Resident Evil 4 (remake)

I don't think that handgun would be usable after parrying a chainsaw once, though. I wonder if they're going to gamify that and force you to buy a new one after parrying those attacks so many times.

It's actually the knife he's using to parry (you can see it in some other clips), but in that one things are moving too quickly to see it. In the full video rundown you can see a little prompt on the screen similar to the kick option. It seems to be there for an extended period of time, so I'm guessing you can probably mistime it and get penalized.

RE2 Remake knives had damage/limited lifespan and uses - probably that again

haha the roundhouse is somehow even more satisfying in this - that is a cathartic THWOMP

this looks really, really good so far.

March just can’t get here soon enough! Gonna be a long winter.

one of those doesn't belong in that group (in terms of quality) ;)

Come on. This from the company that had Chris punch a giant boulder off a cliff.

I mean yeah they literally cut out an entire major section from RE3, like shit I don't know what they expected.
To be fair, it was a different team who made RE3. RE4 is being made by the "Division 1" team, which is the primary team that works on the RE series and made RE2 remake. The team that made RE3 remake was originally making RE4 (M-Two), but they were replaced when RE3 was poorly received. The producer is right in allaying those concerns considering most people are not privy to that kind of detail.

Man RE3 could have been good, like the right DNA was there but they wiffed it somehow

Nemesis was a pussy little bitch who chases you at like 2 points in the game for 30 seconds and gets downed in one hit by a grenade. You don't really get followed like you do in the original where you hear a door slam and know he's about to come sprinting at 90mph and donkey punch you.

And it's literally just missing a huge chunk.

I loved 3 Remake - played it more than 2 Remake (actually about the same)

I kept replaying to get everything in the points shop (besides rocket launcher) myself without buying the DLC (including multiple of each power coin)

I wasn't a fan of the original 3 so probably that lack of nostalgia for it helps - I recall at the time being like "more Raccoon City? We already did that in 2!"

My only complaint is that even I agree Mr. X was more Nemesis than Nemesis was, to it's own detriment.

Jill + Carlos felt more fleshed out and better or whatever than the everyone in 2 Remake

I'm hoping they've maintained the melee goodness because I don't remember seeing any sweet roundhouse kicks in the trailer. Somewhere between RE4 and RE6 I remember having to abandon ammo because I kept using melee and knife after stunning enemies with a leg or headshot.

I remember buying this on disc for the PC when it first came out, and getting it home and realizing it had no mouse support, then having to run 2 or 3 "mouse fixes" a few months later to try and play it with the mouse.

I finally got real good just using the KB by itself because I could never get it to work with the mouse. Not sure if they ever came out with a patch for the mouse support since I only played it once.
Hopefully they give it "real" mouse support this time.

RE4 HD has mouse support. I don't know about the original release. The HD Retexture project includes a mod that makes mouse support even better.

The problem with RE4 HD was certain QTE would mess up and be unwinnable if you ran @ 60 FPS - so you'd have to run the game at 60FPS, if you got to an unwinnable QTE, go to 30 FPS, then afterward go back to 60 FPS 🙄

Which reminds me - I hope they use the same god awful engine revision they're using with the 2 & 3 Remake (and 7 and 8 I presume) DX 12 ray tracing update - because they run like shit and CTD even when well within or below GPU/memory constraints (as shown in in-game settings - even after the recent patch update)

Seeing as a lot more people like 4 and can hopefully cause enough noise to get Capcom to fix that shit

The QTE tied to FPS thing was fixed in an early patch.

For what it's worth, Capcom issued patched for the games that addressed the issues with the DX12 versions. RE8 only broke for people who preordered the DLC. If you disable the future DLC in Steam the game will work fine.

RE3 crashed the other day for me (after patch) - at the same problematic spot - when the zombies knock over the fence before Jill and Brad run into the bar

And in-game settings showed me @ only 6GB of GPU mem out of 8 (~7.88 or something)

I also believe I had the QTE bug in RE4 HD YEARS after release when I finally played it - Indiana Jones boulder I believe? I couldn't win and had to look up why and came across the 60 FPS bug and then was able to proceed (Edit: Steam achievements show I played this in 2015)

I have the 2007 Ubisoft version.

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Resident_Evil_4

Resident Evil 4 is a third-person action horror shooter developed by Capcom, ported by Sourcenext, and published by Ubisoft overseas and Capcom in Japan. It is the fourth mainline installment in the Resident Evil series.

