Microsoft to Release a Disc-Less Xbox One in 2019 for $199 [RUMOR]

Seems they’re learning. You can’t just shove always online features down consumers throats. You just...ease them into it. Slowly optionally remove features. Then go full apple and call yourself courageous.

It's like boiling a frog. If you slowly turn up the heat, it will be too late by the time it's cooked.

Lower production costs also.

Don't you mean higher profit margin ? They don't discount like they should for digital only.

I got my XBOneS as a 4K blu-ray player first, game machine second....so this new iteration is a no go for me....what are the storage capacity options?

Same features more money, less features same money. It's the American way.

I know quite a few people who buy a game at release, play through it in a week, and then sell it on Facebook recouping 1/2 the cost, or more. If Microsoft goes full retard next gen and completely removes it, these people will be upset to say the least.

But but but... Then Microsoft will release an "add-on" disc drive to $ell you (ala HD DVD) and call themselves heros!
This. I am digital everything, except games. Why? Because if the resale.

I haven’t touched a music cd in a decade.

So i checked and it turns out that my Xbox One X does have a disc drive, who knew?...
seriously , i cannot be bothered with discs , price for games on digital is usually cheaper ( i never buy used anything) and having so many games just installed on my Xbox is too much to pass on.

agree, it's more of a hassle keeping track of the discs then worrying about whether or not i'll lose access to a game years down the road even though i'm sure i quit playing it long before that ever happened. i'd actually be interested in buying this if it's selling at that price and is in fact an X model, i don't need a bluray player anyways.

If this is the future then consumers need protections under the law. Like being able to install and play a game for the rest of your life or the life of the console. I'm nostalgic, I still play games from the 90's. Also we need protections from being banned. I don't GAF if you talk shit or even if you're a cheater, you bought the game, they need to refund your money. This protects people from being falsely banned and m$ screwing people out of their money. EXAMP: I'm not down with being banned for teabagging because at some point m$ decides its offensive.

I wouldn't mind so much as I never sold back my games.

BUT I've bought digital content before and had Microsoft delete the product so I can't download it again. Ie Axel and pixel

Great, digital only so Microsoft can take the pressure off the purchaser to decide whether they still own the game or not!

It’s not like they’ve ever forced change or removed features in paid products without giving you an opt out choice (of the change, not the product).

I prefer my products bought, not rented.
Owning is a privilege, not a right. :p
I haven't had a console since my original Playstation. It was a simpler time. I'm old. :(
Last consoles I own was the Dreamcast and PS2, once I got my first PC, I lost interest in them over time.
I wonder if they will start selling physical copies like this?

WTF, never seen that before.

I wouldn't mind a disc-less updated console to replace our original Xbone (VCR edition). I'd prefer to see a $120-150 price range versus the $200 one. I would also like to see some way to authenticate disc-based games for use on the disc-less console via your home network (ie: linked to an Xbox with the disc in its tray).

But, yeah, now with network transfer and the bulk of games being downloaded anyway - I'm ready for a disc-less console.

Front of that thing looks weird with no disk slot.

It's the Tesla Model 3 of the Xbox One lineup.

I buy games on PC but on consoles I usually borrow them. Getting harder and harder to do when more and more of my friends go digital. On the other hand, these days I usually don't have the systems either, so instead of borrowing games I borrow entire systems (or play them at friends' houses), which have the games installed on them. So less convenient but in the end I am not truly screwed. PS4 and XB1 don't run any games from the discs, all disc-based games get installed to the HDD. Way fucking faster to install games from a disc than from the Xbox Live network (or PSN), which is always slow and never comes close to using the full speed of one's Internet connection, unlike services such as Steam. The idea of a console without an optical drive is kinda weird, but in this day and age I can't see it being a huge deal. If it provides a cheaper option then so be it. I wonder how long until this becomes the norm. If that happens, retail stores that sell video games are gonna get fucked.

what do storage options have to do with anything? You have to install disc based games anyway just like the PS 3 and PS 4 so disc or no disc you need the same amount of space regardless of what option you go with. The disc is only a way to verify you own the game, nothing runs off it.

The beginning of the end for Gamestop and Electronics Boutique. They'll go the way of the Dodo and Blockbuster Video.

PC Gaming has been essentially disc-less for almost a decade. Despite the FUD, they didn't fight it.

I doubt console gamers will make much of a fuss when next gen consoles go completely disc-less.

they should offer plug&transfer in their stores...i would utilize that service for those 50gb ++ games

Honestly I think anyone who goes 100% discless is a fool, but meh whatever floats their boat. Personally I like keeping my options of choice. I'll buy pure digital when the price makes sense, but I want a disc when it doesn't. Want to charge the full price tag and not offer me any discount for losing all ability to install with no internet or resell? Then I'm not buying the game. This whole thing just strips away your choice as a consumer to be smart about your purchases and frankly anyone that just blindly supports it is foolish.

Ok think about it.... download only means it better have a good bit of local storage
