NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

How's your temps with the C12 on a 4790k.. does it pass any stress tests without throttling?

(not really troubleshooting your problem, I was also planning on moving from the 4770k to the 4790k and just wanted to know if that cooler worked okay with it)

Its not too bad actually. It runs pretty warm, but the highest I get while gaming is about 81c on a really hot day.

I ran the benchmark for about 30 minutes like a week ago (the screenshot is from today) and I didn't see any throttling. I really want to put my Corsair H100i in my system, but if I do that then I'll have to remove one of my hard drives.

Hey guys , anybody know where I can buy 2 Scythe Gentle Typhoon D1225C12B5AP-15 fans ?

Depending how adventurous you are with buying from overseas, you can still find them at Taobao (China version of ebay). There are also custom PWM versions of the AP15 available. According to several posters on OCN the ones sold by foresight.taobao.com are genuine. Part numbers D1225C12-00762 en D1225C12-B5ZP-40

Thanks for suggestion but my Chinese it's a crap :(

He essentially said the 780ti already takes 600w by EVGA standard and the Silverstone 450w PSU is not even able to power the whole system and thus damaging computer parts.

Well, that individual is either a painfully embarassing moron, or is trying to screw you. I'm leaning towards the moron explanation.

Just got a shipping update email that says:
As for the estimated delivery date:
- customers in Taiwan, your package should arrive before Friday, Aug 15
- TW Air and TW S.A.L customers, your package should arrive before
Friday, Aug 22
- TW Surface to other countries, your package should arrive before

Bram isn't a bad sort of guy, and Swiftech generally have been firm but fair with RMAs in the past. But then came the H220. It seems to me like the issues and return rate is much higher than they hoped. So like any business I think they are starting to err on the side of caution.

But I think they crossed a line here. Blaming PSU is clearly nonsense, unless they have some kind of evidence to support it. Perhaps Bram and/or Gabe are unaware that plenty of other people are using such "high powered" GPUs in SFF cases with the ST45SF-G.

Here OverRated's build http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1799461 uses an i7-4770K and GTX 780Ti. He no issues with his EK pump, why should Swiftech pump fail then?

So glad I opted to take the extra cost for TW Air.

AAAAHHHH I'm so excited to get my hands on this case!

Seriously happy!
Still don't have the funds to complete the build though I will have to buy the graphics card at a later date

woooo! an NCASE M1 by the end of the month! so excite! hurry up and give the 600W SFX Silverstone you slow buggers!

Warm yes, but not too bad compared to the 4770k on that cooler. Pretty sure the AIDA64 FPU-only test or Prime95 small-FFT test will stick you into throttling real quick (probably/hopefully not relevant to real-world usage, though).

So, in that screenshot, your AIDA64 test is running 4-core turbo at 4.4GHz instead of the normal 4.2? And do you know, is yours an L3 or L4 batch of 4790k? Anyway, thanks for the info, really appreciate it!

He no issues with his EK pump, why should Swiftech pump fail then?

Cause the Swiftech H220 has abnormally high failure rates?

I have an MSI GTX770 (reference design) This card supposedly has the amazing titan cooler with plastic shroud instead metal, but it was basically stuck at 80C the whole time I played any games. I had a couple over-heat shut-downs too. I added a 120mm fan on the bottom in the back slot and now the GPU often drops below 80C, even down to 75C while gaming. The side panel next to the mobo is noticeably cooler now too. I was kid of surprised by the drop in temps (I wasn't really expecting any improvement with the addition of that fan). There have been no more over-heating events since I added the fan, so I think it was a definite improvement. Unfortunately I end up with GPU temps in the throttle range most of the time. My CPU is cooled by an AIO water cooler and has load temps in the 50s, so I hope to switch to a CM Glacer 240L + alpha cool full cover block in the future to further reduce GPU temps. In the mean-time I guess I will just deal with throttled graphics.

Is anyone, who has a reference card like mine, able to maintain temps below 80C while at load?

