I do professional wiring for a living.

well I did professional wiring for a living...as of christmas Im the SysAdmin for the whole company (small-med size business)

best way to learn is to do, get a bunch of patch cords and a small rack and some cable management /velcro and go to town. or you can go with neatpatch and have the bicsi look without the small fortune it costs for bicsi certification.

Looks like me and you are totally in love with the neatpatch stuff. Totally brought my rack to life and the managment cannot be easier.

Im the network admin at my company and we do the whole velcro garbage, soon enough we will be implementing the netpatch stuff. All you gotta do is show the boss a pic of your rack with the neatpatch installed and you're golden.hhaha

That Desk looks so lonely :(. How can u get that desk and only put one computer on it, Blasphemy!
Or add 2 more monitors on the sides to give tri veiw :)

You mean like this

IMG_0019.jpg

:)

Not a very busy desk, network doodads are on the other side of the room along with my few server humming away.

And yes, I have a green dvd/rw drive.

Upgraded a my servers and added a new (1u) as my proxy/firewall. Also color-coded my wires (blue = LAN servers, white = clients, yellow = DMZ :) ) and got some wire loom for organization.

Now all that's left is to get a small shelf to sit the flatpanel on...

versello are those dell servers and what models?

They're custom built. OEM servers aren't really compatible with my rack unless I buy expensive conversion brackets.

Im not a fan of wirelooms either.

I finally felt like running my cat 2900 all the time.

And here is my mini-farm that is running in my room.

IMG_0149.JPG

About as neat and organized as its going to get up here, going to move back downstairs once I get some more cat-5e.

nice input.... care to elaborate?

It makes it hard to trace wires... I suppose that isnt much of an issue given that you only have 8 or so lines but imagine, 50... 200 or even 500+ connections and instead of going straight to switches you are running patch panels from differant areas and conjoining everything at the switches... it would be a nightmare... It is also worthy to note that the loom makes the grouping of cables even less flexible for tucking away and more bulky.

I am a fan of Neat Patch, greatness! :)

^ Ehhehe! Found from coloradocollege.edu.
When i was working for UNL we had a computer come in that had been running in our feed mill. opened up the case and i think there was about an inch of dirt/cord/oats/other feed stuff in there. They just needed an acrylic case and i think it woulda grown in there :D

uu tee eff guys, I remember when this thread was insane with the amount of pictures people were posting. Ill contribute a quick pic of my uncles NOC(too bad I don't have one this nice at work :( ).

Marc_NOC.jpg

and yes, that's me sitting at the desk.

Im eventually going to have to have a NOC monitoring area like that in my house when I start working from home.

On a side note: Im in the process of putting together a second rack(relay) for all of my networking gear and some new stuff I got, the cabinet that I have will house 10 or so servers and my new KVM. Ill keep you guys updated.

PS... start posting more damn pics :p

that is f-ing awesome!

NOC = Network Operations Center?

Isn't it near impossible to read the top 2 rows of monitors?

It's either the top row is off or more than likely it's the flash of the camera that is obscuring it,I'm sure he can see what he needs to see quite well.

yeah, NOC = Network Ops Center.

and it's not hard at all to read the monitors, even thought they are only 15in. The top row is not on at all, the machine that was running it shit the bed. :(

Well felt like moving the core downstairs... not enough room and too noisy in my room..

farm01.jpg

Still need to organize wires and put in a patch panel

Yea it know its pretty bad.. I just havent gone around cleaning down there.. gotta get to that this month..

:)

GigE switch that runs all the ports in the house:

My ipcop:

My homerun for cable, phone, security and network:

Total cost was around $250 or so. Ran the cable and Ethernet (Cat6) myself, since my parents custom-built home, so the cost was in the cableing, and $100 for the switch from CDW. Very fast transfer rates now :)

File Server
about 200gb of storage

BEFSR41 and Comcast modem

Switch that connects the whole network(Game machine, lan machine, brothers machine, fileserver, and a wire that goes to the back tv area)

Will be moving servers back to this rack

My home network is boring, so I'll post my office.

This room is solely for disaster recovery systems for our bank. Our primary NOC is much prettier with wall to wall windows on one side mounted with 4x42" LCDs for "monitoring purposes" (read: showing off).

It's so loud I had to start bringing my Nano into work with the Spark plug earbuds so I could concentrate.

PS.. that's a 5 terabyte Hitachi NAS sitting behind my desk, just recently installed.

So where's the pic's of the NAS and the Primary NOC?

I have one pic of the NAS.. but it's nothing special, just the front of unit can't see any drives. Our primary NOC is located in The Woodlands near Houston, I work in the DR room which is located just outside of Fort Worth.

Could u post pics of the primary NOC, or are u not allowed to do that

I highly doubt it, but even if I were allowed, like I said the primary NOC is located 5 hours from my office, I've only been down there once for a training session and I'm not sure the next time I'll be down there.

It's quite a nice setup, though.

I'll have the DR room looking very nice eventually, right now it's difficult with all the telco coming in and out and things being shipped in (boxes everywhere  ).

To start off the tour, I present my network diagram.
Home_Network.png

The picture tour starts downstairs in the dining room. I moved here 3 months ago, and have yet ot purchase a good computer desk for it. I have a small one in mind at IKEA, but it won't fit in the car :D I only use the computer for burning and porn storage at the moment.
Pictured here is our Panasonic portable phone (kicks a lot of ass), zap.alt169.com, DSL modem, router, network printer, and battery backup.
ezekial_network1.jpg

Sppedstream 5100 DSL Modem from SBC. Now on Verizon.
Verizon gave me a Westel and I may try it out more in the future. However, it was doing NAT and I couldn't figure out how to disable it. So I said, F it, and moved to my old trusty Speedstream I had used for a year previously.
ezekial_network2.jpg

Netgear FM114P. Very solid router, and has served me well for 3 years now. I had to replace it under warranty about 2 years ago, and I think the original one always had problems cause this one is more stable.
ezekial_network3.jpg

Staples close out Konica printer, connected to router, served through my server, and connected through login script to clients.
ezekial_network4.jpg

Moving upstairs to my computer room we find the server root.alt169.com and my main workstation of felch.alt169.com connected to this switch. Yes, I have a lot of empty ports, and I used to have over half filled during my college years. Now it's just overkill.
ezekial_network5.jpg

root.alt169.com
ezekial_network6.jpg

root & felch
I used to have matching 21in trintrons but I sold one before moving to help persuade me to get LCDs when I could. I then picked up a free 19in trinitron from work. It's nice to be back to duals.
ezekial_network7.jpg

battery backup connecting all the equipment up here.
ezekial_network8.jpg

This summer root, and some networking equipment will be moving to the basement to keep the heat & noise out of the house. At that time I will reorganize the wires and so forth.
