CDW Outlet Finds

Nice - grabbed that UPS. I can use 230V ones no problem. That is a killer price on it!
Just be sure to pick it up will call or I can almost guarantee it will arrived destroyed. I had 2 arrive completely destroyed and now just pick up all the UPSs and repack them myself. An air bubble bag thrown in a box is no match for the weight of a ups--don't know when their shipping department is going to learn that.

Not going to be a possibility for me..... 15 hour drive is not really viable. If they trash it I'm just out a killer deal is all as it would then go back.

The cost to ship it back will be more than what you paid so you'll be out either way. :(

If I wasn't in the process of moving, I'd offer to pick it up and properly pack it for shipment to you.

Nah - cost to ship back is 100% free. UPS, FedEx, even the post office allow you to refuse a damaged shipment. That being said, if you are having it delivered somewhere like a residence where they might just leave it on the porch that is a different story. I have everything delivered to my shop which is open and staffed all day. If it is rattling and sounds shattered etc inside you can even cut the tape open while they wait and then refuse it. :D

Ah, I miss having a physical business with a regular delivery driver. Yeah, much better situation than the old 'drop off at a residence'. I think you'll be fine in that situation. :)

I snagged two of the WD Red 1TB drives. I've been meaning to fill up a 2 bay NAS in RAID 1 for a while for an off-site backup, and just needed the drives. This deal was great. Thanks!

So since I found Fry's having a deal on a D-Link switch, I thought I'd check the outlet to see what stellar deals were there.

nice finds SamirD

If you need a 230V UPS, this Eaton 1500VA one is a steal at $47. I would pick this up locally as I've had almost every UPS I've ever gotten from CDW heavily damaged in shipping (I had to eat them too):
https://www.cdw.com/product/eaton-5s-global-1500va-tow-208-230v/5364438?pfm=srh

This is simulated Sine

Another one at $84. Probably won't drop any more since it's msrp is 2x the one above:
https://www.cdw.com/product/eaton-5sc-1500g-tower-208-240v-bstk/5364762?pfm=srh

This is pure Sine

https://www.eaton.com/us/en-us/prod...er-ups/eaton-5-series-ups-overview.html#MODEL

Strange how they're 230V but have 5-15 instead of 6-15.

Thank you! Good points on the Eatons. (y)

And I should point out this one for those that need a really, really good sine wave unit. It's only 330va, but is avr and designed for medical use so the tolerances are all that much tighter. Normally goes for $140 something, and it's now down to $79 and I think there's one more drop in it before it hits liquidation:
https://www.cdw.com/product/tripp-330va-ups-avr-medical-120v-twr/5363666?pfm=srh

I actually picked up it's higher va model last week after missing out on a 2tb enterprise class drive I didn't pounce on.

Samir - thanks for finding the good stuff. I - and others - appreciate your efforts. I cannot sift through CDW with any efficiency, so I don't do it.

You're welcome. (y) Finding deals is calming for me, so for a long time, I only could take advantage of something I needed. But now others can too and I'm glad it's helpful.

I also peruse provantage's open box and techforless as well as a few others, but there's more deals regularly at cdw than any place else that I've found.

Ditto on the thanks.

So, should I be pissed off? I ordered 2 of the WD Red 1TB drives. With shipping and tax, $74 for the pair. I got them today, and they were in small brown boxes marked B-stock. I opened them up, and the drives were in their anti-static bags, opened. The drives have clearly been installed, as they have scratches all over them. I mean, wtf? What should I do? I thought these were new. I could have purchased a 2 pack of used one off ebay for about $60.

SamirD, I'm not mad at you, but where did you get this:

"CDW Outlet items are brand new, factory fresh but are either open box returns or clearance. They have full factory warranties just like new items."

I'm ready to call them, but want to make sure this verbage is somewhere on their website for ammunition.

Also, I just checked them and they have a build date of Jan 2018. Not that it means anything, because I guess they could have been on a shelf for a while, but I doubt it.

Thanks.

This is pulled right from their main outlet site...

