Watch Dogs

Haha
I actually decided to buy the game because of my high seas adventure. I'm getting the deluxe version too.

I wouldn't really classify that as piracy. I'd say it's only piracy if you decide to A) buy it when it is cheaper, but play it now, or B) not buy it at all.

I like to try before I buy, especially with how a lot of these major publishers will downright lie. I downloaded it, it gave me a BSOD. This tells me that it's not a day one purchase. We'll see how they handle their patching before I give them any money.

I like how I joked about pirating this game earlier in the thread and had my post deleted and infracted...whereas now apparently it's cool to just say you pirated the game outright with no repercussions...

Just report them. It's not worth it to get banned for something stupid like that.

That said, piracy is still piracy, doesn't matter how you try to justify it. BUT, that's not what this thread has to turn into.

I really want to get this game, but I think I'm going to wait at least a few days to see what the reviews say.

Eh? What? AC4 felt amazing on the PC, it was super smooth and looked amazing aside from the volumetric smoke that would plummet my FPS.

More day time shots.

The game can look amazing at times and horrible at others. The lighting seems to be the issue, also they disabled dynamic shadows from spot lighting, makes me angry >< Night time could've been so much better.

Is that with the texture setting at ultra? Because if it is i'm not impressed the textures look pretty muddy to me and why would that require 3gb vram lol

jesus the car models are so fucking bad. if they were better this game would be so good looking. i can't wait to play with the stuttering fixed. and PRAISE JESUS NO FPS CAP.

e: just tried the game on my brother's computer, 3570k and 570. he was getting fps drops/stuttering in the same places i was with the lowest texture setting (medium) and medium other settings. there's no way they won't have this fixed either with a patch or a driver update from nvidia. are people with amd cards getting stuttering or anything like that?

Wow , watching Twitch streams of this and it looks very much like a poor man's GTA 5 clone. Very disappointing. The hacking is cool but the AI , some textures get recycled to often and a story line that I couldn't give 2 fucks about.

Its hard to believe people thought a year ago that this would be a contender for GTA 5. It doesn't even deserve to smell the farts left from the after party GTA 5 attended.

Soon as Rockstar announces GTA 5 for next gen and the PC everyone will forget Watch Dogs existed. Can you imagine if this game release on time 6 months ago? It must have been half complete at that point.

I don't advocate for piracy and I understand it hurts the little guy the most (thankfully Ubisoft isn't little at all) but seeing people get this early and all the impressions has saved me $60.

The game shines in the variety, stealth, and actual thinking required in completing the missions, and side missions etc.. It's the exact opposite of GTA's pray, spray, and remove all the red dots from the map.

Once again: How good of video quality are we really seeing off of Twitch by and large?

Most of what I've seen has been very compressed and not what I would hang my hat on for making a graphics determination.

Game looks great at night, but looks average during the day. Can't hide those low res textures when the sun is up.

If you get the freezing issues and it's not your vram, disable paging file and the game's ram usage will jump to about 6 GB (as opposed to default ~2 GB).

Eh, I'd say report them if they post a link to it. Otherwise, why waste your time? To try and be some morally superior non-moderator? I'm pretty sure a lot of the people who have posted screens got the game by downloading it. What you don't know is if that download was illegal, as they may have purchased it already. Unless you're arguing that obtaining the product outside of "official" means is piracy even when you've paid for a license.

nope. ram usage stayed the same. vram usage stays around 1900-2000 MB regardless of settings. medium textures has the least amount of stutter but it's still there and looks absolutely terrible. high and ultra are nearly unplayable.

In the US at least it is ALWAYS illegal to download a copy off the internet. You are theoretically allowed to create a backup of media you already own though even that is murky and undefined as the DMCA is old, overrules by various other laws and regulations, and not remotely equipped to handle digital media. That said in cases like this hearing about gameplay and other potential issues is not a bad thing. Kind of makes me glad I decided not to pre-order the game.

Because I've gotten infractions for some stupid shit and I'm tired of all of the people blatantly bragging about pirating not getting warned for anything. I meant the people who actually say "I pirate x because I can/want to". I don't mean the less obvious ones, I have given everyone the benefit of the doubt in this thread :)

Anyways, this game sounds a bit disappointing but maybe a patch can alleviate the performance issues. From what I saw though, the car AI is pretty dumb(Firetruck with sirens and no one tried to get out of the way). But I do like the hacking aspect. I think this may be a similar attempt at beating GTA like Sleeping Dogs. I loved that game, but it still didn't combine everything as well as GTA did.

and I'm tired of all of the people blatantly bragging about pirating

Actually.. No one is doing that. Hence why there is no problem here.. If anyone here is indeed "trying before buying" they have been smart about it and keeping their mouth shut

There is that noobie one page back that changed his post(read the original post in spidey's reply). But I meant in general. I also don't want to derail this thread, hence why I said to just report them and move on.

