Starfield

No Man's Skyrim.... Meh. Was not impressed or excited at all, sadly.

Looks OK no Man's sky is too saturated with colors. Starfield has Square guns anyway.
I'll pick it up in 2023.....

While No Man's Skyrim does seem really appropriate for the game, I don't mind it. It looks like could be fun, depending on how the actual gameplay loop ends up working. I absolutely love the overall look of all the tech. As soon as I saw just how chunky everything looked I was immediately hooked. The guns, the ships, the buildings, all of it just has this early sci-fi chunkyness to it and it's an atheistic that I dig so much and something you just don't see often enough in video games. The color palette is nice too, it's not over saturated but doesn't seem too muted either. I like that they're taking some of the interesting concepts from FO4 (gun modification and settlement building) and seemingly expanding on them. I could see myself spending many hours designing ships and playing around with settlement building, as long as the options are there to go a little crazy. Plus, the modding scene should be incredible, I can't wait to see all the ways models play with the game. Just imagine all the different planets they could add, the ships, weapons, and so on. I'm really hoping this turns out to be fun, I haven't been hooked on a Bethesda game since FO3 and I'd love to be able to sink my teeth into something like this and stay latched on for many dozens of hours.

The trailer seemed more like Fallout in space rather than Skyrim in Space to me.

I hope they have a lot more towns/cities/whatever with actual NPCs. One thing I didn't like about the Fallout games was there were very few NPCs compared to the ES games, and the missions with people tend to be much more interesting than the ones without. Quests like the dark brotherhood missions were interesting and you could get creative with how you completed them, and there were tons of different things that could happen because of all the NPC interactions. Quests like go collect 10 rat hides is pretty boring. They said there are 1000 planets, hopefully there are more to them than randomly generated bandit hideouts.

Also the gunplay looks nearly identical to what was in their Fallout games (excluding VATS). Where they're just super inaccurate because you have to level up, and your real life skill doesn't matter a whole lot. I found that very annoying and it made the games a lot less fun to me.

It still looks like it will be a fun game either way though.

finally some gameplay footage!...looks like Fallout in space combined with No Man's Sky...I don't trust Bethesda with creating 1000+ planets...looks like it'll get old fast after exploring the first 50 or so planets...Bethesda needs to innovate the gameplay versus copying the Elder Scrolls/Fallout formula

combat looks pretty basic and graphics don't look all that great...the quality of the quests will make or break this game...

Starfield: Official Gameplay Reveal

I watched during the Xbox stream, and I turned it off 5 minutes into the presentation at the end. The Xbox stream was honestly painful, but this looked so bland that I turned the stream off. Bethesda really need to make a new game engine already.

I got an Outer Worlds vibe from it, which isn't too shocking. As long as the game doesn't involve too much mineral/fuel collecting and such, I'm in.

I get a Planetside feels I don't care for No Mans Sky it's like the game is done for attention this looks solid.

Wow that looks janky and uninspiring. The ship and character customization do look great, but apart from that I’m not seeing anything even vaguely interesting. Environments and animations look the same or even worse than all those Unity/UE4 NMS clones on steam, combat looks sluggish and bullet-spongey, and the cool retro-futuristic art style they had going on in concept doesn’t look like it translated well into the actual 3D models. Bit of a shame :/

Looks like it will be Chore Simulator: Space Edition. Lots of collecting crap, barren worlds with no real content and the like. They showed off holding a button to make a piece of rock fall off a big rock. Who finds that stuff fun?
Star Citizen fanboys :p

I expect they are clenching hard now, because Starfield seems to actually be what Star Citizen has been promising for 10 years. Copium will be in high demand in the Star Citizen circles.

I don't get the no man's sky comparisons. This looks infinitely better than that, and while you might land on barren land, most planets seem to have structures.
If I must compare it to something then it is the mako exploration in ME1. And I always liked that.
  • The combat seems exactly like Fallout4, which is not great, but good enough.
  • As usual with bethesda games what I'm afraid of is that the main quest will be uninspired and boring. But hopefully there will be enough side stuff for that to not even matter.
  • I see nothing wrong with Fallout4 in space.
  • In TES / Fallout you could always skip resource collection, and just buy or loot all your equipment, I see no reason why that can't be the case here.
  • Ship customization looks great
  • character creator seems to be a carry over from F4, the creation engine can't die soon enough
  • space dogfighting seems a bit sluggish
  • It seems you can disable ships and then dock with them to loot them, space pirate life here we go.

Overall I really liked the trailer, I expected much worse. Of course who knows how many attempts they made to record these segments glitchless.

I'm cautiously optimistic but we will see. I am pretty taken aback by how much they flat out ripped off of No Man's Sky. I guess imitation is the best form of flattery. If I can get "Fallout/No Man's Sky hybrid in space" with *relatively* few issues from Bugthesda then that's good enough for me whenever this ever finally shows up. Mods will save it again likely like all of their other previous games. I hope it doesn't get bogged down in survival and crafting/rogue elements, too.

