the problem is fixed. the latest bios is at fault. i don't know exactly what it is and no one has posted a problem with it, but when i flashed the bios to the previous version, everything was fine. my system is the sg33g5 and the 117 bios was a fault. 115 works fine, in case anyone wants to know.

i second getdataback. it'll cost you $80 though to recover your files though. like most recovery software out there, the trial lets you see the files you can recover, but you have to register and pay to actually be able to copy and extract the files. gl.
