Please Don't Use USPS, They Are Now Throwing Out Packages

It looks like it was in limbo between Dec 2nd and Dec 8th when UPS said it left their facility and was on the way to the USPS facility... ... following the tracking info it appears that USPS only had it for 1 day before attempting to deliver it... and the rest of the time was with UPS or lost by UPS...I would find it hard to blame USPS when it could have been UPS that dropped the ball...

UPS and Newegg say it was transferred to USPS on December 1st. I would believe that because I personally have had items that I ship but they don't update for a couple days, and I bought a video card from someone on here who has a security image of him handing it to a courier and USPS again not updating for days.

I must be extremely lucky, but I've never had issues with any of the three major carriers (USPS, UPS and FedEx) other than UPS delivering to the house across the street instead of mine once. OnTrac on the other hand was hot garbage.

If I were cynical I'd say it was opened by the carrier and stolen out of the box and tossed in the trash.

Good thing I'm not cynical.

Well, what are they supposed to do when you don't want it? Maybe newegg also didn't want it? This is so confusing
Refusing a delivery just means return to sender. It's a common thing that is done all the time. That way you don't have to pay to ship something back. They are supposed to send it back to Newegg not throw it out.

Not political just facts. Yeah, the constant loss of money over the years is definitely taking it's toll on them. No one mailing letters anymore. Most bills sent by email or alerts now, etc.

Also, the retirement accounts a huge sums of money for them. Luckily Viagra has a generic equivalent and hopefully they can start saving money with that coverage for their retirees now.

Hope you get you issue straightened out soon. Sucks lately. I haven't had no issues with USPS, FedEx or UPS recently, but Amazon Prime delivery has dropped the ball numerous times in the past 6 months for sure.

I did Amazon delivery for a while and it blows my mind how they (drivers) can mess that up. I actually didn't like the job because of how easy and dumb proofed it was. The device they give you and method for loading the truck literally did everything for you except the driving and walking to the door.

I've been having a lot of issues with USPS over the last year or so, and it keeps getting worse.

I had a bike jersey shipped from California end up in Puerto Rico this summer (I'm in TX). It spend a week there before it got back into the system. Currently waiting on a pair of gloves from NY that has been "In Transit" for 10 days. I know it's cold guys but dammit get your own gloves!

Usps has lost billions of dollars over the last thirteen years, long before that happened.
Pretty sure politcs is against the rules here.
The post office is not a for profit business it is a government agency. Losing money or making money does not affect it - defunding it, laying off employees and removing essential sorting equipment does.

That money doesn't come out of thin air. Taxes go up to pay for it and they continue to do a poor job.

Would not be surprised if United State total parcel revenue increase more than mail declined too, no ?

Nope - UPS and FedEx pay the Postal Service to deliver hundreds of millions of their ground packages, and USPS pays UPS and FedEx for air transportation. ... The Postal Service receives NO tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

This is what we have to deal with:

Pleasant Pa 12/3 and was delivered yesterday 12/12 but the delivery status was updates was real off the wall. but I glad I received the watch and really like it. will sell my series 2 watch now.

USPS is just atrocious at the moment. Had something shipped from NC to IN. It has been a week, and still has not arrived. Check out these wonderful updates, super helpful:
(seller cheaped out and sent via snail mail (after I offered to cover shipping)- is there anything that can be done via paypal? Paid via Goods & services)

I shipped a Titan Xp to another member last month who lives in California. It took a detour from KY, to Guam, to Hawaii, and then California all for a total cost of $36.

I have the same issue, not with USPS but Amazon.

XovCTiV.png

I bought a $1,200 phone, used for like a week on a trip and then returned it. They claimed they did receive, and disposed it (erm, wut?). I have been fighting with bank for the dispute, but then Amazon blocked my whole account, left me no way to get proofs/tracking label created from the system to provide to the bank.

Looks like I'm out of $1,200 phone; and I don't know what do I need to do to get my money back.

I ran into two problems recently.

The first one was when I bought a CPU (5800x) off of a fellow H member. I nearly shit my pants when USPS dropped an ALERT bomb on me via their tracking number. Luckily it cleared itself up after a few days but man I was sweating during those few days.

Then just last week I ordered a fleece blanket from Amazon to throw in the living room and figured what could go wrong? Needless to say, USPS said, hold my beer and despite marking "Delivered" on the tracking number, it was nowhere to be seen. Luckily, Amazon was cool with just shipping out a replacement, so they must be aware of what mess USPS Is right now.