You had a bad experience with a cracked version... and you're blaming the game? Maybe hold off judgment until a day one patch and proper video driver. And then judge the legit game, not a cracked copy from some shitbag teenagers.

the Day 1 patch and optimized drivers must be a miracle patch if it's going to make what I've seen in those screenshots and video streams into an amazing game...the apologists always scream to wait for patches/drivers etc...c'mon the game is what it is at this point...sure they'll help but Watch Dogs is not going to be the transformative next-gen gaming experience it was hyped to be...decent GTA/Sleeping Dogs hybrid with a bit of Adam Jensen thrown in to make it seem unique

What a clusterfuck.
Early pirated copies and people here posting about it.

Not surprised, and honestly, I dont feel at all bad. Uplay is such a fuckup and the 5 different CE releases pissed me right off. I was interested in this game, but when I saw that it was impossible for me to buy the game and get all the content, Ill pass and Ill tip my hat to those who chop away at the profits.

The CE releases is a bigtime dick move. I see this explosion in piratebay traffic as karma well deserved.

Screenshots look as expected, but not as terrible as it could have been

It's because the game isn't even out yet.
So naturally, people want to play it early. And some people who were planning to buy the game, or already pre-ordered, want to see if they should buy it.

I think the leak is going to cost Ubisoft a lot of sales, even from people who would have bought the game had the leak not happened.
Oh well. Next time they shouldn't misrepresent their product with years of advertising, and spend some time making a quality port people actually want to pay for.

Either way it's not good for PC gaming. Ubisoft will blame bad sales on the leak/pirates. PC gamers will blame bad sales on the shitty port.
Nobody wins.

Gamers havent had a win in years.

Every once in a while we do. Just Cause 2 is still a win.. Sleeping Dogs is a standard all PC developers should strive for. Rocksteady hasn't been half bad as most of the flaws were with gameplay bugs and not performance.

I still don't understand how people are claiming to be playing this legitimately 3-4 days before release...it shouldn't matter if you got an early release physical disc copy as it uses Uplay, so how can the game unlock early?

the port is great, i have no idea what you're talking about. lots of graphics options, no fps cap, no mouse acceleration, and runs reasonably well for how it looks. the problem is the stuttering, which they've probably already got a fix ready for. there's obviously something wrong with the leaked copy because no matter what settings i use, vram usage stays the same. you guys need to relax and wait for the inevitable day one patch/new drivers.

no one is claiming they're playing it 'legitimately.' even if they were, who gives a fuck? it doesn't matter.

Exactly. I'm holding judgement until the game is officially released.

there are people claiming to be playing it the legit way...scroll back a few pages...said it unlocked early for them

We shall see. You could copy paste much of these "arguments" from the AC4 thread pre-release in here and they'd sound exactly the same. Come release day and AC4 performed exactly the same way even after patches, and driver updates.

Our reader ‘Khodam Hoelo’ has shared with us a video, showing Watch_Dogs running on AMD’s 8-core processor, FX-8350, that was accompanied with an Nvidia GTX780 GPU. As we can clearly see, there are major slowdowns even when this 8-core CPU is clocked at 4.4Ghz. Good news is that the game scales on 8-core CPUs. The bad news is that the game did not stress that particular CPU (as well as the GPU) while the framerate was taking a dive at 40s, suggesting that both Nvidia and Ubisoft will have to release patches and new drivers in order to further polish it.

There's a shocker.

mouse smoothing =/= acceleration and that "fix" doesn't do anything (there's nothing to fix because the game doesn't use acceleration, inputs are just delayed no matter what. how you mistake that for acceleration i don't know.) it's right there in the comments if you actually bothered to read them, or look at the config file where it clearly says UseMouseSmooth="0" by default, OR tested it yourself in game.

Uh its still not native 1:1 raw input, so I'm not sure how you can rationalize that smoothing is worse than acceleration unless you are just being pedantic for the sake of it. Not unusual for people to use the terms interchangeably because ultimately either still means fucked up mouse movement.

Its also right there in the OP...." I have come to the realization that this "fix" does not apply to all mouse-movements in the game. Especially aiming and shooting still feels very lackluster sometimes, but I'm afraid that this is intentional by the developers :/", i.e. it has an impact on mouse movement, just not all mouse movement.

i suggest you learn to read because nothing you just typed would lead anyone to believe that you actually can.

So here is a thought. Is it possible that the "released early" version that people have been playing is perhaps not a final build? Does anyone even know where it appeared from? It might explain some of the crazy bugs and glitches people are seeing. Probably doesn't explain the performance issues though.