The game was released for the Nintendo GameCube on January 11, 2005, and despite originally being exclusive to that system, it was ported to PlayStation 2 on October 25 the same year. Another port was released for PC on May 15, 2007, however, it was based off the inferior PlayStation 2 port rather than the superior GameCube version, with even more problems than the PlayStation 2 version.[1] The PC version initially shipped with none of the game's original lighting, lower quality textures, and introduced bugs and crashes that were not present in the previous console versions. A patch was eventually released to address these issues and the poor visual downgrades. Despite being released on PC, however, it does not accommodate keyboard and mouse controls as it does not support mouse controls whatsoever, and in-game button prompts only references generic button numbers rather than actual keys from the keyboard. In response to the poor state the initial PC version was released in, Capcom hired QLOC to develop another PC port, which was released through Steam in 2014 as the Ultimate HD Edition.

There was a modding community attempting to fix other issues with the PC version, however, since the release of the Ultimate HD Edition, modders has moved onto creating mods for that version instead.

RE4’s final act, which is set on an industrial island and features a more action-movie approach is considered by many to be the weakest part of RE4 which has led to speculation that the section may have been cut in the remake...the island will be returning and may even be expanding...according to Resident Evil 4 remake director Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, Capcom took a unique approach to developing the RE4 remake, splitting the team into three, with each focusing on a major area – the village, the castle, and the island...these teams then brought their work together to create a unified whole

“Our approach was quite granular. Rather than saying, 'Oh, this is a bit that we struggled to make in the original due to technological limitations that we can now perfect,' we took a hundred individual small elements that made up the original gameplay experience and remake and polished those building blocks. [...] This remake is very much the sum of many parts”

Wasn't the island the place where the Regenerators are?

That was like the only part of RE4 trying to even be anything like Resident Evil

I’d be happy if they omitted the helicopter section though, always found that part to be such a drag.

Or at least change it to be more streamlined. I always felt that they put that section in to drag out the ending. It's the only section in the game that I use the Ditman glitch to clip through the first locked door and skip the first half.

Personally, the only area I really hated was the fight with Krauser. That entire section was a bit wack in the way it was handled. I want them to keep the fight itself, but just overhaul how the fight goes down.

I like the actual Krauser fight, they just need to get rid of the QTE theater that comes before it.

I haven't been paying much attention to this, is there going to be qte's in this here remake? I'd hope they would leave that crap in the past and do away with it entirely. I remember getting rolled by that goddamn boulder more times than I'd like to admit in my first playthrough (man that was a long time ago!).

Looks there are QTEs from the video we've seen so far. The question is whether or not they're the same as the original. I don't mind requiring a quick button press or something like that in situational moments, but what I don't like is pressing buttons during a cutscene. If they are similar, then I hope there is an option to automatically complete them like a lot of games do these days.

RE4 was the first game I played that had qte’s, seemed pretty innovative to me at the time and I found that it added tension in a way that I enjoyed, so I’m ok with them being there in the remake.

I’m all for an option to disable them but if they were just more forgiving and didn’t force you to backtrack so much when you fail we’d all be more generally ok with them I think.

I mean, don’t you have to redo the entire mine cart ordeal over again after failing the jump qte at the end of it? Yeah, that’s excessive. The Krauser one pisses me off every time too, and the second boulder on professional of course. Salazar one as well. And the lasers. Not to mention how much harder they are on PC using a kb/m. Nevermind I talked myself out of it, fuck qte’s.

Probably wait for PC version since don't have a PS5. I been playing Resident Evil 4 VR on Quest 2 and its still very fun. Originally played it on PS2. Then again on PC. 3rd time now on VR. Guess 4th will be the remake.

:D I just remember the window of oppertunity being very small, like a fricken fraction of a second, and could lead to some real unfairness during your first play through. Once you play through and get the layout memorized a bit it's less of a problem, but still now that I think about it, I still struggled with Krauser even after multiple runs. Also I think it was already mentioned here, but the cutscene qte's were/are just a bad mechanic in general.

The Game Informer article says that there are no QTEs outside the close encounters with enemies. I'm pretty sure there was a checkpoint right before the jump at the end of the cart section, but I could be mistaken.

You don't have to wait for anything. It's releasing on all platforms simultaneously.

You need to babysit Ashley more according to this excerpt from the full GI piece. She no longer has a health bar, but she will go into a "downed" state if she gets hit too much. If she gets hit again while in this state it's game over. You can no longer tell Ashley to hide in garbage bins. She can also act more independently, meaning more of a chance to get in trouble. Sounds like a poor change, but we'll see how this actually plays out in practice.

I really like what they've done with this remake. It's still unquestionably RE4, but modernized. I'll cross my fingers that it isn't shitty under the surface, but I'm really encouraged by everything that has been shown so far.