Well, from the way you worded it, it seemed like you bought a phone for a vacation, then returned it after you came back.
Agreed, then he got called out on it, now changing his story. I don't blame Amazon for doing that especially for borrowing a phone for a week. Ive never had an issue returning stuff to Amazon.

Lol, got called out on what? Do I need to actually explain everything in detail on a first post?

There is this fact that I bought the phone, then used it for one week, then didn't like it and then returned it.

Explain to me again sir, please, what part of the story did I change? Adding more detail to a vague story is "changing the story?" You need to start doing elementary school again.

But nvm. I don't really have time to waste with arrogant fellows.

Hey, we are just looking at this from our side, and that is what we saw. For all we know, you could have sent the wrong phone back. Many do this with Amazon and glad to see they are trying to stop it. I have received new items with the wrong item in the box because they sent back out a return.

Nothing against you or Amazon, its just the way you told us made it seem that way.

So, back on topic:

I have a few packages containing my normal monthly Subscribe & Save and other packages containing Christmas gifts for our kids that were ordered and are now in USPS hell.
Package 1: Monthly S&S order. Last item was added on Nov 30. My monthly delivery date is on the 11th day, so Dec. 11 promised delivery. Amazon ships Nov. 3 (or so they claim).

The kicker here: This morning (Dec. 15) I received multiple cancellation & refund emails for the items in the S&S order. It states:

Package 2: Christmas gift ordered Dec. 3 through 3rd party on Amazon.

Package 4: Ordered from Staples.com Dec. 11.
Current status: Out for delivery today, Dec. 15.

Package 5: Ordered from Target.com on Dec. 11. Target is smart. They use UPS brown suits instead of USPS.
Current UPS status: Scheduled delivery Friday, Dec.18.

Therefore, I conclude that USPS is discriminating against Amazon orders.

It may be the perfect storm of circumstances this time around. I never had a problem with FedEx until I recently had a fellow forum member ship something my way, and it arrived with the tape cut open and no packaging material inside. I was honestly surprised that the item I purchased was still inside, albeit with slight damage. I always figured FedEx was the most trustworthy and reliable out of all of them, but if not them then who!?

Coronavirus ate the packing materials!

Just some info: appears USPS is delivering amazon stuff np. Ordered on Fri delivered on Sat. All of my packages got big delays. UPS got here 2 days past expected delivery date.

Not my experience. USPS is at least a week behind on Amazon orders for me.

A couple of weeks ago I was waiting for 2 packages via USPS. I got a note in the tracking info saying a package was being held at the post on my request. I didn't request anything to be held. I went to the post office and they had a stack of my mail they were just holding on to and a package. According to tracking, the package at the post office was supposed to be still in transit and not to be delivered for a few days. I picked it up anyway, a few minutes later the package that was supposed to be held at the post office showed I picked it up. I double checked the tracking number and that wasn't what I had in hand. I wondered did they have to scan a label to say I got it? How could they do that if the package wasn't even there?

For those of you complaining about USPS... here has been my experience as of late.. and I ship multiple packages a week.

A couple weeks ago, I dropped off 4 packages in their inside drop box. 2 of them were scanned in and two were not scanned until they were out for delivery. I asked them about it and they said that stuff is not getting scanned unless you bring it up to the counter.
Not surprising with everything going on right now AND the fact that this is a super busy time of year. So now I am waiting in line to have stuff scanned at the counter when I go to the post office.

Over the past couple years I have only had a couple packages be lost by USPS.. and both eventually showed up. The one a couple days later and the other was one that got refused at customs overseas. They had no idea where it was but it randomly showed up on my porch a couple months later. NEVER EVER use one of those stupid plastic pouches they they like to use at all the shipping carriers. They don't hold up and you will never see your package if it gets ripped open and the shipping info gets lost.

I will say that reporting a lost package is pointless. Even if the package makes it to you or to where you sent it they will continue sending notices that they are still looking for it. Those notices usually go on for a few months until whenever they decide to stop "looking" for your package.

This is all after shipping somewhere around 1,500 packages over the past few years. 2 packages total being temporarily lost is not a bad track record at all.

On the other hand, I have had a few random issues with sellers sending me packages through USPS. I've had a couple that were routed wrong and had to be rerouted so they arrived a day or 2 late. Even had 1 that was routed wrong and was delivered back to the seller instead of to me.
---------------------------------------------------

Shipping labels - always buy online, print it out yourself and attach to the package with clear packing tape... cover the whole label, not just the edges. Covering only the edges is just asking for the label to be ripped and your package to be lost.

As for shipping cost -
USPS for anything under 1 pound. Nowhere else is cheaper. Either buy the label directly on USPS.com or go through Paypal - see below.

