Horizon Zero Dawn

wow that's the GOTY version with the DLC included...steal of a price (if it ever comes back in stock)

I got the GOTY a few months back for $9.99. If people miss this one just wait, it will be that price again soon enough.

The game is easily worth more for those who can't wait. Loved it.

Haha so this game is so good it got my dad back into video games. He use to love turok on the n64 and loves scifi so I figured this game might be right up his alley and I was totally right. He was up till 3am playing horizon last night and has about 15 hours into it already lol, I think he's considering buying a PS4 which would be amazing since he hasn't owned anything since the n64

I'm considering replaying it, and I virtually never do that with games.

I definitely plan on replaying it at some point, which would be for 3rd time since I replayed it when the NewGame+ patch came out not long before the DLC did and on the hardest difficulty for the Platinum trophy (which I've only cared to Platinum this and God of War so far). But it's hard to know when that'll be when I'm still trying to get through RDR2, the Yakuza games, RE2 remake soon, Days Gone this spring, and the newer Tomb Raider games at the moment as well. Horizon is definitely my favorite newer IP from the last several years and I absolutely cannot wait for the continuation of this story.

I noticed the price dropped at Wal-Mart to $20 and, I'm going through some shit so playing games that keep my brain engaged are what I need. I just beat FarCry Primal, and needed another open world game, so I picked this up last night. Haven't played it yet but I'm looking forward to playing after work tonight. After reading through this thread, the bar is set pretty high.

Hope it's the complete game with the DLC then, cuz it has been on the PSN store several times now for $15-$20 for the complete edition (or whatever it's called). Every time I see it on sale, I try to recommend it to friends to play, but most of them are filthy casuals who only play multiplayer shooters or are just broke, lol.

When the PS5 launches, now that we know it'll have BC with PS4 games, I'm def going to go back and play this again with hopefully improved visual or framerate, not that I felt either was lacking on the PS4 Pro, but just as an excuse to play through it again while I wait for the sequel. The game actually feels surprisingly smooth at 30 FPS, because it has pretty much perfect frame pacing and amount of motion blur IMO. I almost expect them to release a remastered version on PS5, which I would totally buy too.

Yes, it's the complete edition. I played it last night, and aside from the cheesy montage of young Aloy growing up, I'm enjoying it. I am about to start "the proving." The story is good so far, and the gameplay is solid.

I just beat the main story last night, I put in over 50 hours so far. Now I have to play the Frozen Wilds.

The story was fantastic, some of the dialogue cheesy. The game is solid, it's fun, gorgeous, and I like it almost as much as God of War.

I recommend playing NG+ on ultra hard now that you have the upgraded equipment, then doing Frozen Wilds when you get to that area again. I had a blast playing through the game again like that, then I Platinum'd it as well (think that was the first one I did on PS4 too).

yea and what has guerrilla games been up to? Please release the sequel soon

They're definitely working on a sequel, but I wouldn't expect it out for another few years on the PS5. I highly doubt it'll be a launch title.

I'm going to put it on hold, I put over 62 hours into it. All that's left is to finish the trials in The Frozen Wilds. I've done all the missions, and side quests. I'll pick it back up later and do new game +, but I'm kinda burnt out after so long.

I started Days Gone last night. So far, that game is fun, and a nice change of pace, from robot animals to mutant zombie things.

That's how HZD (and every other AAA title) should be experienced, and luckily the PS5 has the horsepower to do it. Hopefully the sequel will be 60fps out of the box, or at least a toggle a la Demon's Souls.

I played this on PS4 pro traded in my disc and PS4 pro when I got a PS5. Short version... Buying again for $20 complete edition.... After demon's souls I'll play this again.

If you don't want complete edition, you get this for free with your ps5.

I have the game on PC and PS, haven't played it yet. Might play on PS5 now that they have 60fps.

I think this game serves very well as a cough/controller style of playing. It is honestly one of my top favorite games. I played it to full on a first go around, so I did not really want to replay it to finish collecting, but will plan to play it again before the new game comes out.

I played it soon after it launched and it was the first game I played on my PS4 Pro. Played through it twice, back to back, 2nd time on Ultra hard and NG+, and then couldn't wait for the Frozen Wilds DLC, which was also great and a bit more challenging than the main game areas and enemies.

