Maybe the motherboard tray screws in and is removable to have 16 gpu and no motherboard rather than 8 and a motherboard.
That's a good idea, that way it becomes modular for motherboards that can handle more than 8 GPU's. Might not even need to be a tray if the riser standoffs are perhaps slightly shorter than the mobo standoffs. Are riser standoffs fairly standardized in spacing?
All of the common risers have the same 4 holes for mounting

I ordered some 200cfm 120mm Delta fans for my 4U Rosewill build, also ordered some 80CFM 80mm Delta fans for the rear... it's gonna fuckin loud, but it's gonna be a damn wind tunnel.
I recommend just going with Delta fans if you just want heat removal and aren't worried too much about some noise

For us "noob-idiots" (I use it endearingly), is there a clear guide to adding in older algorithms to NiceHash legacy? E.g. there's a sgminer (I'm just having fun with my already-owned 280x) designed for nist5, but it's from 2014 and not a part of the software suite. I haven't been able to parse out exactly how the configuration files actually work. Anyone have a good guide?
* Nist5 on GCN may not be actually profitable versus dagger+lbry, but I'm such a minor (miner?) player that it's as much for my own entertainment as anything else.

What I've done on some of those is I've just replaced the default miner files with more preferable versions of the same miner. When you run the benchmark for each algo, just make note of which folder it's using for that miner. Then you can just drop in your preferred versions and re-run the benchmarks.
Have you found your 'preferred' versions make a notable impact? If so, on which miners specifically?

The only one I can remember off hand, specifically, is ccminer KlausT cuda9 for Lyra2REv2. That got me about 8% higher hashrates vs. the default version.
I see tpruvot released a new version a few days ago that's supposed to improve Lyra2REv2 performance, so I'll have to give that a shot and see if it's any better. nist5 is so freakishly profitable right now, though, that I'll probably just let it ride for the timebeing.
ccminer Alexis-1.0 is the best I've found for nist5.
I'll have to check my notes at home when I get a chance and see which other ones I switched out.

Jeez. I hope they seriously are not having potential supply issues with that particular 4U model. Last thing we need is a mining crush/shortage on a... 4U case. LOL

I appreciate the suggestion, and it's a good thought worth more carefully pursuing. I tried messing around with older miners that were compiled for nist5 and adding them in the bin_3rdparty (or whatever it's called, I'm at work right now), but nothing seemed to be working right, sadly. I'll keep looking around. Rebenchmarked the previous higher performing options after undervolting my card (which really just bought me power/heat headroom), and saw a tidy boost in productivity.
Yes definitely, Nist5 is very profitable right now on a 1080ti and not included in the 2.0 client for some reason.

Yea get the legacy client for sure. Its good to have both clients just so u can switch between them from time to time.
Aslo like draksia mentioned Nist5 is kicking ass and its legacy only at the moment with NH

I have 2 1080 ti and legacy does make a difference. After 2% fee I get aroundn$19-21/day. Every morning it's enough to send to my coinbase wallet. Make sure to enable Nist5 and use precise benchmarking.

to anyone in the market for cards, pcpartpicker seems to have a pretty good response to inventory. I looked on their last night which pointed me to the 1080s amazon had available. 1-3 week wait but sold and shipped by amazon.

Thanks but just went thru it. Out of Stock or $1200.00 for a GTX 1070. Like everyone else out there I will have to wait. Someday there may be some stock. But don't hold your breath. Nvidia is not in a rush to produce more cards right now.

I was seeing $12 to $17 today in the V2 program. Now I'm seeing a constant $22, and it has been crunching Nist5 for the last 30 minutes.
I only did the standard benchmarking. Does the precise make a difference on the pay rate?

I went ahead and only enabled Nist5. I saw it randomly switch over to LyraRev2, and plummet the pay rate from $22 down to $14 for a few minutes.
Wish I had got into this mining stuff earlier.
Some people seem to game Lyra, with very high pay but very short orders, you can try lowering your switching time or just disable it. Blake also seems to have this happen as well.

