Whatever you decide on, pair it with a SATA III motherboard, a SATA III solid state hard drive (SSD) together with a SATA II or III high capacity hard drive (1TB or larger) and you'll have more performance than you can shake a stick at. I put an OCZ 256 gb Vertex 3 SSD in my system with a 1090T...
That is what I thought. The Athlon II X4 will be going in as soon as it gets here and set for stock speed. 3.1 ghz will be more than enough for my situation. Thanks
I picked up this mobo [MSI 760GM-P23(FX)] for an office machine build and noticed it said it was AM3+ ready and compatible with the new FX series B2 stepping processors as well as Phenom II X6 and X4 cpu's. I also found a Phenom II X6 1090T at my local CompUSA (long odds to be sure!) for $169.99...
I might be tempted to try the quad 960T Zosma, too, since it is a BE and seems to unlock to 6 cores succesfully. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103995
For $124.99 it might be worth trying and should clock up decently.
I was lucky. I was in the market for a new AMD...
Or their skt 754 3400+ Venices clocked at 2.6 to 2.7. I have 3 of them and they still do office work for me just fine...
Granted, I do have a Phenom II 945 and a 1090T but for a good bit of my business needs the skt 754 Venices are the backbone machines. Gotta love it that a 6 yr. old setup is...
You can find reasonably priced Skt 939 X2 cpu's at Starmicro.net. Look at the bottom of this page http://www.starmicroinc.net/category/9020/Athlon-Socket-939-/2.html and the next page after that. $45.00 for a 3800 X2 isn't all that bad and faster ones can be had for a bit more if you want to...
AMD is painting themselves into a corner by discontinuing the Thubans IMO. There is still money to be made on them. Glad I got my 945 and 1090T when I did.
You can push the Newark on up a good bit. I built a system for my brother with that cpu and we have it at 2.8 ghz without breaking a sweat. They'll go to 3 ghz from what I have heard and seen.
Too bad it finally died. My skt 754 system with an Asus K8V mobo and 3200+ Venice cpu is still going strong along with my other skt 754 systems. All of them are running ATI video cards (one has an X1550 soon to be replaced, an X1650 Pro and a couple of X800XL's). I've also got a 95w Phenom II...
I just bought a 1090T last week simply because the price was right. I was going to wait for BD but decided not to. Glad I did now. I'll be building the system in the next few days.
All I can say right now is that I'm glad I went ahead and pulled the trigger for a PhII 1090T last week. For all the hype and buildup Bulldozer seems quite anti-climactic.
I believe the date for launch is mentioned at the end of the 1st paragraph in the link you posted:
"These are not the usual engineering samples we are talking about here (those are ticking at 1.8 and 2.6GHz), but samples of actual products that are going to be launched on June 7, 2011 in...
BTW - you do know also that one of AMD's employees (JF-AMD) reads posts and leaves posts himself on this forum don't you? Even though he works in another division he might well have alerted the tech folks about this very thread and maybe they were even monitoring it. DUH! Just by posting here in...
So who is the real d**k? The vendor who is merely enforcing their warranty or the one who is trying to defraud the vendor? I guess you just don't get it do you? As has been pointed out time and time again the cpu was used and abused and blew up on you. In both cases AMD is justified in enforcing...
TBH it's worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. If it isn't worth $200 to you then it isn't worth the $200 asking price to you. Now, if you have one and are trying to sell it you can ask whatever you want to ask and see if it sells.
The Newark in my brother's machine is running at 2.8 with just a modest voltage bump. He needs that machine to be reliable so keeping it stable is the main goal. I've heard a few people say they've gotten 3.0 ghz or better out of the 4000+ Newarks but as always, "you're mileage may vary."
I'll be interested in seeing your mod. The Abit NV8 allows voltages up to 1.7v. Next after that is 1.85v and while I am crazy, I'm not stupid... :)
You are absolutely correct, 1.55v is useless for benching - especially for Palermo Semprons and Venice A64's. I have to use 1.7v to get max oc's...
Yeah - Ive done that. I can't get a decent oc like this because the bios won't allow an overvolt beyond 1.3v. Anything over 1.3v and it fails to boot. It's very annoying.
Opty - I feel that way towards Gigabyte's NF4 boards. I originally had an Asus K8N4E Deluxe NF4 board but it the bios would...
While my Abit NV8 with the NF4 4X chiposet will run Turions somewhat acceptably it won't accept the Mobile 4000+. It won't properly recognize the Turion or the Mobile 4000 - it calls them Opterons. And yeah, I have the latest bios update flashed in. Now my brother's MSI with NF4 4X chipset does...
Wow - that's a killer price! Great link!
Opty - That's a killer oc! I've never had a problem with 2 sticks on skt 754. All my oc's have been with 2 sticks of Crucial Ballistix DDR400. At the time I got it I actually had some OCZ on order with ZZF. They kept delaying the shipment so I told them...
Nuthin' wrong with that - go for it.
And if any of you guys are looking for older video cards check out Retekdirect.com. Lots of good cards there. I got my X800XL for less than $30 some time ago. Running it in my PII X4 945 system and it performs great for what I need. And also, starmicro...
Yeah, my old 3400+ Clawhammer went into our youth group's system. It's still getting the job done.
I will say my PII X4 945 is faster in most apps, especially ripping and burning music (like between 2 and 3 times faster) but my old Skt 754 systems still have their uses. I've always had a soft...
Just recently I picked up a pair of S754 3200+ Venice cpu's for cheap just to bench and play around with. I dragged out my old Abit NV8 mobo, Crucial Ballistix DDR400 ram and an X800Pro PCI-e card along with a spare case and my old Enermax 420W psu, slapped it together and got to oc'ing. The...

nforce4 4x was (and still is) always good to me on socket 754, particularly my Abit NV8. It is a great overclocking board with the skt 754 Venice cpu's (3000+, 3200+, 3400+). I just built a system with that board since I had all the parts laying around and popped in a couple of 3200+ Venice...
