I'm updating my HTPC, an Asus p5Q-pro that runs Vista, will be running WIN7.
I currently have 4x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint drives in there. I occasionally run out of space (usually temporarily on Sundays), so I figured I'd install a new drive for the OS.
I'm considering 2 options: A Hitachi...
I have the Xigmatek in an Antec P182 case with a Q6600 on a P5Q Pro mobo. I have it mounted so the fan blows out (through the heatsink) the top of the P182. I have the voltage set to 1.265 and run at 3Ghz. I idle at 28-30 and the top temperature I've seen is 47 during prime 95 (only ran for...
Why would 1080P look better than 1080i if you're playing it at 1080i?
Are many blu-ray movies actually using the increased bitrate? HDTV standard is up 20mbit, while Blu-Ray is up to 40mbit, but I'm not sure what the usage is.
I recently did a mid to upper range build with good components. I spent about the same as you, but I had more recycled parts. For reference here's what I got:
3x1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD - $270
Asus P45Q Pro w/2GB Ram (need to upgrade) - $80
Antec p180 & 650 Truepower Trio -$150
Intel...
I only have a 1080i TV, but I got hooked on Blu-Ray recently (there goes all my money. Now I need 10 1TB HD's).
I would have told you that the difference was minimal a few weeks ago, but now I'd tell you it's significant, even at only 1080i. At 1080p it's no contest.
I've even noticed that...

Ok, I always considered myself a very adept computer user. I've built about 6 computers and never had any problems at all. About a year ago I built an HTPC and loved it. It worked fine for about 8 months, but around September I began having problems. I've done everything I could but I can't...
I have to RMA my MOBO and need to remove the cpu. I will be putting it back in the replacement MOBO so I don't need to remove the CPU cooler unless I have to. The cooler is a Zalman 7000B. What is the proper method of doing this so I don't bend the pins?
When I installed the cpu cooler my cpu...
I had to mod an Antec Oveture to fit an Enermax 535W PSU that it clearly wasn't designed for. It works fine, except for a bit of wiring mess. Only problem is there was no way I could get the screw holes in the overture case to line up with the holes on the PSU.
With the way the PSU is stuck...
Sounds like you may have a bad PSU. Try testing it out.
I have the Antec Rev 1. It's quiet as can be, but it has a lower power PSU in it. it's also hot as a microwave.
After a multitude of problems, including a fried vidcard, a cpu with broken pins and a dead Northbridge fan I got a new cpu, a new vidcard and put some generic passive cooler on the NB.
The vidcard was fixed, but after a few second in Windows I get a BSOD saying "an attempt was made to...
I knew I should have looked into it more before ordering a new processor.
Think it'd be worth my time to pay $30 to repair and then ebay it? I doubt I'd get much for $200 repaired CPU.
Too bad I can't just buy a dual-cpu socket 939 board.
Not sure what I'm doing with the CPU. Interested in it?
I bought OEM this time around. I'll also remember to be much more careful with removing the heat sink next time.