I bought it again on sale on PC a few months ago, but been trying to play through my backlog of other highly rated games. I figured if they hadn't patched the game for PS5 by then, it wouldn't happen. But of course now it does. 😏

Played it for 20 mins or so on PS5 this morning though and it's definitely a locked 60 now and still looks great other than the hard 2X AF line on the ground like 10 ft in front of Aloy. I'm tempted to do another playthrough on it now though because like Viper said, this is a great couch and controller game. I prefer using a controller for most 3rd person action/adventure games as well.

Does it come with frozen wilds for free ?
They offered that upgrade for free earlier in the year, so i assume so. Hard to find out since all google results point to that. If it says complete edition it should have it. Have fun with that first fight.

I didn't see it offered as free on the ps store. I actually bought it for $20 haha oh well it's cool I guess I bought it twice. Had the disc previously.

I played on PS4 Pro (30FPS) and then PC (100FPS) and the PS5 patch makes it feel very snappy at 60FPS. Also, not sure if it's just the better PS5 hardware, but loading times seem to have significantly improved after the PS5 patch. My PS4 had an SSD, so it wasn't terrible, but loading was rough compared to the PC version. I don't remember noticing a loading time improvement on PS5 when I played it in the past, but I could be wrong. It just seems like the patch made some noticeable difference in load times on PS5, it's much more like the PC loading times now.

Frozen Wilds is terrific if you like the main game. It's pretty damn challenging, too. That's definitely one of the nice things about the PC version - FW is baked in.

I'm early game still, and I've come across some larger enemies that I'm not sure how best to deal with.. playing on Very Hard btw so they hit HARD and I feel like I'm definitely not dealing with them efficiently i.e. exploiting their weaknesses. For example I just did the first vault thing (forgot what it's called) and fought one of those fire belching machines.. the scanner shows the big sacs of goo as a weakness and the icon looks like armor. How am I supposed to deal with that? Same thing with scrappers, they have components on their back that have that same icon.

I did eventually kill them with lots of arrows and melee attacks but clearly it's not the best way to go about it.

PS5 version looks better than PC. You can see the colors look better and also the depth of field effect is missing on Windows.

I'm not sure what weapons you have access to at that point, but Tear arrows are great for destroying armor, and the sling has some extremely powerful ammo. I tend to go with sling to freeze them and then do tons of damage with the bow on the weak points.

This video helped me out a lot when I started - be aware that there are some spoilers for enemy types if you go farther in the video (it basically covers all machine types in the game).

ahhh I didn't get far enough to get the tear arrows, so that's why that icon was so confusing for me!

I'm pretty sure you can hit the weak points on the fire breathing ones without Tear arrows, though. Aim for the big green sacs or the green hoses on their chin area. Fire Arrows are especially effective from what I recall, you can cause them to explode and burn, dealing more damage.

I think the PC version still looks a bit better with the AF being able to be set much further out so there's not that hard AF line right in front of Aloy as you're running around and see the textures go from blurry to clear. That AF line catches my eye and distracts me occasionally on PS4/5 still. Alex mentions it in that video too. Otherwise, I think their pretty similar.

fire arrows did squat, and the sac things didn't have the fire icon indicating a weakness. maybe it was this specific machine located at the end of that first cauldron?

IIRC on some, fire didn't work well but explosive sling shot / tripwire rounds work better. Less range but in general if you get into trouble explosive rounds work on everything. My go to "crap I am in trouble" weapon is to pull out explosive sling shot rounds.

From memory, I kept using the arrows that don't do damage, but would knock huge chunks of armor off of enemies. From there, I'd close in and start swinging/rolling. I played the game almost like a Souls game when possible. You can't really do that in the Frozen Wilds (or in the challenges), but it works pretty well for the first 2/3 of the game.

I would also prioritize getting the 2 and 3-shot arrow stuff as soon as you can, it really helps with dealing a lot of damage quickly if you want to go with mostly using arrows.

Also, as I've said a few times in this thread now; unlock the slow-mo while jumping and aiming perk ASAP. This ability almost breaks the game if you keep loading up 3 arrows onto a decently modded bow and can hit those weak spots while bunny hopping in slo-mo constantly. They should have put some sort of cool-down on that ability, but they didn't, so enjoy the exploit I guess.
