How is it that Quake Live is more fun than most of the FPS games out today & its free?

couldn't agree more, but hate quakelives hitbox dragging behind bs. I do like hawken a lot now and it's on steam for free. About the closest I can think of to a heavily played arena game nowadays.

I got sick of waiting and am trying to build my own on the new unreal 4 engine, surprisingly easy to use. I know of nothing coming out that's supposed to be a real arena shooter, and it blows my mind as once you get really used to it, it's hard to play slow ass realism based games.

I prefer Quake 3 Arena over Quakelive & Unreal Tournament over Quake 3.

I agree with you there, I just wish it didn't cost $20 a month just use to the damn engine tools. A friend and I are going to work on something with the UT3 engine for now.
UT4 editor looks so much easier though.

you only have to buy it once, and they let you keep using it just don't get the updates till you pay monthly again. For what it is it's a helluva deal.

I wasn't trying to say quake live is amazing or anything. Just that its fast paced fun & free compared to what we have on the market today...I feel like FPS gaming was a lot better back in the day. If anyone remembers the fun had from Tribes...Even if someone just updated the graphics a bit this game could live on like CS did.. I tried hawken but it was too slow for me and the maps were really crappy they all seem the exact same, no variety.
BTW What is the difference between qlive & q3arena? I used to own q3arena but cant find it lol Do people still play the original UT?

They took a lot of the satanic graphics and bloodshed out of the Quake Live version. Quake 3 Arena had blood explosions ,Pentagrams & other devilish things which IMO added to the awesome mood of the game while you frag your friends. Quake Live focuses more on a minimalist pussfied approach. :)

Speaking of Unreal Tournament , I still play UT99 and 2004 regularly. Also have you tried Tribes Ascend? Its really fun.

They need to scrap all of that space nonsense and go back to the Lovecraftian influence of the first Quake.

I got the impression that not a lot of people still played Tribes: Ascend. Not true? I heard Hi-Rez kinda fucked up with the game in a lot of ways.

Seriously? Is there somewhere that it states that? I would love to just start working on the UT4 engine instead.

Edit - Ok, I just re-read the FAQ page and I see what you are stating by this. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes I did play Tribes ascend...However the whole free to play thing & buying stuff & such turned me off...It was fun for a day & thats about it...Nothing compared to the old school trio: UT99 & Q3 Arena for straight up deathmatch fun while StarSeige Tribes was the greatest open world FPS ever created to this day . I might try titanfall out when a price drop hits. However, it still looks like a COD ripoff...The only good COD games in my opinion were when IW was PC only developer (COD1, 2).

I find it entertaining. Try it for yourself.

Yeah, I played it awhile back but I haven't touched it in awhile. I had gotten the impression that player count was low, but maybe I'll pick it back up again.

True but it was released first on PC. PC had priority whereas now consoles do...

Always thought it was the 3rd one that was a console port.
The original and UO are really in my top 5 as far as shooter goes, lots of fun.

hell ya the original cod and cod:uo were awesome. Too bad the series went to shit.

Yeah its sad...I feel like FPS gaming on PC never recovered from its glory days...its shocking that nothing has been made that can top the old school games...All we got was better graphics but worse gameplay...

For me right now Titanfall is the most fun I've had in a FPS since Q3A and Unreal Tournament. My only complaint right now is that the maps are limited and I would like an option for mods and custom games.

I thought I would like quake live more, but I ended up doing like 5 matches and haven't played since.

I can't get past the fact that it looks and plays like the modern COD games with Mechs. Also what is the player count in this game? I hear its 6v6?

It is 6v6 but the maps are pretty small and it has NPCs. It feels really good to me. I had no plans on playing it at all on PC or Xbox. I'm a single-player only carebear for the most part. So the fact it was multi-player only turned me away. But I tried the beta and I was hooked after a few matches.

Alternately, I played the Titanfall beta for a few hours and got bored. So YMMV of course.

Seems like a good title to pick up on a $15 sale or something down the line, but not for $60.

Same here,it quickly got boring in the beta. Its the same game play repeat and rinse and the map size didn't help make it any better.I am finally finding time to go through my steam backlog.

CS:GO.... has been my GO TO.
hardy har har

anyway I enjoy the recoil of the weapons/hit detection and its relativley easy to get into some competitive action.

and I can make like a buck 50 a week off of selling the items that drop

Come to think of it...why doesn't sum one start a kick starter for a true spiritual tribes game on PC! I miss shooting mortar, discs, dueling in mid air, creating impenetrable base defenses, festering generators, flying planes and capping flags!

There would be no incentive to do so considering the existence and current state of Tribes Ascend.

Have you played the game? It's a bit different from COD imo, it's very enjoyable and the first time I've put so much time into a FPS for years. (Bad Company 2 and COD:MW2 were the last FPS games I've actually played a lot)
