Dishonored 2

2016- Year of the severely buggy games

did Bethesda really not know these bugs existed before release?...I find that hard to believe...too many developers/publishers think it's acceptable to release games in a buggy state and patch it post-release...some bugs are normal but lately the state of some of these games is ridiculous...no wonder Bethesda recently changed their pre-release review policy...I think I'm going to re-play the first game now (Definitive Edition came with pre-orders) along with the DLC (which I never played before)...by the time I'm done in a few days hopefully Dishonored 2 will be in a much better state

Expecting Bethesda game being bug-free is like expecting three-headed monkey :) Bethesda games are usually buggy at launch (and few good months later) and if you are lucky, none of those bugs won't be game breaking - like it was in that Morrowind addon, that you could finish only with help of console codes.

And yes, Bethesda has created long time ago the most bugged game ever - Dagferfall, nicknamed Buggerfall. :)

The good news here is: Bethesda was strictly a publisher on this. Arkane is the developer.

We're at much higher ground here. ;)

I'm starting to think that they're offloading costs of QC to end users at this point. Like people are used to games coming out buggy, so maybe they just release these games like this to mostly apathetic masses and essentially use them as a test bed to fix up any bugs. I mean I read that article on Bethesda and it was so dry it was like they totally expected this to happen. Hell that's the vibe I've been getting from almost every new release lately.

To be fair, Arkane has a pretty good track record of putting out quality products. I still pick up Arx Fatalis once in a while, and can't help but wish their cancelled Half Life episode would have been like.

I got the game on Thursday but am waiting for a patch or 2 to hit before playing...too many reports of performance and graphics issues...in the meantime I decided to play the first DisHonored game again (all pre-orders came with a digital copy of Dishonored: Definitive Edition)...it comes with all DLC included (I never played any of the first game's DLC)...this time I'm trying for Low Chaos (Ghost might be a bit too difficult)...I'm playing at 4K resolution- 3840 x 2400 (with Nvidia DSR enabled) downscaled back to my native resolution of 1920 x 1200...I love the art style of the game...

Well, looks like my decision to stop pre-ordering is finally paying off. First No Man's Sky, then the new COD and now this shitty port with horrible performance.

This was going to be a day one purchase for me, and I almost pre-ordered it. Glad I didn't after reading the performance issues. Will definitely pick it up after a few patches are released.

That's a good read. Pretty much throws out any theories being touted about CPU bottlenecking. AMD cards really struggle in this game, and he may have something with that point on geometry throughput.

Amazing that going from ultra to minimum settings only give back 50% performance.

Daud's storyline is great and actually sets up the plot in Dishonored 2.

Also check out the PCGW: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dishonored

- Skip intro videos
- Stop bodies from disappearing
- Increase texture detail at larger distances (disable mipmapping)
- Change sprint/run from hold to toggle

I have an Nvidia Inspector profile that forces MSAA too.

I did have a random, fast CTD on me in game last night. No predictable cause.

I wonder why a Titan XP runs so well with this game, when a 1070 (and somewhat 1080) runs so much slower?
On my rig, at 1600p including sweetfx to sharpen textures with TXAA, it runs at 80-120fps with fastsync.
Not one crash, only 'bug' I seen so far is the 'adaptive resolution' that defaults to 75% every time you start the game.
Not sure I seen that much drop to a 1070 from a Titan XP before...

Just got done with the Clockwork Mansion best part of the game so far rescued that Anton Sokolov guy form Dishonored I didn't do the electric chair because I didn't know where it was.

Steampunk Matrix

I supposed they used IDTECH 5 just for cool stuff like this.

perhaps I'm lucky but I'm running an AMD card and not having any issues with the game, I'm using the 16.11.3 drivers.

I'm currently replaying Dishonored 1 and it's giving me a better appreciation of the game...I liked the first game but also thought it got a bit too much praise...I think I played it 'wrong' during my initial playthrough by playing it as a traditional fps and mostly killing enemies...this time around I'm going Low Chaos and it's a lot more fun...Arkane really nailed the stealth aspects and it's really the best way to play this game

I've played up to the final mission and am loving the game so far. Outside of an oversight on the Devs part that screwed up my "Clean Hands" run, I haven't really experienced any bugs. I'm on PC @ 4k with mostly Ultra settings, a couple "very high", using 980ti SLI.

