RoboCop: Rogue City

It seems to be the full game just locked up.
Game stutters quite a bit. And I am not feeling it. For 30 hours would be a chore to play through. Unless the open world is interesting.

The graphics in this game are actually pretty pathetic so it's ridiculous how demanding it is. I can't believe how positive so many people are about this utter garbage. It looks like crap and runs like crap.

i thought it was alright but looked and ran kinda like crap.

I'm low key entertained by it. Had a laugh when the 'auto detect' put the settings at high. My little 1660 chugged pretty hard on it, but medium seems ok.

The writing was pretty funny as is ticketing parked cars while I roll around in the block. The breakable terrain (in the news building) was nice as is the 80's gore of heads being blown off. I need to get a little better about shooting people in the junk.

Graphic wise - yeah, it's pretty rough. Textures on lab coats flickering, hair looking like wire, models not facing right in a 'cut scene', water puddles flickering like rain but a clear sky, etc. The mouth sync is more often than not off. Also had one issue where I was done talking to the homeless guy about aliens and the screen was widening out to my normal view but stopped. Had to restart the game.

The inability to jump or move super fast is.. annoying. Especially walking half way across the map is a yawn.

Over all I think it has some great possibilities and I hope the final game is more polished when it goes out the door. If not then should be good for a discount buy.

Edit:

Ok.. quick follow up after an hour - so the demo is about three hours with as many of the side quests as I could find. An interesting mix of writing, humor, and cheeky side kick. Not super amazing, but a demo so ok with that.

Just downloaded the demo, and I was not impressed by it. While it ran fine on my machine at max settings at 4K, I noticed some stuttering though the framerate stayed at 120 FPS most of the time.

Gameplay wise, I though it was bland and generic. I wasn't really expecting much from this game anyway though I liked the first two films.

This game's more or less fan service. Gameplay & graphics aside, there's a lot that's well done about it. Where I would normally be skipping the cutscenes in every other game (because they're all trash) - I could actually sit through this game's cutscenes and found the writing interesting, if not for any other reason than they did a great job at matching the tone and atmosphere of the movies. I'm an incredibly critical bastard, but I think people might be too hard on this game. It's relatively low budget compared to other popular AAA shooters that I'm sure everyone is comparing this game to in their mind. I'm not saying the game's great or anything, but reading all the feedback you'd think the game is complete trash that's not worth anyone's time, which is far from the truth.

So this is another game that has issues with gsync. I turned it off in the Nvidia control panel for just this game and started a new game playing for about ten minutes and NOT ONE SINGLE stutter or fps drop with normal vsync. With gsync on it was stuttering all over the place and even had some huge fps drops. And yes gsync is set up correctly and works great in most games.

The demo has a patch out which fixes the stutter, they didn't add shader pre-comp but instead deferred loading of high res textures until you get closer to the area which can be visible in some areas.

Gsync was never the issue before, it was the Unreal Engine shader stutter which is well documented.

Now it's perfectly smooth.

You can see some of the delayed load textures at the start in a vid I did post-patch:

Also, XeSS still offers the best temporal stability, but you can't use frame gen when using anything but DLSS in this game which is a shame. There's no input latency increase noticed when using frame gen either, even at 5160x2160 using Epic settings which is nice.

Gsync WAS the issue for me on the settings I was running when I posted that because it was BEFORE the patch even came out.

You would have still had stutter, regardless of whether you noticed it or not, shader stutter is shader stutter until it's optimised/fixed by the developer of the game. Unless you saw a completely flat frametime graph then there will have been stuttering to some degree at the very least.

Ok you clearly have not paid attention to my posts on these forums. I am by far the biggest complainer of stuttering in games and bitch about it all the time. There was not one single hitch or stutter of any kind that could be seen with the naked eye or felt when running normal vsync where as with gsync it was stuttering like crazy.

I get that but your experience surely then is an isolated one? Why is the gsync setting on your setup causing stutter like crazy? There has to be a cause as that's not normal. This is the first time I've read a report from someone whereby gsync was the cause of shader stuttering (in this game or any). So your situation does seem quite unique then.

Out of interest did you ever try Vsync On in NVCP as well as Low Latency mode set to Ultra in NVCP? Both settings go hand in hand with Gsync, this is what I use and everything is smooth (Gsync ultimate OLED 144Hz). Turning Gsync off means tearing unless you use vsync, in which case, outside of gsync, vsync on its own introduces input latency which may be undesired depending on the game.

Maybe somehow it had still cached everything from the earlier playthrough even though I had started a new game.

Interesting.. I pre-ordered it on steam.. I'll check there later.

it looks like something from like 2008 to me.

I played through the demo twice and had a blast... I feel like the demo gives you a pretty decent sample size too. It sort of had the same vibe as FEAR (original) to me. The game performed fine for me as well with everything maxed at 4k..

edit: I have a g-sync (enabled) display with in game v-sync disabled. zero tearing, very smooth.

You might wanna check out this thread, too. Not to OT this thread, I just didn't see you in there, yet you named one of the best PC games that inspired it. :)

you should def reach out to them being it's release day

i actually thought it was already out because it's already been up on the crack sites for at least a couple days now
If you preordered the "Alex Murphy" edition you got to play it two days early.

Scores are all over the place, but there seems to be a consensus that you'll really enjoy it if you're a fan of the films. The story fits neatly in between the second and third movies.

Teyon is one of the few developers out there keeping faithful to the source material they're adapting. Some knuckleheaded reviewers even made a knock against the game for it being "too faithful." I'd love to see what Teyon could do with a bigger budget.

I kind of wish they didn't do the infinite ammo with the pistol thing or at least on higher difficulties they should make it limited some how.

I got it. Downloaded already but started my COD MW3 campaign instead as that was ready to play.

I vividly recall the first movie but don't remember anything about the second or third so it should definitely be a surprise for me!

I like the second one. It's got Tom Noonan in it, so it must be good. I think the third one even has its charm, but it's not nearly as good as the first two. You can watch it free on Tubi.

The 2nd Robocop movie is generally regarded negatively by fans of the first film. I think the movie gets a lot more criticism than it deserves. I think the biggest thing that works against it is the heavy handed anti-drug messaging in the film which was par for the course in the 1990's. I don't hate the film by any means but I think it falls well short of the first movie by focusing more on the anti-drug messaging and almost entirely dropping many of the themes that made the first one so amazing.

The third movie is genuinely in “so bad it’s good” territory. There is so much wrong with it that it just becomes fun to watch.

While I’d argue that the first movie is the only good one in the entire franchise, I can at least respect 2 for trying. Getting Frank Miller to work on the script and hiring Kershner to direct were not bad ideas, but it’s basically impossible to emulate Verhoeven.

Hot take: Frank Miller is overrated. I think there is a good reason why few of his ideas made it into Robocop's 2 and 3. They were bad ideas. His version is actually available in comic book form and a lot of the garbage that made it into three with the robotic ninja's and trash like that was all him.

That being said, I think Robocop 2 also fails for not having the same depth of social commentary and satire. What they did in 2 was copy / paste without understanding the underlying reason why the 1st movie was so good. There are elements of Robocop 2 I enjoy but again, it comes across as a very expensive "D.A.R.E" propaganda piece which is in itself a turn off. There are other elements of comedy meant to lighten the film in places but rather than seamlessly blending into the film, its incongruent and almost felt like an afterthought.