What’s in the CDW Outlet?
We only include an item in CDW Outlet if it falls into one of the following categories:

• Customer return
• Damaged packaging
• Missing user manual
• Minimal cosmetic damage
• Overstocked item
• Demo item
• Refurbished item

We will never sell items that are defective, have more than minimal cosmetic damage or are missing needed parts.

Maybe the "verbage" was changed at one point??

It depends. If you expected brand new unopened, then yes. But that's typically the way I've received my drives as well (with not much packing material I might add),and they're still humming today (all 6--HGST 2TB enterprise drives with the 5yr warr). I've had a wdc RE enterprise I got the same way fail after a year in production, but wdc replaced it no problem once they verified the purchase and the replacement drive I is still under warranty and purring away. If you're worried about them being 'used' drives, they're not and you could check a crystal disk and see how long they were run, if at all. I bet someone ordered them to install in some sort of enclosure where it was expecting <1" drives or something like that, hence the scratches--essentially just cosmetic damage.

If the scratches are heavy and if you think they'll affect long term performance, you can return them as the outlet items do have a 45 day money back. On the other hand, they also still have the full factory warranty (unlike anything used), so can install with little fear if they work fine after the initial install. (I'll usually run the short smart test just as a quick check and then just the data copy to the newer drive from the older one will vet any issues, and I've never had any.)

So the pro of what you got is that it does have a full factory warranty. You can call them and do a return for sure, but I'd at least try them out and see if there's any issues, and if so, just get an rma from wdc instead since you'll get a drive with warranty that way too. For me the $14 is worth the warranty, but you may feel differently.

As far as where I got what I wrote, it's pretty much on the website and from my own experience. Many of the items can literally be unopened like an EVGA 850 G2 modular I picked up where the plastic wasn't even torn. Companies will order multiple quantities of items or a one-off and they know it's wrong the second they get it and send it back unopened. That's the condition of a lot of the stuff I've gotten over the years. Or they can be opened like the drives you got. But in any purchase, you will have the factory warranty like a brand new item so if something goes wrong it's not like ebay or any other used item even though the prices can be similar. And then there is the 45 days too. I find the cons pretty minor compared to the savings off new.

Yep that's the conditions, and what they don't specifically say that I've learned from experience is that 'customer return' can many times be 'customer looked at the box and decided to return it' so the item will literally be brand new. Damaged packaging can be the same thing (which is probably what the $700+ ups I just got for $<100 was as there was a torn corner on the box--ups was pristine and never even unpacked). Missing user manual would indicate that it would be open-box, minimal cosmetic damage would be the same. Overstock items would be unopened and brand new as well as refurbished items because I know CDW doesn't refurbish in-house. And demo item is again an open-box.

So just going over that list, you've got a solid chance of getting something that has never been opened. And depending on the price you've got the opportunity to get something for a steal--and with no risk since you can still return it for 45 days and it's covered by the manufacturer's warranty. It's why I think outlet items can be good deals and post them here.

Thanks for the response, and a big thanks for taking your time to find us these deals. I really appreciate it.

I'll throw these into a PC tomorrow and do a scan on them to see how much they've been used. I'll report back :)

I hate that you weren't happy with them initially, and think you will reconsider once they come up clean. :) I actually only buy drives from the outlet anymore since I've saved so much in the last few years and have had zero issues. :)

Found this MSI B360 motherboard for a pretty steep discount from the usual $100 or so at $59:
https://www.cdw.com/product/msi-b360-a-pro-atx-mb-lga1151-bstk/5404864?pfm=srh

It might drop one more time, but I think that will be it before it's liquidated. Io panel and cabling might be missing as others have gotten them that way, but there's also been cases where it was basically brand new. Either way, since it is sold as full factory warranty you should be able to just call up msi and tell them to send you the missing stuff since it wasn't in the package.

Samir, where are you bro? Been watching for CDW deals...?

I think they make some price mistakes too - and if they do on the Outlet items, they do not honor them.

