My plexiglass screen protectors showed up yesterday. I bungled the install on the first one, but the 2nd one worked fine. It's a tiny bit off-kilter (my fault), but not enough where I care. It took me a while to work the bubbles out, but once I did you can barely even tell it's there. They seem to be dust magnets, but are otherwise great. No difference in touch functionality and they seem durable.
I'd recommend 'em to other owners, especially at only $10 for 2 of them.

make / model ?

Yeah, I got mine for $11. Just make sure you give it 24 hours for the adhesive to cure. The heat from using the device will cause it to come off if you don't give it 24 hours.

I can verify that this case will hold the Switch, joycons, and the AC adapter. It's a tight fit, but it works. Because there's a padded barrier between the accessories and Switch, the fact that it's snug is okay with me.

At this point I'm pretty much set. The stuff wasn't cheap (Switch, Pro Controller, additional AC adapter, 200GB SD card, case, screen protector), but I don't think I'll need any more Switch stuff any time soon.

Something that might be nice for the Holiday season would be a large bundle containing a bunch of those things. At the very least a bundle with the pro controller, an SD card, and a case would be nice.

What are the best speeds anyone has managed to get via the Internet Connection Test? Is there any indication that it's not registering correct speed numbers? The best I've managed to get is something like 25/3 even though my actual connection is 180/28. Every other device reports at least 1/2 that speed if not exactly that much. Sometimes I only see single digits for up and down. I'm starting to get paranoid about MP games.

Are you using wired or wireless? I'm using wireless, and getting 50/10 off the Switch. With just my laptop using wireless, I get roughly 150/30, so there is some built in slowdown. I wouldn't get too paranoid though. Most games, your ping is a vastly more important number, as the amount of information you send and receive tends to be fairly miniscule. Remember, you'll be playing against people who your 25/3 is a vastly superior connection.

I'm wireless. I tried the wired adapter (same on from the WiiU) and it was pulling no better. My Switch is maybe 3 feet from my router. Hopefully this isn't something more serious.

What band are you using? E.g. I'm using 5 GHz.

I'm also on 5. I tested out the alternate 2.4ghz band and it's the same. Every other device (including 3 phones) don't seem to have an issue. I might try moving the Switch stand around when I get home and see if that makes a difference.

Got an in-stock alert for Walmart, went to buy it, and my card got declined. Two minutes later my credit card company sent me an automatic fraud prevention text, but by then it was sold out.

Awesome.

Just got another stock alert, for Best Buy this time. I bought it and went to my payment info and it had my old address tied to my BB card. I literally just moved last week on Friday and updated the billing address in the bank profile at that point, and the shipping address in my store profile, but this billing address on the card on the store site is apparently a third fucking address. By the time I updated it the thing was sold out again.

I'm done. I don't even like Zelda. :(

If not for Zelda then there is no point in owning a switch at the moment.

Pretty much this. I guess there's the Blaster Master remake and some old SNK King of Fighters games, but nothing worth buying a system for.

What system was there any really good launch lineup? I remember purchasing my DS, one of my favorite systems ever, and it was over a year before I really even touched it. I guess I see early purchasers as more having faith in a company. Now, whether Nintendo repays that faith has yet to be seen.

Yea but nothing really coming out this year other then rehash or indie games you can get on other platforms. New Mario looks iffy at best.

There's a pretty big thread about the Dreamcast having a great launch lineup. I'd say the PS2 and Xbox 360 had really good ones, too. It's hard to count the older systems (like the NES, SMS, and Genesis) but they launched with at least a dozen games including some major arcade hits.
The Xbox One, PS3, WiiU, and PS4 were pretty soft at launch, though.

Yar, DC has a great launch lineup. Pretty sure they had nearly all the genres covered (their sports titles were decent too).

I'd say the majority of console launches have fairly soft lineups, with most relying on a killer app or two.

Well, after the thrill of Zelda wares off and you apply some academic detachment to this machine, I think it is safe to say the hardware is disappointing at best. Essentially what we have learned is that this is nothing more than a stock Tegra X1 chip, which (1) does not make it significantly faster than the Wii U and (2) as is demonstrated in Zelda, is not capable of 1080p gaming with any authority.