I hoped this would live up to the hype, and I have to say, best game I've played since Witcher 3. Sorry for those experiencing bugs.

At least we will now be able to move on from Crysis.

Crysis actually justified its performance with graphical fidelity, though...

Not to say this game looks bad, but I don't see anything here that justifies the performance drops people are reporting.

Daud was a fantastic character. I hope to see him in this new game.

I am liking it a lot also. The only real issue I have was when I tried to use DSR, it basically switches to the mode, then a few seconds later takes down my video card. It technically doesn't crash but it turned off the monitors after I pressed yes keep the settings. So there was nothing left to do but press the reset button. Oh well no big deal I just wanted to give DSR a try. :)

But who was Daud? Forgot about Dishonored 1. Can't seem to remember that game for the life of me. I also went full FPS shooting on its ass and game was piss easy lol.
Got the best ending too :D

Having a good time so far, 5 missions in. hope they add sli support soon.

Performance has been good for me.

Been away for a week and came home to this game. Have only had about 1/2 hour to play, but performance is spotty for me at 1080p. It's great one second and shaky the next. Certain light sources and effects like fog/steam/smoke seem to be the common element.
Will probably just wait for some updates before going all in. The game's certainly playable right now, but I'm in no hurry. Seems like a good game to play during the Thanksgiving holidays.

I didn't end up getting to play this over the weekend at all. (got hit with a bad cold, and didn't move for a day and a half) I'll be a bit busy for most of the week, so I imagine there'll be a patch waiting for me when I get to play it again later in the week. It seemed to be working ok for me, but any improvement is always welcome. Hopefully that menu-mouse-button thing I was seeing is gone by then. :D

Daud is an Assassin for hire in the Dishonored universe. He played a roll in the storyline of the first game, and became a playable character in the DLC's. His story fleshed out the gap between D1 and D2.

Also, if you played High Chaos in D1 (guns blazing), you definitely did not get the best ending. Best ending is only possible with Low Chaos / Clean Hands.

Finished my first run last night. I won't spoil anything.

My run was with Corvo, non-lethal, undetected, low chaos. I succeeded at ghosting the whole game, but failed Clean Hands. Stats said 9 people died, and I've no idea who or when. I was being extremely careful, checking that every body said "unconscious" instead of "dead". Reloading if I even suspected an NPC had accidently been killed. That said, I think I know what happened. There are mild spoilers, so I'll tag the tips:

One of the missions where the Witches are the main enemy, if you choose to take out their local leader with the non-lethal alternative, it will render all her coven unconscious. Some of them are perched in high places like atop statues or in chandeliers, and can fall to their death.

Also, when dealing with Blood fly hives, you can use incendiary bolts, flammable alcohol and ether. Before setting an area on fire, make sure there are no unconscious bodies close by. Same applies to grenades, oil tanks, etc.

Other than that I'm starting my High Chaos run with Emily and will give my overall review when I'm done. Might post some screen shots later too.

stealth/non-lethal was not too difficult (in the first game) but going for the Ghost achievement was tough because not only could you not kill but you also could not ever be detected in any way and no bodies could ever be discovered...made it into a constant quicksave marathon which seemed a bit too tedious for me

You can get Ghost with bodies detected. It's just that you cannot be spotted and aggro enemies.

How long did your run take you? I went with Emily (ghost and non-lethal) this time around, as I feel like it's her crown to take back (and we all know Corvo is already capable). I just got to Karnaca docks (Steam says I've played for nine hours LOL) and my playtime in the save game is about an hour or so (gave up trying to find all coins in the first areas) and frames have tanked hard. Looking over at the whale on the docks, my previous 80-ish frames dropped to 40 or so.

I did also trigger a fight with the Grand Guard and taking on about seven or eight at the same time, the frames also went to hell.

I want to keep playing but the inconsistency is just bad.

(This happened no matter what I set the graphics settings to, and for a while I was on "Medium" across the board and didn't notice.)

Decided to send my unopened PC copy back to Amazon for a refund. Really don't want to support pre-orders for buggy games, and no point paying release price if you can't enjoy it fully at release.

Will pick this up on a Steam sale down the road, and with an upgraded gfx card installed.
