn't find anything, so we just moved in with 5 VR's and some roaches. Probably the easiest 4v4 win yet.

That is quite slow and easy to defend as Zerg or Terran. Zerg you just get queens if your mutas are on the way, or you switch to Hydras and counter with a ling run by. Terran, Stimmed marines can take a void ray out easy.

DL'd the SC1 campaign but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Looks interesting though!
