Acer Predator XB1 27 Inch IPS 165hz @costco 599 GSYNC

If they are not shipping anymore what do you do if yours has issues? Do you deal with acer in that case or? I haven't had time to open mine, work offshore but what defects should I be looking for?

If they're out at costco, they wont be able to get you a replacement, so your options are to return it or replace with Acer. And Acer support is godawful, so I'd say your only option is to return it.

There's a few people who have had Acer damage their XB271s and then deny replacement. Also, they require you get a box to ship it back to them (original box is not acceptable) and a box that big isn't cheap.

Oh and as for the defects to look for,

Most people complain about backlight bleed but it's not a real problem. Just people who don't know what IPS glow is.

The real issues are display uniformity (one side red/yellow and the other bluish or certain areas much dimmer/brighter), color temp (whites look yellow), dust under the panel, and random defects like cracks or scratches on/inside the screen.

Wow acer is that bad? Knowing that I honestly would have gone with the Asus version...having the 3 yr warranty at costco is pointless if they can't replace it and your stuck dealing with acer horrible cs

Dont even think about it; if the only thing bothering you is light bleed then you are lucky. You can get much worse panels in this lottery.

Returned 3; it was awkward but they took it no problem. Walk in to service desk, say you want a return - state reason; they inspect package (and inside) to make sure everything is there and undamaged.. thats it.

I know some folks @ Wal-Mart who go into conniptions when dealing with the aftermath of returns. last month they took back a load of 60" 4K's, and refunded the customer.. wasn't till the boxes got to the back for return to source when they found out all 4 had a section of sheet-rock where the TV was supposed to be in the Styrofoam clam-shell ..

Fucktards @ the returns desk never even looked in the boxes....

I found it odd when i returned a tv two months ago that the walmart employees didn't even look at it.

I wouldn't worry about getting a replacement from Costco. They will just refund you if they no longer carry the item. Also the Toledo OH store has their display model left for $450.

Well I honestly don't want a refund....I want the monitor to work as it was intended with no defects lol

What are adjustments has every 1 done that are needed?

6-8 years ago Wal-Mart started a purge to reduce the number of long term 'associates'. With Stock, 401, and capping out their pay... Corp saw an opportunity to cut overhead by pushing people to the point they either cut back their hours to part-time, or quit entirely. 99% of personnel simply don't give a shit about anything any more, so they do the very bare minimum, and only when they absolutely have to.. its kinda sad.

  • Brightness: 28
  • Contrast: 50
  • Gamma: 2.2
  • Color Temp: User Mode, (R Gain 99) (G Gain 93) (B Gain 97)
  • 6-axis color was left at default settings and was not changed

Trend seems to be (from overclock.net thread) lower green the most, then red.

I.e. 97r/95g/100b

However you can end up with a bluer monitor like BIGGRIMTIM, its just not too likely.

Also try to lower them as little as possible. Your contrast ratio drops as you lower them.

Thanks for the reply guys. Did you guys think the monitor out the box is way to bright? My old monitor was a del and it seems way brighter almost hurts. I will try out your recommendation big thanks

Got 1. Will say this, the stand is a lot nicer than my gen 1 xb270hu ips (the bezel is also nice).

Here's the box with my 25lb cat

xb3cD3ph.jpg

Side by side with my older xb270hu (new on the left, old on the right).

mclMe9Jh.jpg

Immediate differences I've seen between the old and new

1 - Color isn't the same, even when the settings matched. Will mess with this more.

2 - Despite the stand being nicer, it does take a considerable amount more foot print. The lcd's actually are pretty close to being the same look wise despite the thin frame of the second gen

3 - 165 hz is easy as hell to get with a few button presses

4 - It's sooooo nice now having both computers on 144hz +. My old monitor was a BENQ 4k IPS that was beautiful, but you can feel a difference in fluidity and now yay it's fixed.

5 - Speakers on the new version suck Necrotic 18 year old cock....sounds horrible.

Actually compared to my old xb270hu the monitor was a bit darker...so I think it's personal preference on how you set it.

Is g sync enabled out the box or it needs to be setup? I played sum quake champions and wasn't sure if it was enabled. Maybe my eyes don't notice what g sync does lol

I believe it is set by default.. but its not a monitor settings, its in nvidia control panel (Display -> Set up G-SYNC)

Does g sync affect rts games as well? I'm trying to figure out what night and day difference it supposedly makes lol

Depends on your framerate. Personally, I don't think it does much. I do like the monitor anyway because its 165Hz, IPS.

If you are getting 165FPS+ (you should have v-sync enabled with nvidia control panel globally; yes - v-sync + g-sync should be on), it does nothing.

It's most noticeable ~60FPS.

So all g sync does is stop tearing? It dI'd seem alot smoother when playing fps. Actually the rts game also looked a bit smoother with no tearing. So I should enable v sync as well as g sync?

Its one of those things where it's not immediately impactful, but use it for a while and go to another system later and you start seeing the difference. The same can be said about 60hz to 144hz~165hz for some people. It took me a while to really notice the nitty gritty details, but now it's hard for me not to use a 144+ hz monitor in gameplay. I was actually playing better in my moba's and fps's with the faster monitor.