The result is a machine that is utterly incapable of handling any kind of significant foliage or outdoor environments. A machine that has backward looking specs and not forward looking specs, and is probably every bit as obsolete at launch as the Wii U was before it.

It means that what we are seeing with Breath of the Wild is probably the best we will ever see from the system. That slideshow in the Lost Woods is damning evidence that the system cannot and will not be able to produce the type of experiences that the developers want to produce. It is an absolutely baffling mistake.

Nintendo has basically pulled a fast one on us fans, linking the launch of this system with Breath of the Wild, while selling us a system that is simply incapable of playing breath of the Wild at 1080p resolution. And the system is not cheap. To experience the system as intended you are looking at a close to $500 investment in the console, game, accessories, chargers, docks, ect.

I think that Nintendo was incredibly shortsighted here. All of they have done is proven, with Breath of the Wild, the inadequacies of the system. The software is a triumph and the hardware is an abject failure from a pure bench-marking perspective.

I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined that the system would performance WORSE while docked. Frame rates in Zelda at some points are so bad when docked that I am starting to wonder if I should have just stuck with the Wii U.

I actually think the Wii U, on balance, may be a better console. At the time it was launched, its capabilities delivered perfectly acceptable results with the software of its day. Now we have a console that is choaking on its own launch game.

Nor is the screen on the Switch very good, nor is the form factor very comfortable. In fact this may be the worst hardware Nintendo has produced.

If Zelda ran well, that would be one thing, but after playing through some sections it is readily apparent that the raw horsepower is not there and that Nintendo's software is going to be extremely limited during this console cycle.

And considering that the game is best experienced on a pro controller, I can't help but think those who are arguing that Nintendo should just make games for PS4 and XBOX are winning the argument.

I own a switch, Zelda is great, but it is not that great, and ultimately, I can't recommend this system at this price point. I don't know what, if anything, Zelda fans got out of the switch.

[Insert tired old "...but it's a portable!" comment]

Supposedly Gamestops are getting more in nationwide tomorrow.

repeat after me

"nintendo switch is a portable hybrid console, NOT a handheld"

MK8 will also be 1080p60fps, Breath of the Wild was NOT built from the ground up for the Switch, they tried to make the experience similar on both consoles and the end result made both versions look unoptimized and half-done ( where's the second screen inventory/map ? )

lost woods runs like ass even on 720p yes, but I'd still rate it a solid 9.5/10, GOTY 2017 easily, loving my copy so much !! http://imgur.com/a/YB7J3

I am sorry when you hit foliage like that and the game chokes that is a classic hardware bottleneck.

Mario Kart doesn't push the hardware. Great game, but it is a port from Wii U. They may do well with this system but this is not a significantly better console than the Wii U.

Seems the Switch is picky about angles with WiFi. In certain parts of the same room I pull 5-8MB while in others (often further away from the router) I get 25-30MB.
On the plus side, this item is cheap ($13) and I have 2 friends that swear by it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MYTSN18
One had the same issue as me and he never shows anything less than 30MB. It (obviously) only really applies to the dock, but it's worth having if your machine is docked most of the time like mine.

Anyone played splatoon 2 firetest?

Looks and feel great

Liked it. Will buy. Hopefully it plays better with the Pro controller than the pack-in gamepads.

Another hour coming up in 30 mins.

I haven't bought a system since the XBOX and Gamecube. I got a 360 a couple years after launch just for use as an extender.

I'm enjoying the switch. Sad that it probably won't last that long given the terribly limited hardware and wishing they had waited for the X2 or used a proprietary solution, but we'll see. Maybe they're planning on a shorter product lifecycle?

Less R&D cost, less cost to produce, shorter life cycle, more money?

I do not think that the switch will have a short lifecycle, for that it does sell to good atm and nintendo consoles are every time underpowered. I do not think that we will see high end graphics ever again on a nintendo console, but the games are still great and the new mario looks great, also fast rmx. I really liked fast racing neo on wiiu I would suggest it to everybody who loves f-zero and similar high speed futuristic, non realistic, racing games.

Exactly - I'm interested in BotW, but not for $500.
I'd much rather play Zelda or Metroid than another Mario title ever again for the rest of my life, but even those are kinda "meh" at this point.
This is Nintendo, this is what they do. You buy the console for their games, and that's it. Expect 3rd party support for another 11-23 months (at best), and then it'll be relegated to being a Nintendo-only system, and then you have to ask yourself if the price of entry is actually worth it.