Don't use the latest NHL 1.8.6 build. I tried it and saw an average of 15-20% less hash rate. Even after benchmarking. Went back to 1.8.2 and no more issues.
It's like the miners or NHL itself in version 1.8.6 is not reading my hardware information correctly. Intensity settings are way off, too many threads started for CPU mining. I'm not the only one with that issue.
good to know, I was hoping someone would chime in with the scoop on 1.8.6. I've been waiting to hear if it made an improvement but until then, not fixing what isn't broken.
Yeah, the 1.8.2.0 Pre 2 is more feature rich that 1.8.1.6, so I'm definitely staying with that. Hopefully Dillon will release 1.8.2.0 or 1.8.2.0 Pre3 soon.

Most of the time my rigs stay on Nist5, but occasionally they will switch to Skunk or Blake2S and actually do even better than on Nist5. Occasionally one or two GPU's on a rig will decide to mine Equihash for a bit. Like this guy here:

I haven't noticed it taking too long. definitely not several minutes.
What GPU's and how many? I'm mainly seeing it on my large (9x 1080Ti) rigs.

That may be why then. I have 4 cards so it may take a couple minutes to go full tilt. Reasonably longer for you I suppose

After debating whether or not I want to go all in on this. Decided to buy 2 Titan Xp's. I know that I will have to dial back the power limit on these cards so they don't suffocate in each others heat. I figure each card will average about $10 a day. That's still $900 a month ($10,800 a year). Should get my money back from this purchase in 2.5 months. Worse case I can still turn around and sell the cards if the market tanks and at the very least break even. The great thing about this, is mining doesn't really care about PCI-e bandwidth at all. The final push to buying these cards was the thought that I have taken a wait and see approach to mining and so far have been regretting not jumping in earlier "If I had jumped in xxx months ago I could have made a lot of money". This time deciding to jump in now. Crazy thing about this is the Star Wars Titan Xp's at $1138 each are still cheaper than any 1080 Ti you can get your hands on right now (and good luck getting one at that). Cheapest I'm seeing on amazon is $1299 for a 1080 Ti. I also wanted blower style cards as my 1080 Ti is the MSI Gaming X variance, I figure having 3 aftermarket style cards would be worse than getting blower style ones. Also helpful that my PC is pretty much an open air rig already (Thermaltake Core P3 case).
End of the day the way I look at all of this is: At worst I'll break even. At best I'll make a nice pool of money equivalent to a part time job lol. My pc sits pretty much idling 24/7 as it is anyway, I hardly game on it anymore, spend all my gaming time on my Switch or PS4 Pro. Might as well put it to use.

After I made that post last night I switched things up and only disabled Lyra2v2. Idk just too much variance in pay with that one. People are gaming the system, and I don't want to be taken advantage of.
My pay graph is higher, so yay!

I partially agree with this -- except with the idea that Volta is potentially close.
Rumors and Titan V benchmarks put the Volta at extreme hashing rate compared to current 1080TI and Titan Xp performance. Like 2-3x faster.... (Titan V does ~80MHS on Eth vs. ~36MHS on 1080TI I just wish I knew how far out until volta mainstream availability.
Also - crypto took a big hit today, and has been lowering profitability hard the last couple days. My 1080Ti's went from $10 a day, to $6 a day. if we rewind a couple months 1080TI were making $2 a day.
If it goes back down to $2 a day - that Titan Xp will take a long time to pay off!!!! And nobody is going to be buying Pascal NVidia cards when volta is released (2-3x hashing rate - and way more efficient!)
Just be warned that Crypto can go down too -- in my six months of mining I've seen a 1080TI go from $8 a day to a $2 a day back to $10 a day (June 2017 to Jan 2018) It isn't a one way ticket for sure!
