[Dead]SeaSonic Focus: 850w Platinum - $159.99 / Gold for $139.99

Temped to buy this my self. I have a focus gold 750 atm. It doesn't have enough pci-e/cpu connectors on it for what I need. I have to use a piggy back connector for one of the gpu connector.

Also X-series cables are not interchangeable with the new FOCUS/PRIME cables:

Code:
Thank you for contacting Seasonic.

For the SS-1050XM, it's not possible to use these cables, not of all them will fit or got same pinouts.

However, for FOCUS GX and PRIME 1000 Gold, they are compatible so you can interchange without any problem.

Any other question, please let us know.

Thank you.

Hmmm. Weird. Because when you scroll down and look at the compatibility index for these CableMods, they seem to work with... everything.

And these BitFenixes, which I have, are listed as compatible between the series as well.

That's a good point.... I have a bunch of cables left over from my X-1050w but was afraid to use them on my prime/focus psus so I shot Seasonic an email and that's what they told me.

I didn't do any research in advance because I figured a modular SeaSonic cable was a modular SeaSonic cable. And these replacement cables sets aren't cheap, so I have no desire to swap them out.

I guess I'll find out for sure next week. But between BitFenix and CableMod factually stating compatibility in spec sheets, I can't imagine that would be the case if there even a hint of possible issues by promoting it.

Its funny that you guys mention the spare cables as thats a big part of my choice in psus. The only reason im not grabbing one of these is the double ended pci-e cables. I cant stand trying to hide the second ends. Then with spare cable sets costing what they do im holding out for a Prime 850gx. Its the only seasonic ive found with single pci-e cable ends. Fortunately im in no big hurry so hopefully ill catch a sweet sale like this some day!

Does Best buy not stock anything in-store? Everytime I try and buys something it is delivered to the store in a week. What the hell is the point of their B&M presence when I can just get it from Amazon the next day.

Of course they stock plenty of items but why would they have a PSU that's likely to sit there and collect dust in the store? It really depends on the individual store but I'm pretty sure they know best on what items to keep in stock and what items they'll just order when they need them for someone.

Its most likely the opposite. Seasonic 850watt psus of all kinds are hot commodities because of recent gpu requirements(real and percieved). They sell out regularly on amazon and almost always end up with one of the, will be back in stock in 3-4 weeks but you can still pay for it today deals. Im sure bestbuy just cant keep them stocked when they go on sale like this but has them in a warehouse waiting to be shipped.

Again it will depend on the individual store as different locations obviously will have different needs. I guarantee you that none of the three best buys over here would ever want to stock a power supply like that.

My best buy is pretty damn pathetic when it comes to stocking anything besides TVs. Also they like to push cell phones plans. These rest of the store is pretty barren. They shut one of them down a couple years ago after only being open for 2 years. I don't get how MC is so small still and best buy is in business. Was at MC last weekend and the checkout line looked like a black friday line lol. Shit was wrapping around the store.

We have had 2 Best Buys close here in the last couple of years. We now have 3 left and they usually have some pretty decent stuff. Before all the nonsense started around the 3080 launch you could even get various high end gpus like the 2070 Super and 2080 Super. They have pretty much all the high end keyboards, mice and various SSDs. They even have some good gaming monitors and even those 49" Samsung ultra wide monitors. They have some good PSUs too but typically no more than 750 watt.

I only been to the one near me in recent times. The others are too far to both going to when I have a MC closer.

Damn, this is only about $30 more than I paid for my GX650 last year when it was almost impossible to get your hands on a quality PSU. If I had the spare cash I'd snag this in a heartbeat for my main system and use my GX650 for my server.

I had the gold version and like others have reported, it smelled like burned plastic and the fan does not work.

On the fence between this Seasonic, the Corsair RM850x (for $145), or the SF Leadex III 850W (at newegg for $125 this weekend), edit: or the Seasonic 850W GOLD. Not sure Platinum makes all the difference to me... so on a build quality and reliability basis, what's your vote?

Can't really go wrong with any of them. I would probably go Seasonic>SF>Corsair. Hard to beat the SF on that price tho.

I picked up one of the super flower leadex 850 golds as a back up for $125 but that didnt last but a couple weeks. Had to replace a friends old pos with it. Its has been solid as a rock. Build quality seems solid. Rails are tight underload and hasnt given him any issues to speak of. Its way overkill for his rig but it was all i had on hand.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

My opinion has a bit of brand-loyalty bias included, but it’s for good reason. I just built a new system and I chose the Corsair RM850x. The PSU in my last system, a Corsair AX850, has been absolutely rock solid since I bought it in 2011. In that time I’ve run two different SLI setups, various other high end GPUs, and overclocked intel CPUs. I’m not a brand-loyal kind of person (because generally speaking it defies reason and logic) but in this case Corsair has earned my loyalty. Them hiring JohnnyGuru is icing on the cake in my opinion. That said, my original AX850 was a repurposed Seasonic PSU so by proxy I am also a Seasonic fan :D

I still have a AX850 running strong since 2011. Hasn’t skipped a beat.

To complicate things further; https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07WVMD...e-pcomp-wm-3-wm-8-wm-1-wm-4&ref=aa_pcomp&th=1

I mostly ignore Corsair. But I find Super Flower to be amazingly under the radar in the US. Though I'm a SeaSonic fanboy at this point.

The new PSU will be replacing my tried and true Corsair TX850W from 2009. It has spent most of its life in my 2600K SB rig and has seen years of SLI and multi-GPU folding, through many iterations. I want something new to be used now, but that will eventually be used for my new build TBD once this mad rush is over (no sense building if I don't have a GPU to go with). The Corsair has been absolutely rock solid for 12 years, but I don't want to limit myself to brand loyalty if there's something out there just as good, and price competitive.

Life isn't over for the TX850... just retirement in a spare rig for guests.

PSU's are so much more expensive. :(
