Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Not one of the run backs in this game is long at all

You're right. They're not bad in this game but still unnecessary. If you give me an option to spawn at the boss door vs. spawn at a shrine I'm choosing the boss door every time. Especially if the runback involves ladders or elevators.

You already get punished for losing to a boss by getting an unskippable "you died" screen followed by a loading screen. Not to mention dropping your souls.

There's no reason to add to the suffering by throwing in a runback. It's just unnecessary tedium, especially when frustrations are running high due to a boss kicking your ass over and over again.

Anyway... The patch is really nice. The quicker get-up speed is a huge quality of life improvement.

I beat the tiger boss and Bo Sorcerer. I'm exploring the rest of avian marsh now then going to ferry overlook as you suggested.

I also noticed that you can no longer kill these dudes:

Did you summon for Bo Sorcerer? I've read conflicting information, some say you need to, others that say you don't, but make sure to go the graveyard area in Avian Marsh after taking out Bo Sorcerer, hopefully you've got an NPC there. The run back to the graveyard for the fight that eventually occurs is the only one that annoyed me, and it wasn't really all that bad.

Also, weird you can't kill those guys anymore. I killed everything I could lock onto, cowering or not.

I beat the game for the third time last week and got the bad ending every. damn. time. I'll just have to look the shit up for the next one. Still need to try spears and axes anyway.

I'm getting crashes in the area at just at Commander Hooligan got about 5 crashes in a row. I might roll back to the previous drivers I didn't have one crash before this area but I updated my drivers yesterday and 1.5 I rolled back Nvidia drivers keep getting crashes I'm pretty sure it's 1.5 related other people on Steam have the same problem. I even got a Blue Screen of Death I'm done with the game until it gets fixed no way can I even play the game.

I didn't summon. Are you referring to the tomb area? If so, the NPC was there. No boss fight yet though.

Someone on Steam mentioned launching the game out of the Geforce App that worked no crashes all.

That confirms it then I’d say. As long as he was there after Bo Sorcerer you should be good on his quest. Once you reach Bo Capitol go back to the graveyard.

In addition to no longer being able to kill certain enemy types, apparently some bosses can't be killed anymore either.

Quote from reddit:

Basically any imperial Chinese figure is no longer "allowed to die" including basic soldiers in chapter 4. Several bosses no longer die and are sometimes just reframed as "sparring" instead of a life or death fight that fits the narrative. It also heavily changes some of the endings for characters that completely ruin entire themes of the game's story as it was told previously and the new themes don't even make sense to replace them.
Basically all for Chinese nationalism censorship and how their government wants their ancient history to be seen as an "infallible time of legends who never did anything wrong".

This is my GOTY for 2025 on level design alone . Just wish they took some care before releasing the last patch. Think I'll skip Ghost of Yotei since it's a 70.00 game no way can that game be as good as this.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers receives criticism after new ‘censorship’ patch prevents killing historical figures

The game received its version 1.5 patch earlier this week, which fixed numerous bugs and made some gameplay tweaks...however, players were somewhat confused by one patch note, which reads: “Made adjustments to animations, values, and level design for certain NPCs and AI. Added dialogs for some NPCs to complete some plots. We will further optimize the exhaustion animations in the future to improve the plot performance”

Players who downloaded the new update have found that the patch note refers to a crucial change in the game, which no longer makes it possible to kill certain bosses and other NPCs who are based on real-life historical figures...

I haven't started playing it yet, that sucks.

I downgraded to 1.4. Having a much better time now that I can mass murder these cowering NPCs.

Just fought monstrous toddler. What a cool fight! Epic music. Kind of felt bad killing the lil guy, he seemed innocent and he was just having a temper tantrum :(

I wasn't using magic the entire game until this fight I didn't even know how to use Magic since there wasn't a prompt on the screen the A button on the Xbox controller.
I got her to 1/20 of life bar after like the 40th try in a row and said I can't screw this up. If you never defeated her before don't even blink your eyes.

I'm not getting any crashes now I did a clean install of Nvidia drivers with DDU then I disabled Steam Overlay then Disabled Secure Boot no crashes for 3-4 hours.
It was either the Steam overlay giving me problems or Secure Boot in the Bios I enabled for BF6.

Just got to the 2 bosses in Cloudspire I guess I need to respec in order to defeat Ming he's really fast my Longsword is slow so Dual blades but I have to get them first in the same area.

I beat General MIng with long sword. Keep your distance, when he jumps, he will do three strikes. Just shimmer around him, until he finishes third strike, then backstab him. Run away after he recovers, rins and repeat.
Lady of the Night is the one that gave me fits, took two days to beat her.

Yep, if you sprint away from General Ming then you really only have to deal with his triple jump attack which is extremely easy to dodge and backstab.

Second phase is similar. Sprint away. Instead of a triple jump attack, he will now do a triple spinning sword attack. Again, super easy to dodge and backstab.

He's not a well designed boss.

Played this for a few minutes. Got to first intro dream boss. Spent 5 mins and yeah not for me. Uninstalled.

It's a homage to Souls games, where you face (and intentionally most get likely killed by) a late game boss during the introduction level. It's intended. The level design in this game is arguably some of the best by a non-from software studio.

I forgot that he was the dream boss :) I got back to him at around level 70 and summoned help. That way he was easy. :)

It was at least possible to defeat the Phalanx Demon in Demon's Souls, and you got a slightly different intro if you did.

So you guys are saying there is a chance?
For you? With how much you hate Souls games I highly doubt it. If you can beat Honglan though you can probably beat the game, and she comes pretty early, but not within the 2 hour Steam refund window.

I only did one run of Demon's Souls and definitely didn't beat the Phalanx Demon the first time, nor did I ever beat the Revenant in ER in any NG cycle, NG+ np of course.

Phalanx Demon is pretty easy to dodge. If you can get behind him the window to dodge gets even bigger. You just have to be patient since you do relatively so little damage.

Just fought Zhao Yun. I don't like how it's so easy to bait certain bosses into a single attack. It trivializes the whole fight.

Here's an example. All you have to do is sprint away and he'll do this attack. Then you do two extremely simple dodges and backstab him. You can repeat this for the entire fight without even taking damage.

Baiting the AI is normal for a Soulslike. Champion Gundyr in DS3 and The Pursuer in DS2, for example, are two bosses made trivial if you know how to bait them

like this
50 hours in and I hit my first roadblock with demon of obsession. How. Just how. Even the spell that she's weak against takes a ridiculously long time to charge up and there's no way to defend yourself as it's charging. Not only that but it doesn't work half the time... Seems like if she's in the middle of certain attacks the spell does nothing.

I thought Zhao Yun was the hardest boss in the game, but in 3 runs I NEVER met the criteria for the Demon of Hatred showing up. Got the shit ending all three times despite doing my absolute best to complete all NPC quests. I guess I just clicked through shit too fast and gave what's his face that green chisel or whatever.

I beat it! 55 hours. Got the good ending.

I was wondering why the final boss was so damage spongy but then I realized I'd been playing the whole game without leveling my sword past level 7 😭

Here's my review:

ez game,
ez life,
wuchang will you,
be my wife

8.5 / 10