For me I'm mostly interested in Mario Kart and Smash. Even though both are available for the WiiU, I tend to think the community will bail on the WiiU versions pretty fast once the Switch versions hit.
Zelda and the deluxe version of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo were icing on the cake, but not really anything that pushed me to go for it. Zelda's massive scope has been pretty nice, though. I like it more than I figured I would even if the graphics are lousy.

The cost of this thing is pretty outrageous, though. I feel that once all of the initial surge wears off we'll probably see Nintendo having to have more bundles to move units. I don't see them lowering the cost of the system, but they could definitely include more storage space (or a memory card) and some additional things like a case.

the deluxe version of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo
I'd buy it if it was released for PC, which I expect to happen sooner or later. This is Capcom, after all, and they've been supporting PC with their fighting games very well over the last few years.
Hell, if they release HD Remix without Violent Ken for PC, I'd buy it. One or the other's bound to happen soon enough.

Yup, I fully expect it will make the rounds on the other systems, too. I can't recall specifics, but I think Ono even said as much. The fact that they chose this (instead of a newer SF game of any sort) definitely shows what Capcom thinks of the Switch. Then again, if it sell well, it's probably a decent test gauge to find out if the Switch audience cares.

This. I cant understand why people cant accept that Nintendo systems are not for 3rd party developers. The Wii was a massive success and it still lacked 3rd party games. The ones that were released were crappy watered down versions that didn't sell for shit.

It's really quite simple. Nobody NEEDS another XBox or PS or even a PC. If you have one you have them all more or less minus this or that exclusive. It's actually nice to have a company doing their own thing. I'll never understand why anyone wishes Nintendo was more like the other companies.

Granted, if Nintendo just made software for the other systems, that would be ok, but we all know that's completely against their core values as a company, so everyone should just stop moping over it, and if you want their games, buy their hardware. You want crappy third party shovelware that's easily and readily available on every other system, then buy that system.

What's so hard to understand? If you want Naughty Dog games you buy a PS4. If you want MS exclusives from their internal or close-to studios, you buy and XBox. You can't get Halo on a PS4, so why should you be able to buy Mario on an XBox? If Nintendo can't or won't fully bolster their 3rd party support, I really don't see the issue. Grab it on the PC, XB, PS.

What really makes me laugh is the argument of having a single console especially on this forum. Just reading through this place, and many other places like it, "most" people seem to have multiple consoles AND a PC. People even have a PS4 and XBOne. So why should Nintendo be the one to bend what they're doing. Them getting more 3rd party support wouldn't hurt. I'm not against it, but I also don't see much value in it either.

That's the point. It isn't needed on the switch cause they have their own thing. You have 3 other platforms to choice from that will give you a better experience. I have never brought a Nintendo console for 3rd party games since the snes. Just for Nintendo games.

I may have mis-interpreted your post. Sorry if that was the case. Maybe we're saying the same thing.

People also overlook the fact that Nintendo does in fact have third party support from a couple decent Japanese studios that make some incredible games like Xenoblade. So while Nintendo may not receive generic CoD: 57 The ghosts of Guantanamo Bay, and the latest Mass Effect 69 Gay Love edition - They still have particular third party titles.

It wouldn't be as big of a deal if their recent systems weren't such a massive drop-off from the other systems from a technical standpoint. The Wii, WiiU, and now the Switch are literally like playing last gen games on hardware you just bought for the same price as the stronger consoles. That's where the big disconnect is. It isn't apples to apples the same as the other console exclusives. It's not like PS4 owners see Halo 5 and wonder if it's a 360 game. It's an exclusive they might not have access to, but at least it's current gen.
Plus, if you look at the games that Nintendo uses to sell systems (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Kart, Smash, Animal Crossing, Kirby, etc.), those aren't the games that are even utilizing the "special" features that Nintendo insists they need so much. That why (again) it's hard not to look at those games and wish they were on better hardware, be it Sony's, MS's, or even just the rough parity Nintendo used to care about. Nintendo has long featured quirks and gimmicks, but them basing the whole system around them isn't how they always did it.
