Everex XT5000T Support thread

i can't get it to work. anyone?

The flasher program they give you needs be used in DOS, which is kinda dumb since it's really tough to boot to DOS in Vista, and without a floppy drive.

I used the Windows flasher program that comes with the Amilo BIOSs, and I had no problems.

http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/support/downloads.html

Select 1526 and look for the BIOS updates. Unpack the archive, replace their BIOS with the one from Everex, and run Winplash.

BTW, the new BIOS is version 1.1D. And I didn't see any new features in the BIOS settings, so it may just be the memory fix listed.

haha i just did that :D

So, all this wait for a BIOS update, and we only got 4GB RAM? Weak as baby fart.

I am interested in undervolting. What are you guys using? Just remember I'm running Fedora 7 not windows.

I updated today. I just moved onto a bootable thumb drive that I have with a Win98 rescue disk on it and it worked beautifully. I agree though we need more out of the bios than just the memory fix.

Just to be fair, even thought the Amilo BIOS is up to 1.1M, if you download the info file and look at the BIOS revisions there really isn't much for each revision. It's not like they got RAID functionality or any new features, mostly just bug fixes and minor updates, nothing worth risking your lappy for.

Just remember, that's for 64-bit OSs ONLY. You still won't get 4 GB in the pre-installed Vista or 32-bit XP.

I only run 64-bit OS's now days. I run 64-bit Fedora 7, Ubuntu x86_64 on the desktop (8G ram), etc.

There really is no reason not to go 64-bit in the unix'ish world :)

Hi,

no needed update bios for me just yet.

who need 4GB and 64Bit Os ??? (still expensive upgrades $$$)

Amilo Xa 1526 - 2GB max, have bluetooth built-in

(B34ST1Y) read data sheet PDF for amilo, you can edit bios yourself.

I somehow understood what you just said, despite the painful grammar usage. @.@

so....is there anyway, (now that we have our hands on a bios file to compare to the AMILA bios) to edit it ?

I thought our current BIOS was 1.1E... does this mean the "memory fix' was to just actually host the previous (1.1D) BIOS on their site?!?!

After some more checking... it looks like our last BIOS was 1.1E and the new one is C.1C-4406-8A20. I'm not sure where you saw it say 1.1D?

-Thanks

ive been thinking of getting a new laptop and this seems to be a great value. i just want to know: how well does counter strike play on these? im not a big mobile gamer, but you need the essentials;)

40-150fps on max settings. :D

----------

can someone PLEASE give me a little more aide with this bios flashing....I can't seem to get it working. I tried the Amila bios flasher...but I guess I just suck at life.....

well I'm not exactly running system specs but I just got done playing hl2 Deathmatch for a few hours and it ran great.
--------
I am thinking of modifying the keyboard to make the "enter" and the "\" one button. anyone else tried this yet?

The Amilo BIOS updater comes with a command line utility called BIOSVER.EXE. If you run it it creates a text file called BV, that when opened tells you what version the BIOS is. After flashing it says the version is 1.1D.

EDIT: where did you see the original BIOS coming up 1.1E? Cause I opened up the backup BIOS file and the version listed inside is 1.1A.

I've been searching long and hard for a good laptop deal, and I've come across two sub 800 dollar laptops that suit my needs for college.

The XT5000t, which this entire thread is dedicated to, and the Dell Vostro 1500 configured with an 8600m GT gpu.

In regards to spec, Dell has a few small advantages, including the better cpu and gpu. However, it lacks the 17 inch monitor that I am most comfortable with.

Weight is not an issue.

Does the XT5000t have any more outstanding traits that I should consider? I am leaning slightly towards the Everex but I need to know just a tad more about what it has over Dell. Please help me - I want to order it soon with peace of mind!

Thanks,
krenzel

Use a utility called SharpKeys2. It will allow you to remap the buttons on the keyboard, you can make the \ key next to the Enter key into another Enter key.

Just so you know, the two other \ keys on the third row (next to the Z and up arrow) cannot be mapped independently of each other. The third \ next to the Enter key can.

Well three things I can think of off hand. The larger case accepts two SATA II hard drives, there is a number pad and there is a subwoofer. Although it won't blast you out the audio for a laptop is nice. Also you most likely are going to go with a USB keyboard for games so that may negate the number pad.

Oh one last thing, no dell bloatware...........

Here is what I seem to have

Anyone have pics of one of these laptops disassembled?
I really want to see the guts and check upgradability.

Still have yet to decide if this will be the one laptop I buy.

Wondering why the differences between the to drives as they are both identical. I see yours are the 160 gb versions.

OS is XP Pro. 2 120gb 7200.2

1st) one is Quick bench 8mb zone with 1.5 jumper in place.

2nd) one is Long bench 32mb zone with 1.5 jumper in place.

3rd) one is Quick bench 8mb zone with 3.0 jumper in place(ie no jumper).

4th) one is Long bench 32mb zone with 3.0 jumper in place(ie no jumper)

There was some in the earlier threads but I believe the links are now dead.

Hi,
Both have the jumpers off. I had got the c:\ drive to display higher before but I attribute the differences to vista. The readings tend to be all over the place, especially with the primary drive.

I probably would have been better off right after install benching these but I didn't. So I just took what would be an average for the c:\ & d:\ drive. Drive 2 is one partition only with the page file there. so it benched consistently.............

The Core 2 Duo and 8600GT are no "small advantages". The Vostro will blow away the Everex in terms of raw speed. In addition, if you get the Everex be prepared to deal with thermal issues and horrible support. The monitor is definitely nice though. It's not worth the performance/quality hit you get when going with Everex IMO since external screens are so cheap.

Well, I'll be honest. If the Vostros were around when I bought my Everex, I probably would have gone with the 1700. It would have been about $100 more than what I paid for the XT5000T, but the performance difference is well worth it.

And though I'm certainly NOT a Dell fan, the Everex does have enough quirks to warrant consideration of other comparable products. At the time I bought mine a few months ago, the only comparable laptops were twice the price.

Hi

New bios out second time at Everex website.

Update enables BIOS RAID feature. Revision D.1C xt5000t_d1c.zip

The text for the bios is not clickable. Also just changing the property of the original file name of the updated bios does not get it. The drivers there are not getable either as no link there, what a tease..........

Those who have the original vista install also have power2go on the drive. you can create a freedos bootable image and add the bios files. this will put the bios on the x:\ drive for you to dothe bios update........

This is great news that they are planning to add the RAID bios soon. Anyway, about the Vostro 1500, there have been a lot of complaints about the screen quality (graininess) on the Inspiron 1520 and other problems with the headphone port having interference. Also the fact that the 8600M GT has GDDR2 memory and it slightly under clocked compared to the one in other laptops. It's pretty likely that the Vostro 1500 will have these problems as well because it's pretty much a black version of the Inspiron 1520.

Sorry guys, I hope Everex will put it up soon which I think they are working on second bios anytime soon.

check at website from time to time, you will pleased get your raid working soon.
