Anyone get their Steam Deck ordered?

I work two minutes from home so the second I got the delivery notification I ran home to get it off the porch. Unfortunately these things ship in a very obvious box. And FedEx blows.

This is absolutely unreal, I reached out to Valve, told them the situation, and they sent me another one! Even before any resolution was reached with FedEx, I’m absolutely floored. It’s even set to arrive this Sunday, I am so grateful, just wow.

I deal with FedEx with work all the time and it’s always something. It’s cheaper I guess but not worth it. Team brown all day.

I actually travel for work so I’m never around for deliveries, makes things tricky.

Any other shipment that matters to this degree I’ll just set to pick up at a location that requires ID, not worth the gamble.

Niiiiiiiiiiice, fucking awesome!!! Props to Valve for how they handled this particular situation. Glad things worked out!

UPS is a unionized company whose workers get good wages and benefits, and their ability to actually make on time deliveries to the intended destination is excellent.

Fedex doesn't even hire their own drivers and generally treats their workers with contempt. Coincidence?

Really? My experience with UPS is markedly worse where I live than with FedEx. Worse still with USPS. I suspect it is more a local/regional distribution center/branch/driver issue than a union/non union one. Huge companies do have issues maintaining a uniform experience nation/world wide.

Woohoo! Ordered mine on July 11 and just got the e-mail about 5 minutes ago and completed the purchase!

Alright so an update on my debacle.. the delivery date changed from Sunday to Monday, I travel for work and had to head to Buffalo, NY early so it was again out of my hands, the address was yet again to my home even though I confirmed the Fedex location with the rep from Valve. I couldn't change the destination on the delivery via the app so I called, and got it done, it arrived, and my gf picked it up today!

She sent me pictures of the package and it was a brown box, but it said "Steam Deck 512gb" right on it, Fedex didn't even ask her for her for her ID, I was told she'd need the tracking number and proof address, they didn't ask for either. I'm still completely stunned that Valve sent me another one so quickly, and without a single piece of evidence other than my description of the issue and two photos, one of the package on the porch of wherever, and a picture of the front of my house.

A rep from Fedex also called me today saying that they would reach out to the shipper and come up with a resolution regarding the original. Not sure what that might lead to, would it be killer to be reimbursed for the first one? I mean, yeah of course but more importantly, I'd just rather whichever thief that ended up with it to not be able to use it. I'm hoping they can brick it via s/n or something.

Either way, I've got it and I'm just completely stunned by the way Valve handled this.

Just got my hands on it. First impressions are good, but the controls feel a little weird, particularly the shoulder buttons, the triggers are fine but the shoulder buttons feel a little awkward to reach. The buttons on the back are kind of hard to press, though I’m not sure I’d use grouse anyway. Also, left joystick is a little rough on top, hoping that works itself out in time.

So, mine is out for delivery today. When it was shipped, the delivery date was today, Saturday. I then checked a few hours later and it changed to Friday and I thought YES! Checked Thursday night and it changed back to Saturday which is still cool with me. Checked Friday and now there is a delay in Chicago and the date changed to Sunday and I thought WTF is going on. Then checked last night and it was in Olive Branch, Ms set to be delivered on Saturday. Reading through all the problems people have been having with the deliveries and having one shipped myself, I now see the issue at hand. It is not FedEx but FedEx Home which is or was FedEx Ground which I never really had good things to say about them. Not saying that FedEx isn't bad as all delivery services are equally horrible these days, just that FedEx Ground/Home set the standard on bad in my opinion.

Fedex home is the worst in my area too.
I can't recall when I had a FedEx home that didn't have some sort of issue

Just got my 512GB paid. How long they taking to ship?!

Anyone else in Canada get a message saying 'there is a backlog with our Canadian shipping service, we are working through it as fast as we can' ?

Just got my Deck today; Haven't had much time to tinker with it, but did play through a run of Hades on it. Every handheld I've used have always given me hand cramps, and I heard the larger size of the Deck alleviates this, but I was still expecting some cramping. But nothing, I played with it for roughly an hour and didn't feel cramping at all.

So yeah, first impressions are very positive on the hardware.

One of my console-only buddies decided to take the plunge when the decks popped up for immediate sale/delivery. He drives constantly and loves the Switch, so hopefully this will bring him over to the dark side. I think he was the only "gamer" I've ever known that had to create his first Steam account in 2022.

I vehemently hate the switch due to it being a turd and hurting my large hands, I loved the OG xbox controller dearly and the Steam Deck with the killswitch case on it is a dream come true for ergonomics. I dropped off 10 pairs of pants at the seamstress to install pockets large enough for it today.

Jnco's were ahead of their time eh?

Caved and impulse bought a mint-used 256GB deck last night. All original packaging, accessories, approx 20hrs total use. I'm pretty excited, just hope I actually use it 😅

Bought the 64 GB version last late last week and it arrived today. Heading to Microxenter tomorrow for a 1TB nvme. Along with the 1 TB sandisk exterem plus, I will have a 2 TB Deck for less than $700.

I want to get Diablo 2 and an emulator. Spent like $100 on steam games that all cost less than $10 yesterday. Ready for some couch gaming!!!

I thought the 64GB was embedded and not upgradeable like the 256 and 512 versions.

Everything I have been reading over the last few days agrees. It should be replaceable.

I ordered mine over the weekend. I went for a 512GB because I could. It's within my capability to open it and replace an SSD but just in case I have any issues with it I don't want to worry about having opened it. Hopefully the anti glare screen is nice. Should find out tomorrow...

All versions, including the 64GB version have a removable SSD that can be changed out and upgraded.
That's what I did as well - I got the base 64GB version and replaced the SSD with a Samsung PM991a 1TB 2230 drive.

Super quick process and very easy to do:

The deck has been out awhile. Everyone still enjoying it or think it's worth buying today?

Yep. It's made me glad that I've collected games on steam for the past 18 years. I'm playing stuff I thought I'd never have time for. I'm not holed up in my office. It might ruin my enthusiasm for desktop PC hardware.

Interesting, usually eMMC means soldered on board on most consumer devices.
I see there's even a 2TB drive in 2230 form factor too!

Yeah, 2TB 2230 drives are still a bit pricey but definitely an option.
I think the more cost effective way is getting a bigger microSD card, and using that in conjunction with the SSD. Games installed on the SD card run great and I haven't had any issues with this at all.