Someone, possibly from this thread, pointed out to me that the reference cooler for the GTX 770 is actually the Titan cooler. But it's damn hard to get one. Sold out on Newegg

EDIT: found it on Amazon

we still dont really know for certain if this badboy is gunna fit yet do we? im really hoping it does, because that would be fantastic!
I think the consensus is that it'll be a tight fit with a long GPU (130mm length + cable bend radius), but Silverstone have said that they're shipping them with the compact modular cable set s standard, so it should (just about) have sufficient clearance.

I'm guessing M1 shipping notices are going out in batches?

Hey guys

Been lurking on this thread for quite sometime and been wondering about some questions

I'm wanting to upgrade my current Ncase M1 v1 rig

I currently have the Antec Kuhler 620 however I don't like it due to the fact that the rad takes up so much space

I'm looking at getting the AXP-200 however there are two different kinds..

http://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-AXP-200/dp/B00E5V5C8U

http://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-AXP200M-AXP-200-Muscle/dp/B00ICXH8XY

The first one is bigger and I'm wondering if it will fit in the case as well as the H77N-Wifi motherboard from Gigabyte. The spreadsheet says so but I want some reassurance.

I also bought a HIS 7950 blower style, can someone tell me if these measurements will fit?
I can't actually test fit it right now as I am out of town

I don't buy that. The 600W thing is bogus. The PcI std does not allow more than 350W to be used by a PCIe card. The rest of the system should not be using more than 100W. Especially since tat psu stays in specs upto about 500W (though not recomended).

Further a pump that fails due to having too little voltage is not a well designed pump, you should not get a mechanical or electrical failure in a well designed product from such a thing.

The EVGA raiting is high to stop people who do stupid things from complaining.

Of course this is all contingent on you not overclocking.

I bought the blower style R9 280 a couple months ago once the cryptocoin bonanza subsided. It barely fits, the heat pipes stick out just about as far as the fan bracket. If this is a simple rebrand of the 7950, it should fit. However, when I went to the HIS website, it lists the 280 at 13.5cm wide, which fits in the 14cm limit. But the 7950 measures in at 15.5cm, so it doesn't look like it'll fit.

I had a good discussion with parva on pages 317-318 regarding this exact card. I ended up not getting it because of this very concern. I'm really anxious to find out from you when you're able to test it whether my fears were justified, or if I spent several months gaming on Kaveri graphics for nothing.

I also haven't gotten an email. Nothing in my junk mail folder either. I had an address correction on mine (case was going to an old address while extra top panel was shipping to my correct address). If emails are going out in batches I can be patient, but if they are all supposed to be sent I didn't receive one.

hey guys,

is there anybody here who is using a 290X in their M1? i have it paired with a i5-4670K, both being powered by the 450W ST45SF-G. neither the CPU nor the GPU are overclocked, and they're both running factory stock clocks (the GPU is a Sapphire Tri-X 290X, so it's overclocked a bit by the manufacturer). i am getting random, rare shutdowns; they mostly happen when i'm playing Battlefield 4 (maybe once every month or once every two months), but a couple of times, they happened when i was browsing the web or just sitting idle on the desktop. after these shutdowns, i am unable to restart the computer; i have to let it sit a while (i.e., overnight), and i usually have to clear the CMOS and/or usually have to physically hit the case(!) on the left side, where the PSU and motherboard RAM modules are located --- i'm not using excessive force on my M1, i promise! --- and after that i am able to restart the computer. it's really a random problem. i can game for a long time without anything happening, and then one night, it'll shutdown and won't restart.

i'm now wondering whether the combination of i5-4670K + 290X has overstressed the PSU, and it's damaged some components on the motherboard? or maybe the PSU itself is failing?

has anybody measured the power draw from the outlet for the combination of i5-4670K + 290X? is 450W really enough to run these parts smoothly?

