Titanfall - Don't Fall For The Hype

played it -- was okay...

it's one of those games Id probably buy if it was 20 dollars, you know they already have 100+ dollars worth of DLC lined up for this thing behind the curtain.

60 dollars though -- they can suck it.

yup

I love the Battlefield series, but EA can suck it, I don't buy DLC, I come from an era where the community made higher quality and quantity 'addon mods' ala DLC for FREE. I miss those days dearly.

And for the record tribes 2 was pretty much the inspiration for battlefield. Once again another game comes along dumbs down an idea and game play and cleans house.

BF42 and DC mod was totally awesome to me. Of course they messed up all the fun with the later BF series (at least for me, the later series were crap as far as gameplay goes).

So tell me, before I decide on ordering this: Does it require total coordinated team work or, can you have fun just playing it without worrying about all the ranking and other such related time sucking BS?

You can have fun solo, but a few times in the beta if my team was particularly bad the other team would be nothing but Titans... that sucked a bit.

I haven't played it. Lots of the popular video game content posters on youtube have been showing lots of beta footage. I have to say, it's all very generic, looks boring (no real strategy), and might as well just be a COD:MW skin.

That being said, at the end of the article, the author says that it's difficult to believe that people would be excited about a game that you'd only play in short bursts. I think TF2 was created with that mindset (can jump in, play in a short burst, and leave without needed a heavy investment in the game). And it became wildly successful, if only for the continued support from Valve and community.

So we'll see. I don't think I'll play it--actually, I haven't really played anything new over the past year. It looks meh from all the gameplay footage, but if people enjoy it, all the power to them.

All I want is an graphically updated version of Mechassault and Destroy All Monsters...

I don't know. The whole time the guy is talking over the gameplay video i'm watching the video and thinking it looks pretty fucking awesome. Guess it's just personal preference.

I personally found the Beta fun and very joyful. Sure lots of titans... but i always found it easy to take them out as a Pilot with a shotgun. Spent most of my games destroying the enemy titans as a pilot. Managed to get to Lv.11 before I stopped but I was having fun.

Personal feel, I didn't like COD much but Titanfall was fun and a blast..

My preference is single player AND multiplayer. Not paying $60 for an EA game that only has one. I'll wait a couple years and buy it for $5

This game feels like CoD and Tribes had a dumbed down bastard child.
6v6 limit? When was that ever a good idea?

Maybe I am just an odd one, but I look at games as purely a form of entertainment. I can drop 60 bux on a dinner easily and I get to maybe enjoy that for what, an hour? I just want to come home after a long day and hang with the family and then jump on for some mindless fun.

I am sure glad I don't spend all my time hating on games.

I was so excited to see this game at first but then I saw that EA logo. That said, I hope this game fails.

Have a good one! :p

I've only paid $60 for 2 games my entire life. None of them were first person shooters, which you can only "reinvent" so many times. I hope it does very well but have my doubts.

hype has nothing to do with it...a game will either be good or bad regardless of how much hype

Well, hype definitely has everything to do with people pre-ordering a game (in general, not specifically Titanfall) when it may turn out to be shitty.

I completely agree. I really miss those days as well. I remember when they first started charging for DLC and I thought it was a crazy idea. I couldn't imagine anyone actually paying for DLC and I never thought it would catch on. Boy was I wrong. :(

Wait a minute, there's no single player at all? That sounds like a rip-off really.

The very first PC game I bought with my own money was Tribes, on a total impulsive wim (which is something I never do) at Costco in 1998. I was surprised tthat it had no single player whatsoever. It gave me the best 3 years of my gaming life, and I knew for a fact over 12 years ago that I would never have so much fun gaming ever again. A douzen years and hundreds of games later, I haven't even come remotely close to being wrong.

This is really the only thing Xbox fans can cling on to. Titanfall or bust really.

how about games that release with single player only and are only around 6-8 hours long? I'm sure I can easily get dozens of hours out of this game so in my opinion the value is good enough to buy it.

So Halo, Gears, Forza, Project Gotham, Crackdown, Ryse, Dead Rising, Fable, Killer Instinct, Peggle, Plants Vs Zombies, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, and the huge list of other IPs that MS owns like Alan Wake, Crimson Skies, Rallisport Challenge, Flight Simulator, AOM, AOE, Viva Pinata, Shadowrun, etc.... all mean nothing?

Question is, this game or Hawken on a gtx 780?

beta hawken looked pretty fn bad ass on my gtx660, want to test out both of these games on a high end card.

I've loved this team since they made COD Modern warfare, ever since they left the rest of the series sucked in comparison especially multiplayer. I absolutely loved the Beta, it actually brought some new elements to the genre finally. I actually love being able to hack bots and deal with enemy units as well as other players. I don't read a lot of game articles but I read this and it seemed retarded. I spent $100 on this game already 1 copy for me one for my bud. I wouldn't be surprised if Activision dropped a few dollars in the authors pocket for it.

I guess they sold almost 4 million XB1s are the pure hope that TF would be good....

I am always saddened that no one seems to remember Shogo. I believe that was the first game to mix person FPS and mech FPS, though possibly not at the same time.

At any rate, I have long suspected that Titanfall will not move systems after release. That is why they have been running it in TV commercials since ~6 months before the game's release. They are trying to move consoles before the game comes out and gets a bunch of 8's, or runs just fine on a 360.

To an extent I think the same can be said about the extreme negative hate about it.

Maybe that's just Hardforum though. It's turned into a hate on every game bandwagon.

It's become a hate on everything and belittle it while I have no experience on the subject we are talking about place.

*looks at you guy that you can think you can run twitter from your basement and has no idea on how queries work*

Home front was the last game I was truly disappointed by. I'm sure titanfall will be alright, but it'll never replace the socom II, COD4, and Red Alert places in my heart. As soon as it's available on the digital xbox store I'll pick it up.

I'd be willing to bet the 360 delay was for no real reason other than to push xbox one sales, lol.

Went into the beta with an open-mind.
Played countless hours.
Loved the game.
Now believe the hype.
Pre-ordered the game.

I never follow hype until I get to play the game prior to release. This game had a lot of hype going into it ever since its E3 debut last year and after the beta I believe the hype is warranted.

Whereas I did the same as you and felt the opposite. Well, not quite opposite but definitely didn't think it was that special, nor worth a $60 purchase.

Not a bad game, though, that's for sure.

I'm expecting to drop 150 - 350 hours into it and call it a day. I really like it, but I'm not going to play it like I did WoW (12,000 - 14,400 hours). No hype train here.

This, will be a fun game. I just want something fun to play and enjoy and this looks like what I want.

I wish someone would just take the original tribes and recode it. I'd buy the shit outta of Tribes: Remastered. I must of spent an easy 1000 hours in that game. Its actually what got me into computers.

That said, I like TF. The beta was good, it does feel exactly like COD. I would imagine they have a crapton of DLC they are waiting to sell. I might buy the game, but I'll stay away from the DLC.