I bought this https://www.cdw.com/product/HP-SB-400-G4-I3-8100T-500-4-DOS-BST/5379281? for $203.99 along with the 230V UPS. The UPS shipped and showed up in perfect condition. Then I get an email saying that the HP mini desktop was out of stock and the page at the same time changed to discontinued. But they magically had another with identical specs for $350. Rep emailed me and said sorry the one I bought was out of stock. I replied that no it's not, you have the same one for $350 on the Outlet now so just send me that for the price I paid. He never replied. I'm 99% sure they marked the one I bought as discontinued and they made a new listing for the same one. lol

Been in moving hell. Wife got a job on the other side of the country and started a month ago and I've been trying to do the move.

This is interesting. I've seen some ridiculously low prices on stuff ($200 enterprise drivs for $40), so I don't think that is the case. Another scenario is that someone bought your unit right before your order was filled (which does happen), and at the same time another one became available. I don't think they'll play with the outlet pricing as they just want it gone.

That being said, if the price is currently $350, just keep watching it and it will come back down to 203.99 (unless someone buys it). I'll miss a hard drive deal and see a couple of others in the pipeline and then will pounce when the price hits the deal price again.

I wish I would have had time to watch the stuff I was keeping an eye for myself--like the wd blue 2TB sata sdds that were under $200 and had 5yr warranties--I was going to swap out all the production hard drives with these--oh well. There's always another deal in the outlet!

Like $23 for a 500gb wd black hd:
https://www.cdw.com/product/wd-blk-500gb-7.2k-sata-6g-3.5in-64mb/5385932?pfm=srh

I guess I just need to check often is all then. The i3 8100 with the ram, HDD, and the tiny PC bits were well worth the $200. Just not much more than that.

The most important thing to remember (besides taking shipping costs and tax into account before getting excited!) is to not bother with anything other than Availability: In Stock on the product page, not the search results page. If it says anything else (e.g. Availability: 3-5 days), it means someone else already bought it and it will get canceled (possibly stay in limbo for a while first). Each outlet item is assigned a unique CDW part number and they will not substitute an identical (higher-priced) item for your purchase.

I'll be waiting for our hero Samir to come back to let me know what I need to buy.

That's funny, I've been watching it for two weeks and just put it into my cart before coming to this thread, but $15 shipping kills the deal since I have a local Microcenter.

Is this a decent Motherboard? Looking at moving to a Ryzen setup and this is very tempting.
Depends on the processor if it's a 2700x go with b450 if it's a 2600 or lower then it's not a bad option to mess around with. Personally I prefer the b450 boards even though they cost a little more.

I was going to grab it so I could put my old cpu and ram in and sell it (along with a collection of other parts) as a complete system but $19 shipping(no tax) makes it meh...

Yeah I saw some refurbished b450 boards on Newegg for around 50. So I pulled back on ordering it. This board she' look really nice though.

This is very, very important advice. I was watching a Netgear 24 port gigabit switch for $45 and the next day it went from in stock to 5-11 days. :banghead: It either hit liquidation, which means the $45 price was killer or someone else got that killer price. I hope it was the latter. The liquidation stuff usually doesn't end up back anywhere I can find it. :(

I'll be waiting for our hero Samir to come back to let me know what I need to buy.
:D I'm glad others helped with the motherboard because with my old stuff I have no idea what one should get. I'm just now upgrading to lga1156 and lga1155.

In other news, I've had to move from the Chicago area, so I'm stuck with the shipping like everyone else now. :( And right after my nightmare move that didn't go smoothly at all, my mom passed away.:cry::cry: So that's why I've been gone. Still going to be hit or miss as I have lots to do in terms of home, work, and my mom (as well as caring for my dad), but I will be popping in here with some deals as a break from everything.

And that brings me to this beauty--a startech thunderbolt 3 dual 4k monitor dock with gigabit and usb 3.0 that works on both Mac and PC. It's usually $200, but stilling at $154 in the outlet currently, and it's probably got at least one more price drop left in it:
https://www.cdw.com/product/startech-thunderbolt-3-dock-dual-4k/5500347#PO

And if anyone has an itch to move up to 10Gb ethernet, even in baby steps of 2.5Gb and 5Gb, then these startech NICs that normally go for $150-200 are a steal at just $90 each. I don't think they'll drop any lower than this too.