PS: i have read the negative reviews on Newegg about the motherboard i'm using, ASRock Z87E-ITX, and the majority of them complain about a failing RAM bank on the motherboard. when i was assembling my PC for the first time, i had trouble with one RAM module and i had to RMA it. after installing the new one i RMA'd from Crucial, my computer failed to restart, and i had to disassemble it partially and make sure everything was reseated, etc. etc. and the problems started after that.

If this RAM problem is a known issue, I wonder why you are worried about the CPU/GPU power draw? Your system probably pulls less than 300W from the PSU.

Anyway, usually when there is a potential memory issue, the best suggestion is to run something like memtest86 overnight.

Yup, I am, for almost a year, without a single shutdown ever. I only have extra power draw from an SSD and a Swiftech H220 (2 fans and 1 pump).

It is NEVER EVER a good idea to hit a computer. Let me restate that: NEVER EVER.
That the problem seems to be resolved after you do this, considering no other factor is the reason like pulling the power plug, this points toward a faulty contact or wire. First start by replacing the PSU with another one. If you have a decent ATX PSU somewhere, hook it up externally until you encounter the problem again. Doesn't happen in 1-2 months ? PSU is bad.

has anybody measured the power draw from the outlet for the combination of i5-4670K + 290X? is 450W really enough to run these parts smoothly?
A computer PSU isn't rated for the watts it consumes from the wall but how much watt it can deliver to components. With the configuration I have, I wasn't able to pull 400W out of the wall while playing BF4, slightly less actually. So it's only providing about 360-370W at max, which seems to be in line with the hardware reviews.

Like WiSK said, if the problem started with RAM, it will most likely be the cause. If the RAM has been replaced, consider that the motherboard is defective. Next to storage and the PSU, it is one of the most common hardware components to fail.

I have a 4770K and an R9 290 which obviously is not directly comparable but I have the 4770K at 4.5ghz and the 290 is OC'd slightly so it should be pretty comparable power. I haven't had any issues with the power supply being unstable and causing system instability. I have a very similar setup to to phuncz and my results have been the same frankly so unless you have a bad PSU I don't think it's the culprit directly.

Also if you are having known problems with the ram i would definitely start the trouble shooting from there. If that doesn't pan out you could check out the PSU.

I'm running an overclocked 4670k and an Asus gtx 770 and had a couple crashes. I'm also in soCal and it's been sweltering out here. Slapping in a fan on the side panel definitely made my rig rock solid with this heat.

From the measurements in the pictures, it should fit no?

The card sits at around 11" long and 5.25" wide which is barely the maximum at 5.5" wide

I've also had a few BSOD's with the heat and playing BF4, with the top and left side panel removed it doesn't. The CPU and PSU weren't overheating, but maybe another component does. PSU perhaps ? I have ST45SF-G with the fan-mod, so it might be possible because it is somewhat restricted with the top panel and lesser performing fan won't help.

Another question I have is...

Would it be better to have no exhaust at the back and have 4xintakes?

But would adding an exhaust help or would it be better to leave it empty and have all the hot air naturally come out of the case?

what happens when your PSU gets overstressed? and how do you determine that it's being overstressed? do you measure the power draw from the outlet? are there crashes/lock-ups?

Sorry, been busy at work and just saw this when catching up on the thread.

Basically if I have the pretties turned up too high (and I've ONLY noticed this in TW2), my system will at some point just turn off. No warnings, no BSODs, no crashes, it just goes from on and running to off. At that point, I can't turn it back on for a bit (usually takes a few minutes and then reboots itself).

Originally it was only happening when I inadvertently left Ubersampling on, but later I found that during certain graphically-intensive sections of the game (battle at beginning of Chapter 2, for example) it still happened, even on substantially-lowered settings.

Looking at my CPU core/GPU temps leads me to believe they aren't the culprits as they aren't approaching levels where I'd expect a thermal shutdown or anything.

I'm also considering the 500w SFX-L since that should also be quieter given the fan and perhaps will cool itself better.

Same here.

Anyone knows what is better a H75 push/pull (if it fits) or a H80i push?
