The next NFS installment: Shift

NFS Porsche Unleashed > any other NFS

Good I'm not alone on my opinion. That game ruled.

As far as arcade style.. I really Liked NFS 4. After NFS4 and Porsche I stopped buying them. They just seemed like crap.

I hope this game is good, the series needs to be taken seriously again. It was dead to me since Hot Pursuit 2.

NFS Porsche Unleashed > any other NFS

NFS: SE was definitely the best. Every other iteration since hasn't been able to capture the full feeling of the original. NFS5 had good physics and good graphics for its time. However it lacked police presence except in Factory Driver which was silly because all they did was to try and cause you damage. NFSSE had cops that would arrest you. In addition NFSSE had a great variety of point to point and circuit tracks. The physics were decent and the car showcases by Road and Track were excellent.

As much as I loved NFS4 it really should have been NFS3SE. However all the user created cars and tracks really made NFS4 what it was.

i played the first NFS to death... when it was still ''road and track'' presents Need for speed. It was aweeeeeeeeeesome. I remember lapping the small oval track in the desert non stop with the supra.

Definitely not alone, I loved 3, 4 was good but did not enjoy it like 3. NFS5 was my favorite and played it like crazy, great lan party game.

I bought 6 but it was so horrible I traded it ASAP. Have not even bothered to look at any since. They need to go back to what made the series so fun.

Why can't simbin do rally?

WE NEED MORE RICHARD BURNS RALLY

Screw you guys, I'm going home.

Jesus those aren't screenshots, they're captures of a pre-rendered video scenes. Lousy. Does anyone know who made Most Wanted? It's really too bad they can't have that same studio make another. I just reinstalled the game and am having a blast with it. :D

I just reinstalled it too, and while it is fun, the driving doesn't feel realistic at all.

Anyone have this title running on their rig yet? I'll be picking it up tonight at the NHL '10 launch.

Wasn't NFS Most Wanted done w/ differant teams for the differant platforms? I liked it on the PC, but it was not as good as the older games, my favorite NFS game was Hot Pursuit.

I also really liked the Burnout series on the Xbox and 360 but with Paradise they took out the best part, crashing into everything, its so much more like Most Wanted than it is to Burnout Revenge, Burnout 3 and the others.

I seen the gameplay footage video for NFS: Shiftand was amazed at the graphics and I am wondering how there going to get it look that good on anything other then the PC.

EA Black Box.

Same group that did ProStreet, Carbon, Underground, and Underground 2.

It's not supposed to be realistic. Need For Speed is an arcade racing game franchise, not a simulator franchise.

Ugh.

As soon as you gain any speed, you can't turn (even a little bit) without losing traction.

You can still have an arcade racing game with realistic physics and handling.

In Shift? Do you have the game already? I thought it came out tomorrow?

Yes in Shift.

I got the chance to play it early at a retailer friends place. I played a single race and completely lost interest in the game.

Sounds like it's pretty realistic, which I guess you don't like.

Yeah, that sounds really good, in my opinion.

I'll have it installed on my PC tonight.

I like realistic. I drive.

If I begin turning a corner at 80, I don't immediately lose traction and have to constantly compensate back and forth. It happens even on small adjustments or long turns.

Were you using a steering wheel?

For those saying that they'll be getting it tonight, where will you be getting it at? I know it comes out tomorrow but I want to play tonight too! I might check the 24hr walmart by me.

I have a g25, and I found it more fun with a controller, haha.
I dont think grid is too settings friendly with wheels.
LFS is a dream with the g25 though. No other game can even come close to replicating realistic wheel physics like it does.

Game looks great. 35-60 FPS with my Q6600 rig @ 1920x1080, 8xAA. I'll likely tone down the AA to obtain a steady 60FPS tomorrow. It's a little late for me to be mucking around, but this settings page for online racing says enough for me.

Private racing FTW.

thats with AA at 8x though. i called my 24hr walmart earlier today and asked if they would sell me a copy at midnight. dude said yeah but they only got in 4 copies for PC and that they were already in the back. come midnight i get there and ask the guy at the electronics counter for it and he starts digging through this box full of newly released games. of course the supposed 4 copies of NFS:S arent there  oh well, ill grab it when i head out in the morning.

That sounds like GTR2 lol... if you are 1km/hr more than the max speed for a corner you instantly loose the rear and it's impossible to catch it.

I hope it's a little less harsh in Shift. I guess I'll find out when they release the Demo (their forums say end of september)

I wonder if the PC version looks significantly better than the console versions.

What's a good steering wheel/pedal set that'll work on Pc, 360, and PS3, since Ill be picking up and Dirt 2 once it comes out.

I think one of Fanatec's wheels are compatible with all 3 platforms but not even the G25 or G27 is also compatible with the 360 afaik. This is the one, although it's wireless which is kinda iffy. Any peripheral in general is hard to come across that works on all 3 thanks to the proprietary 360.

ok guys...To answer a few questions,

Yes the pc has some higher res stuff than the console versions.

Also, dont freak out on the ATI frame rates, they are abnormally low compared to Nvidia, AMD acknowledges it and are now working on updated drivers for better support of the game.

Im a retarded wealth of knowledge today, dont mistake it for wisdom though.

Just got it and played a couple of tracks. My first impression: This is not your grandpa's Need For Speed. It looks super-clean and the driving feels very precise.

I enjoyed NFS 2, 3, and 4 the most. Im buying this in a couple hours but hopefully Ill love it (I loved grid).

My hopes of user made cars will never happen as complex as all the dash\cars are.

Driving around nfs4 in a batmobile racing a star wars bike can bever be duplicated hahaha.

Holy crap that looks awesome! I have to wait until friday to pick it up though... i'm broke as hell.