UPS and Fedex - it is a tossup on which will be cheaper. Depends where you are shipping from and to.

For USPS and UPS, you can buy labels through Paypal and get a good discount over buying the labels retail.
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_ship-now

The funny/sad thing is that through eBay, Fedex is almost always cheaper than UPS because the eBay UPS setup is screwed up and has been for forever. And eBay quotes the buyer a lower shipping cost than what eBay charges the seller to ship UPS. So stupid.

This. Exactly this.

My amazon packages (numerous) have been delivered quickly, and without any damage. USPS/UPS packages from non-amazon sources (also numerous) are slow, undependable, and are often banged up.

Seems as though Amazon is receiving special priority? Could be wrong, but sure seems true based upon my (limited) observation.

Just the area. USPS has been great for me. Much better than anyone else. FedEx takes light years, and UPS gouges hard and still sometimes takes like years. USPS Priority has never failed me shipping wise.

USPS is complete garbage and they are using the time of year and the pandemic as an excuse for their piss poor service.

Everyone is. Pandemic is carte blanche for every failure there is. Embrace it; can't pay mortgage? Covid. Dick goes limp? Covid. Smoke too much crack and accidentally murder a prostitute? Covid...? ;~(

Ultimately, what piques my curiosity, is how long can everyone milk this shit, who/what/when will the cut-off be? Who's gonna own up to the residual fallout, years from now, when we see the lasting reprocussions of all of it, indirectly related to the virus, and more importantly, the response? Even the WHO has admitted that, due to the (clearly misunderstood) relationships between economies, that significantly more people are going to die from starvation, this coming year (at a minimum), from the ancillary effects of covid lockdowns in "first world nations", who's economies are intrinsically tied to the subsequent "worlds" of nations. Fortunately, they clarified, after the fact, that while it obviously wasn't clear to any world leader or head of state, they never "recommended" lock-downs as a primary solution for thwarting the virus.

On topic: long term, I always hear hate for USPS, but I've never actually, permenently lost a package coming or going with USPS, out of many thousands. I have had stuff arrived damaged, late, missing pieces, etc, and yes it's amazing how much abuse some can endure, but it's never been a situation where over-built packaging wouldn't have fixed the issue. I often receive shipments of steel weighing 75lbs in a medium flat rate box (or whatever the current weight limit is, which previously was higher btw), totally intact. The trick is, a stapled, plywood liner, fit exactly to the box dimensions, and a fuck-ton of good quality duct tape fully engulfing all seams. Usually they escort me into the back of the PO and ask me to carry my package. No problemo, poor bastards got it that far, not sure who the asshat was that came up with the weight limits for flat rate boxes, but I doubt anyone would have griped if it was half as much.

On the other hand; I've had numerous packages literally disappear shipped via FedEx or UPS, tracking magically deleted, and them swearing they never existed, shipped by friends, with proof. I had a $80k network appliance, shipped in it's original packaging, with high dollar insurance, show up with actual tire tracks on the box, mangled chassis, left in a protected area, with absolute denial from UPS that it was their fault, and zero willingness to honor the insurance. I had a vintage high precision sensitive drilling machine head, extremely carefully packaged and extremely expensive to ship, thrown off the back of a UPS truck, which I witnessed, destroying the feed mechanism, rendering an irreplaceable piece of meticulously crafted antique machinery useless, and the driver, when he realized i saw him, burned off. UPS treated me like I was trying to scam them, even when I told them I didn't want the insurance money, simply to know the guy was going to be punished for it, and countless more situations with both fedex and UPS like this. Many times, with highly insured packages, for rare precision instruments or tools that are literally irreplaceable. We've learned that LTL freight, trusting independant operators of big tractor trailers, is exponentially safer, and anything that can't ship USPS, we palletize and put on a semi.

All that said, and to add, USPS tracking is dead currently, their IT infrastructure is crap. I've had packages arrive that still don't track. Their shipping infrastructure on the other hand, is working.

One thing you guys may not realize, especially with online retailers that handle third party sellers; many of those fucks will automatically generate a USPS tracking ID immediately, to satisfy the site's shipping system requirements, and then will ship with an entirely different carrier. Eventually the tracking will be deleted in USPS system because they don't have a way to void it. I've had this happen numerous times. You'll see "label created" and it never enters the system, only to have the item arrive via UPS or Fedex, all this, during normal, low volume times.

Wish I cold use that excuse, I’ve been busier than ever trying to keep a lot of these essential businesses up and running.

Edit: When the pandemic dies down I’ll probably get laid off, can I use that excuse then?
