AMD does it again.

I'm surprised they're not making them 5300s instead to categorize them with the 5000 series.

When was the last changed/upgrade to these low end parts? Are these the same as the R230/240/250 ?

Honestly for low end OEM hardware does it really matter? When it is a direct renaming it gets annoying, but if it has boosted core and memory clocks, at least there is something different.

It doesn't, really, so long as there's an accessible decoder ring somewhere so that performance and more importantly feature support can be sussed out when needed.

Next thing you know, the Radeon RX 570 and Radeon RX 580 get rebranded to the Radeon RX 5500 and Radeon RX 5500 XT

Crappy low end cards sold to OEM's are the only ones being re branded. As for the RX 570 and RX 580, they are not being re branded to anything.

...and why wouldn't AMD do that?

Radeon RX 570 and Radeon RX 580 are based on an old design and uses 14nm die and GDDR5, which are relatively cheap.

They are faster than the GeForce GTX 1650, which is selling at around the same price.

Because there is absolutely no reason to re brand those two cards nor the RX 590. They are still being sold and for the time being, produced as they are, and sell well enough. Re branding them would do nothing to further their sales. (An actual RX 5600 is coming and I would not be surprised is an RX 5500 would be coming too, if the performance is there.)

Take up to DDR 6 and it will eat more of Nvidia profits as people like a sound product and RX 570 fits that roll well as being sound in any game it plays .. at $129 is hard to beat it .

Of cause there is: it's to bring cohesion.

Many people who buy video cards are not enthusiasts who know how different video cards perform.

Rebranding the Radeon RX 570 and Radeon RX 580 to Radeon RX 5500 and Radeon RX 5500 XT, would make it clear that they are below the Radeon RX 5600, Radeon RX 5600 XT, Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5700 XT in performance.

DDR6 is expensive and it makes no sense for AMD to put it in a $129 video card.

Rebranding is a fact of life for both AMD and NVidia. Especially on the low end, so we may see more.

But they also need some low end Navi parts ASAP (to improve perf/watt for laptops), so might not want to step on the naming unless it is a segment they have no intention of upgrading to Navi in the 5000 generation.

The 5700 XT is very interesting and is selling for under $400 right now. :p

true but in doing so they'd have to move vega to the 5600/5600xt naming scheme which would create a confusing mess since AMD has already come out and said future Vega will be professional cards only while RDNA is gaming only. so that's why i think they'll never move the 570/580 to 5500/5500xt. or it could just be as simple as maybe AMD has plans for lower end 7nm at some point once vega sales are exhausted.

OEM parts. No one gives a fuck. No one buying gives a fuck as they are just buying a box that does its job.
These aren't gaming parts with value. Just AMD doing business.
Anyone who has issues and brought this up is clearly shilling. This isn't relevant at all.
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:?

Radeon RX Vega 56 and Radeon Vega 64 have already have already discontinued.

It doesn't make sense to keep making them because of how expensive HBM2 is.

Radeon RX 5600 and Radeon RX 5600 XT are going to be new cards that are going to compete with the GeForce RTX 1660 and GeForce 1660 Ti.

What I am saying is that AMD could rebrand the Radeon RX 570 and Radeon RX 580 as the Radeon RX 5500 and Radeon RX 5500 XT, and slot them under the Radeon RX 5600 and Radeon RX 5600 XT.

GeForce RTX 1650 is no match for them.

Yup my bad. Meant $300. They need a proper 580 replacement.

Well, the Radeon RX 580 isn't ~$300 anyway.

What AMD need are competitors to the GeForce GTX 1660 and GeForce GTX 1660 Ti.

And they will but, re branded RX 580 is not a proper 580 replacement, which another person thought was a good idea.

...and why wouldn't it be?

Radeon RX 580 (and Radeon RX 570) are faster than the GeForce GTX 1650, yet can be found at around the same prices

Yeah, definitely. I'm sure they have something cooking up.

Maybe they have so much extra 580/570 stock they want to clear out.

But what does that really accomplish? People can buy the RX 570 or 580 now if that is what they want.

They should both be called out, and largely are.
Those are for OEM... and likely you cannot buy them. They are meant for Dell, HP, Apple, etc.
basically AMD has too many 550x, and wants to sell them for same price as their 540x's but they can't just sell it as 550x just because OEM's already have per-defined products. Thus AMD or NV names them as 640, making 550x same price range as 540x prior.

btw. was amd 28nm done @ TSMC? (i thought it was done at GloFo) Sure they are re-brands, but its not because amd or nv wants to rebrands - its because oem's want to sell something new.

The GTX 1650 is a 75w card that doesn’t require a power connector. Any OEMs interested in it won’t be interested in rebranded Polaris.
