Star Wars: Battlefront Reboot

a lot of people on here are tired of his posts...I'm wondering how old he is because he sounds like some bitter old man always complaining about 'kids' these days and Reddit, fanboys etc...you literally can't make any skeptical or critical post without him coming on to scold you...want to pay less then full price for a game?...nope, DPI won't have it and will go on his rant about $5 Steam sales etc...tons of people on here are tired of his shtick yet he continues ad nasuem

His zealous optimism for this game at least balances out the bile and vitriol spewed in all the Star Citizen related threads.

On topic...

downloaded and ready to go...hopefully the beta itself will unlock at midnight tonight or sooner...Walker Assault on Hoth will be my main game

from what I read and the counter on origin, it unlocks tomorrow at 1PM EST.

Digital Foundry: Hands-on with Star Wars: Battlefront

The PC version dissected...In certain respects, Star Wars: Battlefront is the best looking game the Frostbite 3 engine has yet produced...the toolset is suitably expanded to make sure each map and weapon holds true to the source material - a product of its new physically-based rendering...that said, having experienced the PC beta code first-hand at a recent press event, it's also fair to say that certain aspects of its technology are pared back compared to DICE's Battlefield line...

Just started my preload for the beta, should be done in 15 minutes then I just have to wait eagerly to try it lol. Want to compare it against the PS4 version since that is probably what im going to buy it on due to rl friends all buying it on there, sucks being the only PC gamer in the group

Anyone played yet?

How do the lightsaber characters work. Are they like a vehicle of something?

Don't think beta starts till tomorrow (unless you asking for people's alpha experiences). I'm hoping its like battlefront 2 where its just a new character with different specials and attacks, the tank from L4D comes to mind as a good example as how it should be. Just a drop into a different character with different abilities who's job is to be a wrecking ball.

My internet net just got a 24 hours suspension due to copy right infringement at 1am this morning... Funny thing is I haven't infringed anything in a long ass time and neither has my wife... O well. Not playing today i guess

the beta started yesterday for people with Early Access codes...but for the majority of people it starts up tomorrow

i'm not at home so i can't check myself, can someone tell me what time the beta goes live? i vaguely recall it being Oct. 8th at 8am PDT?

seems like VRAM is not an issue with the game...my 970 should be fine (1920 x 1200)...sucks that they're using FXAA with no MSAA option but I guess compromises had to be made to achieve these performance numbers across a wide variety of hardware...my 6 cores should scale nicely as well which is always the case with DICE/Frostbite games

That's strange. Almost postive BF4 has MSAA.

I'm more of a resolution scaling kind of guy anyways. :D (Honestly I like to mix the two, but whatever.)

AMD always had good performance in BF4 so not surprising it'd do well in Battlefront. Maybe this will get them some sales.

Funny thing is I never had an issue with crossfire with BF4, but with SLI I had game breaking issues twice (Vsync stutter, then more recently massive slow downs on certain maps). nVidia and DICE were apparently pointing fingers at eachother, which helps the consumer none. I stay away from multiGPU anymore...

GO PRELOAD GO!
Must....................not..................preorder.................

Am i the only one thats not excited for this really ? looks more like BF4 with Star wars textures...

it's not BF4 at all...very little destructible environments, no squads/classes, no meaningful vehicle combat, no real weapon customizations etc...it's a more accessible BF set in the Star Wars universe with excellent attention to detail, graphics and sound design...it's pretty much what most Star Wars fans wanted

accessible is the new catch phrase for 'easy'...I was reading a review of the beta earlier today and thought this quote pretty much nailed it...

"deliberately uncomplicated in order to appeal to Star Wars fans rather than the shooter devotees who’ve played Battlefield 4 for 1,000 hours...I can sense it filling the Titanfall hole in my gaming—something I’ll play for 20 hours or so at launch, then sporadically throughout 2016, but perhaps not forever. This is one for people who just want to see an AT-AT storm towards Echo Base or take out a TIE Fighter in an X-Wing""

Well it looks like Battlefront (SWB) will be a little easier than Battlefield 4 (B4) to run.
Here is another look at B4 with AA except 4k which is w/o AA:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/R9_290_Vapor-X/9.html

Now SWB with image quality at ULTRA for all resolutions:
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_page...ta_vga_graphics_performance_benchmarks,5.html

FPS in order by 1080p/1440p/4k

R9 290 in B4: 68/42/23 *remeber, no AA (in 4k) in B4!
R9 290 in SWB: 80/61/33

780ti in B4: 80/48/26
780ti in SWB:78/56/31

R9 285 in B4: 47/28/na
R9 285 in SWB: 59/40/7 (2GB fail at 4k)

R9 390x in B4: 83/56/30
R9 390x in SWB: 88/67/37

A 7990 can do 34 FPS in B4 at 4k w/o AA, so I am hoping a pair of o/c'd 7970s can do upwards of 50 with similiar settings in SWB. The GTX 970 and 780ti in SLI will have no problem at 4k with settings maxed.
The game CAN use more than 3GB ram at 4k, but it doesn't look to hurt performance if their is only 3GB such as the 780ti. More than 2GB is a must for 4k and that is reasonable.

Not every Star Wars fan. I find it to be bland and uninspiring game play wise. ;)

I could see myself getting a kick out of it for a couple weeks and forgetting about it, probably for the best then that they kept the battlefront name.

It does, it just isn't called MSAA. In the BF4 menu:
MSAA = "Anti Aliasing Deferred"
FXAA = "Anti Aliasing Post"

DICE's FXAA implementation was always a little strange. In BF3 and BF4, I found anything higher than 2x AA post setting looked really blurry.

Those Battlefront benches are done on 2 maps completely lacking vegetation, one was Hoth which is almost entirely snow except the few indoor areas and the other was Tattooine which is all desert and rock.
The Endor map will be the real test. The BF4 benches you linked to give no indication if they used Multiplayer (more strenuous on the GPU), Singleplayer, or which map they used. Fortunately, the benches you linked can at least give you a ball park idea of how well things are running.

I really hope they added something that will enable friends to play together in this beta.

the Hoth assault mode really feels like you're living that scene from Empire Strikes Back...no other SW game has perfectly captured this feeling...whether it's a temporary high or a long term fix remains to be seen...looking forward to the Endor map in the final game...seems like each map has a distinctive theme (desert, snow, forest, volcano) which is a good move

Don't forget youtube videos never do games justice.

At least try the Beta, it's free.

that endor map would be hilarious if they had playable ewoks with primitive weapons.

So how many of the maps are going to be cqc cod like 8v8 maps? Why are they even in this game?

Yep, that is all I was trying to do with my efforts, which were greater than that of WCCFtech
(those guys basically snipped the graphs from GURU3d and posted it on their website)

Yes, and we could see how it would really happen. A squad of battle-hardened Stormtroopers mowing down hundreds of those fuzzy bastards.

Call up your ISP and tell them to fuck off.
