Microsoft said Monday that the upcoming 19H2 release, due in September, will include “a scoped set of features for select performance improvements, enterprise features and quality enhancements.” The goal appears to be to enhance what’s already in Windows, with an eye toward enterprise and partner deployments, rather than add consumer-facing features.

As part of that schedule, Microsoft said that it will release new 19H2 builds as part of the Slow Ring, the counterpart to the “Fast Ring” of Windows 10 Insider releases. Each build will be deployed as a cumulative update—a patch, in other words, rather than an entirely new build.

Would be nice if Microsoft keeps the 2nd half updates as just CU's from this point forward.

It was already known months ago that the 19H2, 20H2 and so on will be nothing more than a service pack, with no new features.

Edit: No a criticism to the OP, just saying.

stick to once a year OS updates...

As nice as this would be, the major point of a lot of patches/updates are security related unfortunately, so having your OS up to date as new threats are realized and patched is a good thing. I know it sucks, but having a secure product is sometimes a price to pay for performance especially if working in corporate.

That's exactly what patch Tuesday is for...

Yup, gives me a lot of work too! :D Work for an MSP, and I monitor patching on Tuesdays, checking patch notes, reviewing release reviews from other users, blocking patches that can impact or hurt applications our clients use, etc. Keeps me busy.

honestly since the first launch of windows 10 in 2015 every other version has been nothing but a decrease in overall system performance, specially games.. so any performance optimization Will be really welcomed, 19H1 did a better job handling the performance penalties of spectre patches however some job still need to be done.

He wasn't talking about security patches, but about the half-baked Feature(less) Updates that full-reinstall the whole damn OS multiple times per year, and end up breaking shit and requiring 3-6 months of additional patches.

OS is going on 4 years now and they still can't get it right, so better fall back to once a year on the FU's, but security patch as necessary without compromising the entire OS. Doesn't need to be a binary choice unless MS needlessly makes it one.

I bet the code for Windows 10 is like O(*U&Y*(&(SD*FHIJSDHJKOIHSDFKJLSADF1111000010101001

They need to spend a year or two actually making the update process not suck.

The last update (1903) provided some additional performance boosts as well. I'm okay if that's what they want to focus on. The only OS-level feature I really want/need is better management/organization of UWP apps.

Honestly all I want is stable releases that fix bugs, security holes and improving performance would be a nice bonus. The new features can suck it until they get the above done and working right. I'm happy to wait a year or more for this. Just give us some quality for a change.

Would be nice if they multithreaded system image backups and directory copies with lots of files.

Just fix the damn search function already :l

Fix you computer then because, I have yet to come across a computer where search itself does not work. Now, as of 1903, Cortana and Search are now separated.

I'm not a windows basher. (Much. ;) )

BUT...my laptop runs W10 v1809. It says I'm ready for an update. Shrug. Go ahead. v1903 fails. It doesn't say WHY it fails or what should be FIXED. It just fails.

I try again...after checking all the "am I ready" and "troubleshoot my updates" wizards. Yep, still fails.

C'mon MS: if you're gonna shove a single OS on all of us, at least make sure it works. (I'm using a 3 year old Asus with some good hardware. C'mon.)

Is your bios updated? Have you tried it with the USB installer?

What's wrong with Windows? Survey says.... It's too dang slow!

(well, apparently that's what the survey said)