Yeah that might be it. In fps I noticed it felt way more fluid and I could not see any tearing whatsoever. Even in the rts game it seemed alot smoother to

I've noticed something odd and not sure if it's a defect or normal. When playing sc2 whenever I move the camera on the map I notice the ground sort of gets shiny/shimmers then when I stop the camera the map goes back to looking normal?
Just woke up with the monitor in sleep. When I started up the pc the monitor said no signal. No matter what I did nothing worked. When plugged via hdmi it worked fine. I decided to disable deep sleep and somehow it finally came on under dp mode...

re costco warranty -

You get 3 months to return it -
I am not sure the 2nd year warranty comes into play since acer offers a 3 year parts and labor on this monitor.

Dagnabit!

My local Costco has 8 in stock for $499. My buddy just agreed to buy my 9 month old Dell S2716DG (TN, G-sync 1440p).
I really want the X34, but man is that thing expensive! If they had them refurbished for ~$700 I'd buy one of those.

Should I jump at the opportunity to sell my Dell?
Should I buy the XB271hu from costco?
Or should I wait to buy and holdout for a refurbished X34?
New is pretty danged expensive at $1030.

Depends on how well your Dell is working. Color wise, even after playing with the settings, this seems inferior to the ASUS Designo IPS. The whites/grays in that are just more clear. But that has no G Sync or Freesync, 60 HZ, basic stand. Unless you're doing accurate color work, this Acer looks fairly nice. I have not used a calibration tool on either, for what it is worth.

Quality on these seems to be hit or miss, but that seems to be true for all monitors. Mine has annoying bleed on the lower right, but my ASUS was just as bad, if not worse, on the lower left. Aside from that, my Acer seems to look and work fairly good.

I was in the same boat regarding the x34 or the xb271hu. The $499 price point made up my mind for me. No regrets with my xb271hu.

Thanks! coupled with the fact that I only have a GTX 1070, I think I'll go with the xb271hu. I'd be worried that the GTX 1070 wouldn't do well at 3440x1440. $499 is a great price, and my buddy is willing to pay $480 for my Dell S2716DG (he doesn't know about the XB271HU sale, and I'm not going to tell him :)).

So that makes it a no-brainer, right? ~$70 upgrade (incl. tax).

I'm going to go get it after work.

Bump any one have the same issue I mentioned above?

Are you talking about the sleep issue? If so, no problems here. I am using DP of course, and can let my monitor go to sleep. Then move my mouse and it wakes up immediately.

I haven't had any wake from sleep issues, although I did read about some folks having to disable deep sleep. Mine is enabled and still seems to work fine. As for SC2, I don't have that installed anymore, but that type of issue seems more like a driver issue than monitor?

Anyways, I too picked one of these monitors up at Costco a few weeks back when they first hit $500. Haven't noticed any issues with backlight bleed or color uniformity. The biggest obstacle I have right now is getting used to the fact that it is so much smaller than my 30" monitor.

Also, played with the settings a bit now and went through a few recommended settings for Overwatch. I kind of looked forward to gsync and ulmb, but it seems the correct way to run a gaming monitor with a high fps game is to disable both gsync and ulmb. I guess for games you aren't getting 250+fps, this monitor makes more sense. I just need to find one I want to play and install it.

check out blurbusters.com as well, lots of settings optoins

What build dates are your guys monitors? I'm curious at how old the stock Costco is selling.

Absolutely false information, whoever/wherever you got that info you need to stop reading it. Sounds like the type of idiot tripe on some reddit subforum where they think windows 10 gaming mode will give them 50-100 fps boost in CS simply if they turn gaming mode on.

ULMB is the best for having absolutely minimal motion blur, but the trade-off is lower brightness.

GSYNC is great overall but adds a small amount of input lag.

GSYNC + Fastsync is the best combo if you are running a game at higher fps than the monitor's refresh rate and you want the least input lag.

The best thing about this monitor is the plethora of options you have based on your preferences.

I've been fiddling with my new XB1 (just bought it from Costco about 4 hours ago).
It has a build date of Oct-2016. I don't see any dead or stuck pixels. I think I won the panel lotto! The BLB is non-existent! It's even better than the S2716DG minimal BLB. Woohoo!

The colors are pretty good compared to the Dell S2716DG, as expected. It's very vivid. I downloaded a color profile from Reddit.
I am overwhelmed at all the menu options, as others have said. It's pretty neat because you can have custom user profiles as saved hot-swaps. Very slick.

it's definitely a great LCD for $500.

Not quite sure there is a site out there that has the absolute definitive configuration that you mention. Most sites are folks trying out each of the settings and picking what they feel works best for them. As for Gsync + Fastsync being the best combo for the least input lag, that is completely opposite of what they seem to imply here:
http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3303

Essentially gsync off and vsync off provide the least input lag. Lot of pro gamers using the zowie 24.5" 240hz monitor now as well which doesn't even have gsync. It's also a TN panel which a lot of folks would avoid like the plague.

So not sure how you can call my opinion on settings I've tried as false information and then end your statement with the best thing about the monitor is the plethora of options given your preferences... amazing.