At the start of the show when they said they were going to show the most anticipated RPG in the last decade, I thought it was going to be Elder Scrolls 6, not Starfield. I did however think the Starfield presentation was pretty good other than the gun combat (no bullet impact on enemies) and the NPC that looked lifeless when they were trying to show off NPCs. The ship combat looks like it could be fun, but likely will get boring quickly unless they have more types of attacks and maneuvers. Personally I hope it doesn't have a voiced protagonist otherwise I will probably skip the game, Fallout 4's voiced protagonists worked against its replayability.

I backed Star Citizen in like 2014 or whenever, and finally decided to try the alpha last month. I was pleasantly surprised to be honest. It did run kinda crappy (as in I needed a better PC but still was buggy), but I was actually pretty impressed. It's suffered from massive and unprecedented feature creep, but man does it have a lot of features -- the flight model and what you can do with a hotas or configuring a whole functional home cockpit is crazy.

It's not what people who backed it originally were wanting or pitched (myself included), but that's what Squadron 42 is supposed to be (I'm actually more doubtful that Squadron 42 will ever release than I am Star Citizen will "release").

Starfield looks cool to me, and I really love the ship building aspect. Sure looked like they were flying with a mouse, though, which is a bit of a red flag for those (like me) who hoped it would dip its toes just enough into the space sim category to satisfy us. And of course I'd love VR support but I doubt that'll be a thing.

I also laughed when they said that Bethesda defined the RPG genre.

Except the multiplayer part. But I am doubtful Star Citizen will really be multiplayer capable in a meaningful way for a long time. So this certainly scratches a big itch.

That is very lame for 2023. They have more than enough money to hire a voice actor. And no, hiring a voice actor doesn't mean you can have less dialogue options. It just means you have to record more lines. After releasing Skyrim half a dozen (or actually a dozen?) times, they have more than enough money. This isn't a lower budget Japanese game that can't afford English voice actors.

Well this won't be sim like at all. It is a mass market appeal RPG, with consoles in mind. So it has to be designed around mouse and gamepad controls. I expect it to be very basic.

The original X-Wing and Tie Fighter were also playable with a mouse, still they were some of the best games ever, esp. Tie Fighter.

Starfield looks very generic in every sense...even the ship battles look boring...nothing new or innovative...they only seem to know how to make one type of game...and now even that formula is starting to run dry (Fallout 76)...hopefully they don't screw up Elder Scrolls 6

That can very well be true. I'm just saying this game is designed for mass appeal on common input devices, so it won't be sim like. Doesn't mean it will be bad. Just simplistic. I think expecting a niche game that requires a HOTAS from a major AAA studio, especially for a game where you'll spend more time on foot is an unrealistic expectation.

And to be honest, going from a HOTAS to a mouse/keyboard and back and fourth in a single game would be a bit hectic. I can manage with an Xbox controller for driving in some games like GTA or Mafia Remake. But a HOTAS? Doubtful.

Just play with a controller so you don't have to switch back-and-forth. It's not like the combat is gonna be good enough to require precision with a mouse.

The shooting looks a little more twitchy than Fallout (even 76, the shooter'est of the bunch), but it's not exactly Quake 3, either. A pad should be more than sufficient if you're used to one. I re-watched everything today and I still think it's like their answer to The Outer Worlds. It's less lighthearted, but the the visuals and style definitely match. The non-speaking protagonist doesn't bother me. It can be a nice touch when they hire a good actor for the job, but it's absolute hell when you don't like the lead. I wouldn't say I'm endlessly excited for it, but I'm hopeful. My only concern is that I don't want a No Man's Sky (or even Mass Effect 1) situation where you're constantly gathering shit and battling with your inventory screens.

I'm scared, if their demo has fps problems, the series S is gonna be a disaster :(

Surprised at the amount of negativity in this thread. I was pleasantly surprised with everything I saw in the trailer. Looks to be a lot of fun, as someone said, looks to be what star citizen originally set out to be but with more RPG elements.

I mean to be honest, I don't see a problem. Skyrim was a great game with tons of replayability, yeah its a bit of a meme now, but only because it had so much staying power and was re-released on every electronic device for over a decade.

No Man's Sky is apparently good now, as well.

So mashing together two really good games and having a decent story to go with it? Call me intrigued.

Everyone always bitches when a new Bethesda game comes out...

Waa, "I'm not impressed", Waaah "Its Skyrim / Fallout in Space!" Ect....

Take a moment and realize that these types of games are a wet canvas, with modding you can make it anything you want. If you want to. I could nitpick at the game, sure. But I had no part in its development. So why bother?

I can mold my toilet dump into a sculpture of David. I will still call said dump the shit that it is.
