I picked up this mobo [MSI 760GM-P23(FX)] for an office machine build and noticed it said it was AM3+ ready and compatible with the new FX series B2 stepping processors as well as Phenom II X6 and X4 cpu's. I also found a Phenom II X6 1090T at my local CompUSA (long odds to be sure!) for $169.99...

One question - why is this in the AMD section???:confused:

AMD is painting themselves into a corner by discontinuing the Thubans IMO. There is still money to be made on them. Glad I got my 945 and 1090T when I did.

Why not check Compaq's website? They should have all the info you need. If not, chat with one of their tech people online or give them a call.

My skt 754 3400+ Venice did 31.89 in Superpi 1M. How does that stack up?

You can push the Newark on up a good bit. I built a system for my brother with that cpu and we have it at 2.8 ghz without breaking a sweat. They'll go to 3 ghz from what I have heard and seen.

Too bad it finally died. My skt 754 system with an Asus K8V mobo and 3200+ Venice cpu is still going strong along with my other skt 754 systems. All of them are running ATI video cards (one has an X1550 soon to be replaced, an X1650 Pro and a couple of X800XL's). I've also got a 95w Phenom II...

I just bought a 1090T last week simply because the price was right. I was going to wait for BD but decided not to. Glad I did now. I'll be building the system in the next few days.
