What is the cheapest available CPU I can slap in a AM4 socket? Building a gaming PC for my brother

I think the best bang for the buck is the Ryzen 1600 and motherboard combo from Micro Center. A combo can be had for under $150 out the door and you can always upgrade the processor later to like a R5 2600 or R7 2700 processor. I assume they'll drop in price too when the new AMB processors...

    Storage Management

I just read up on on the the Hybrid drives. With the Seagate Firecuda 2Tb drives for $100 at Microcenter. It seems like a good compromise. Install the 128gb m.2 for Win10 and Office 2016 and any other non-gaming software on it and install his Steam games and other games on the Hybrid hard...

    Storage Management

What's the best way to configure a system with the various storage devices out there? I have at my disposal: m.2 128gb, 240gb SSD, 480gb SSD, 2Tb 7200rpm hard drive. I was for a long time building my systems trying to use a 120gb SSD as my boot drive and load all of my software onto that SSD...

i5 6600k vs Ryzen 1600x for my son's gaming system

I found a good deal with the i5-8600k (with free Razer Ornata keyboard) and an ASrock Z370 Killer SLI motherboard for $360. That was $90-$100 more than my Ryzen 1600X or 1600 cpu/mobo combos. He can judge which one he likes better between the 2-3 systems and always switch systems. I'm trying to...

i5 6600k vs Ryzen 1600x for my son's gaming system

I've finally realized that it's time to get my son a new gaming PC built. He has a system with a FX 8350 cpu, 990 mobo with 16gb DDR3 and a GTX 1060 6 gb CPU. He does jump all over the gaming arena on the games he plays. But, mostly it's mmorpg games. I have on hand: i5 6600k (overclocked)...

    BCLK vs Multiplier Overclocking

The MSI Z170M Mortar and the Supermicro boards both allow BCLK overclocking thru the bios I've found. My question is.... Isn't overclocking via multiplier easier and "safer/more reliable" of a system? Or is this a misconception I have? I like the idea of a mATX board for the system I want to...

    i7-6700K $259 At Microcenter !

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I'd be willing to purchase any of the cpus from Microcenter and ship it to for the cost of the cpu plus 7.5%(sales tax)

    BCLK vs Multiplier Overclocking

I currently have an i5-6500. With the price drops on the skylakes, I was looking at upgrading to an i5 or i7 K version. The motherboards I was looking at were: http://www.microcenter.com/product/455508/Z170M_Mortar_LGA_1151_mATX_Intel_Gaming_Motherboard or...
