Windows 10 data mining has been caught

This kind of logic really makes no sense to me.

No matter how old the OS is, if it's capable of playing a game then, it'll still be capable of playing that same game in the future. On the other hand, as long as Linux remains as niche as it is, a large portion of future games will continue to not work on Linux. Basically, you have a choice between an OS that's no longer being updated that can play old games, or a system that can play a very limited selection of games.

What you just said is completely wrong. I used to play world of warcraft on Windows 98 and now it is completely not possible to do so. Why you would lie and spread misinformation is beyond me.

Only people that don't give a shit are non-gamers. You people play program manager far more than a computer game.

I have dozens of games, desktop and modern, installed across my Windows 10 machines. Got MSG V Phantom when it came out and it's run fine on my older gaming rig. How many games does this effect? Out of the over 13,000 titles for Windows on Steam are effected?

I have hundreds of games installed (over 300) on my Win8.1 PC and I know I have far more then one that require Securom and/or Safedisk. I suppose I am expected to just go buy the Steam version just so my PC is a tiny bit more secure? Nope.

I read today that Intel CPUs older than 2010 have a security hole in them, is Microsoft going to ban them too? Nope.

They are pushing the data collection to windows 7 and 8/8.1 soon if not already. I ran wireshark myself just to see if the OP was full of crap and to my surprise I got pretty similar results. The most disturbing thing is I already had disabled Cortana and set all my privacy settings to don't track/etc.

then maybe we need to start a thread on a hardware firewall, located next to your cable modem, that can filter on all outgoing traffic.

This is one of the positives of Win10! RIP stupid root kits for one game.

This is one of the negatives of Win10: The OS itself is now the rootkit.

Seriously. Securom/Safedisc are about 1/1000th as invasive as Windows is now.

Yeah I'm moving to Linux/FreeBSD for productivity apps. Will retain Windows for gaming / Netflix. Don't want the cloud effect hovering over my personal files.

Someone brought up games on older OS so embellished it and because new does not necessarily mean better. The issue applies to disk based games and not digital download games with Securom as far as I know. Doesn't matter how old they are, I still have Dos games from 1993 installed. I expect Windows OS to be able to play my full game library and not just some, Windows is not a console game system.

Microsoft should have never allowed this DRM on their OS in the first place and then there would never have been an issue. Once again the paying customer is the one to get shafted while the Pirates laugh in their faces. Of course they all lied and told us DRM would not cause issues. Then there were you apologists telling us we wore tin foil hats because we hated DRM. Vindicated once again and the apologists had their heads buried in the sand, as always.

Look at this dickheads response from the article I posted.

TimRobbins says:

"Thanks Microsoft, and good riddance. If people actually supported those awful DRMs by paying for them, you get what’s comin’ to ya."

Yea, let's blame the consumer for buying games with DRM, what a swell guy.

^ With the exception of having reasonable expectations for backward compatibility because of advancing hardware dropping older features, I agree.

Goddamn dude, you really hate Microsoft.

Anyway, I don't think you are a tinfoil haberdasher because you hate DRM. I think you're nuts because you think MS is stealing your personal information and scanning your HDD for pirated games.

Oh, and that you expect a copy of Crimson Skies to work in 2015. That's crazy too.

Whatever. I just read all the posts at RPS and then get to the very last post to find this.

skink74 says:

Good news! MS have backported a fix to earlier Windows versions which means if you updated with the September batch of Windows updates you can’t run your old games on Windows 7 or 8 either.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3086255

"In addition to the changes that are listed for the vulnerabilities that are described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-097, this security bulletin addresses a defense-in-depth update for the secdrv.sys driver, a third-party driver. The update turns off the service for the secdrv.sys driver. This may affect the ability to run some older games. "

Fucking wonderful.

Your link includes workarounds that allows the secdrv.sys driver to be turned on. You read the whole thing, didn't you?

Yes, after I posted to here I read it but just imagine all the gamers that are going to find their beloved game no longer runs and they have no idea why.

This doesn't actually affect my Win8.1 PC because every game I have on it is either a digital download game or I have already cracked the game, I just wanted to rock the boat a bit more. It's always the same - when a person rocks the boat they get denigrated by the witch burners because society is just like that.

So basically, you are trolling about an issue that hardly affects anyone, and doesn't even affect you. Then you wonder why people are quick to call you out on your bullshit?

While some, like you, are just here to troll, many actually come here looking for useful information about Windows 10. Some of us try to actually provide factual information rather than simply going on ill-informed rants.

You are implying the expectation that a new operating system will always be able to play older games. I'm really not sure where you got that from. I'd submit that both the transition from 9x to XP, as well as the transition from XP to Vista did more to break compatibility with games than the upgrade to 10 did. I'm still at a loss as to how you hold Microsoft responsible for decade old games that have bullshit DRM built in.

When the person rocking the boat is overly concerned that a 23 year old DOS game doesn't run, others don't care if the bot flips over.

I am the voice of reason and not a troll. I tell it as it is and you just try to gloss over issues and pretend they are a non issue. I stand up against corporate bullying, loss of privacy and other douchebaggery, while you do nothing.

You are this guy: "Thanks Microsoft, and good riddance. If people actually supported those awful DRMs by paying for them, you get what’s comin’ to ya."

And if you ever do come around to making that list, it'll be games that no one gives a shit about anymore.

Fail. Somebody doesn't know about how Microsoft handles the hosts file in Win10.

it fails? oh well, sorry then, cant say anything because i didnt test it myself, im not using 10, i just thought it would be a nifty app for you guys to try, sorry.

I took a huge chance and ran this on my clean Windows 10 installation.
The author's homepage is adorned with a Guy Fawkes mask, spelling errors and something about his programs having "elaborated algorithms". I wouldn't trust it, especially when the uploader himself says he "took a huge chance" by running it.

Kinda ironic though that people who are so concerned about privacy and safety are just running around downloading any random program that purports to protect them from evil Microsoft.

pff give me a break, the source code is there on that page, "Guy Fawkes mask" lol. majorgeeks try shit before making it available, it wouldnt be there if it was harmful.

This is the point we are at. People are more afraid of MS spying on them than taking advice from tinfoil hat blogs and downloading mystery programs.

Take a gander at the homepage for that particular program's developer. It appears as though it belongs to a teenage edgelord who doesn't speak English.

As far as source code? I'm not smart enough to examine source code and determine it's function. I am however smart enough to avoid an unknown program that's selling point is "Millions of users are using the program, helping her improve."

...From a Russian website no less.

dont use it then, done. just because you can t comprehend it doesn't mean it'll fuck you shit up.

True. However, the page being hosted on a Russian web provider, festooned with spelling errors, nonsensical buzzwords and a Guy Fawkes mask raises "fuck you shit up" flags.

Also, could I not apply that same logic to the Windows 10 paranoia? Just because you don't understand the type of data being sent to MS doesn't mean it's malicious. However, being that MS has literally billions of dollars and it's business reputation on the line, one can assume they're not using Win10 as a global spying platform.

hate dissect shit like this but...

thanks.

a Guy Fawkes mask

you cant assume shit these days, even with the sect of the glass wearing worm like features wimp.

Good grief,

he has released the code for that Destroy Windows Spying and updated his source here so you can see it has nothing to hide. Its C# and can open with Visual Studio 2013 and compile for yourself if you want
https://github.com/Nummer/Destroy-Windows-10-Spying/tree/master/DWS
I think he just hate this windows spying as some of the rest of us me included
Pictures mean nothing and translations between different languages takes on things that sometime are not correct

I prefer and use W10Privacy cause it can do more things right now.
