Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

There will be 501 people in the game with one. If you see one barreling towards you at ramming speed...run.

LOL.

Any clue when the Cutlass will finally get a finalized model to walk around? I'm thinking of shopping around to get one...but dammit I want to see something more final-ish than a statue before spending $100USD. :)

no real time line, it wont come out until the asteroid hangar is done, they get released at the same time

Yup. This is what Ben said the other day

You should have learned by now that resisting is futile

I have now spent more money on this single game than some of my guns :(

And I still want a cutlass. My wife is going to kill me if I manage to get concierge service buy actually spending my own money.

Note: I think if you hit over $500 spent in this game they should give you the buggy for free

I just bought one because it comes with a pirate paint scheme.. arrr

ROFL, you can buy that skin from the store as well. Go spend more money :D

Well, it was convenient that the ship came as a bonus with the skin :D

and I can't, rest of this ships is not really that attractive to me.

Lets put it this way, if it has a two handed steering device, instead of a stick, I don't want to fly it.
You guys are more than welcome to carry my dogfighting ass around in your winnebago's

That is a lot of money. Fewer and fewer people in the US own guns, but for the ever shrinking minority of people who buy guns, they spend top dollar. Those gun makers know they can fleece the gun lovers for the fancy new toys.

So I'm still kinda on the fence about a few things

Do I get a cutlass or do I get a freelancer?

I am grabbing a avenger since I sold mine off to make sure I would get the super hornet
I am grabbing a Aurora package for my son

SO I am stuck now on the cutlass or the freelancer, putting me at the $300+ range for this game now.

Haha yep that'l be me, i hope they have some kind of seat belt because all the other ships seem to lack them. :D

on a side note, were you ever able to get one?

Thats why, aside from my carry weapon and the obligatory ar, I have taken to picking up older guns that I can buy using my C&R licence, you get screwed allot less.

I'm still on the waiting list. After I got in, they started giving others 5 month waiting times. I'm hoping I made the earlier cut, if not I may just cancel it and get something else.

Yeah I did not even make it in to the 5 month list, my quoted time when I asked to get in on the list was
"You have 0% chance of getting this ship now, would you still like to wait?" :D

Dunno. Anyone know if there's been clarification about inter-star-system traveling...and what ships can/cannot do it on their own? I presume there's some size or engine limitation, for example the Super Hornet has a "Tarsus Jump Engine" whereas the other hornet models do not.

Either way, if you're thinking of piracy/raiding...LTI should be a priority I figure.

All ships will have jump drives. The ship specs page is not to be taken as an accurate source of facts and figures as it is incomplete and will also be constantly updated as new ships are completed.

I thought the Tarsus Leaper Jump engine maybe something that extends the already limited range of the SuperHornet, over the regular, tracker and ghost versions.

For weapons loadout of the Hornets, here are my thoughts
1) SuperHornet gets the, upgraded version of normally wing mounted repeaters, to its top as a turret
2) The repeaters on the wings are replaced with lasers
3) Nose mounted weapon is a neutron gun. Neutron guns in games are lowest range, highest energy consuming and most non rocket/laser weapons, so these are the finishers.

So using some assumptions like the nn-14 neutron and stalker are %10 better than the nn-13 and the FOF missiles and the Laser cannons carried the same punch as the 117's, total weapons output between the regular Hornet and the SuperHornet is

SHornet -->NN14+Stalker+Laser Cannon+117 Hornet-->NN13+FOF+117

(((2.2+4.2+2+2)-(2+2+4))/8)*100=30%

damn... that's alot.

I wasn't reading off the specs page...I was reading off the advert brochure PDF for the Hornet lineup that seems much more final, page 16:

PS-jump drives being the ingame mechanism to go star system hopping?

Oh we hit $25M already, this is our fastest million yet...

At $25 million, you allow us to build a stronger infrastructure for the Star Citizen alpha test:

Enhanced Alpha – We will use additional funding to build a wider alpha test than we had originally intended for the first phase of Star Citizen’s launch. The initial plan was to first launch servers in North America and then expand to areas such as Europe and Australia to decrease latency in these areas, perfecting the game as we improve the experience around the world. This funding will allow us to invest in a wider infrastructure for our early testing, spinning up remote servers earlier. Hitting this goal will also allow us to increase the number of remaining alpha slots. Extra alpha slots not only means more Star Citizens will travel the ‘verse at launch, but that we will receive more feedback and more stress testing. This in turn will allow us to better balance and enhance the Star Citizen experience!

The tech team is already looking into the best way to make this happen! One immediate impact is that we can add 50,000 alpha slots to our test plan, which will be reflected on the site shortly. As usual, we are ready to unveil the ‘next next’ stretch goal, for the $27 million level. This is another goal that should interest everyone immediately because it allows us to expand the range of experiences you’re going to find in Star Citizen.

$27 million
Banu Merchantman Unlocked – Banu traders are renowed for their merchant prowess, traveling the spacelanes and trading with everyone from humans to the Vanduul! Their sturdy, dedicated trading ships are prized beyond all other transports, sometimes passing from generation to generation of Banu. At $23 million we dedicated additional resources to making Xi’An spacecraft a unique experience. At $27 million, we will expand that same thinking to the Banu! Starting with the merchant ship, the design team will expand Banu technology to offer players a completely different way of experiencing their universe.

Guess the Banu will be where we want to go to insure our scythes and alien equipement, im sure they charge a premium for their services tho.

I think they are traders, not insurance brokers, but who knows.

Yes, traders that live forever.

I think it's time people revisit the live stream and listen to Rob talk about a lot of juicy details. He talks about discovering and successfully mapping/navigating brand new jump points being a combination of skill and a pretty maneuverable ship (giving a nod specifically to the Cutlass). He also talks about the Banu, that they live forever, and that they are everywhere in the galaxy...

any good trader would try to make money any way they can, and if they have access to alien tech im sure they would be happy to charge extra fees to insure it.

i mean honestly tech no one in their right mind would insure a ship or equipment in SC because in the end it would cost the insurer 100's of times more than they made off any product in the game, but some times fun takes over for realism and if a banu can pretend to make some more money off you with some high alien tech insurance policy im sure they will.

So whats the subscriber forum like? secret stuffs?? :D

Like general only far more reasonable, a lot less threads and far less dumb. There's also talk about JP but that's really only because it's the only condoned place on RSI to talk about it. Plenty of that kinda thing on other sites too. Some Sub Merch discussions as well. Sub if you want to dump more money in, not really a big reason to otherwise (not that I don't WANT you to put more money in, but don't feel like you're missing out).

i have a retaliator, why?

m50, 350r, Retaliator, 2x super hornets (1 weekend warrior, and 1 digital colonel + upgrade)

What are you planning to do with the Retaliator? Is there a specific reason on why you bought it?

My answers for those are pretty boring actually. I bought my ships for their stated purposes(and mostly to kick in more). The Cat is hostile boarding opportunity support and the retaliators are as a torp ship and possibly an exploration support vessel depending on how all the upgrade systems play out later on as well as exploration mechanics). I may melt the second one depending on that part.

my planned roles for my ships

M50, fast combat interceptor

350, Solo Chillaxin Explorer with speed to get away from danger when needed

2x Super hornets, will be my primary solo combat ship, and a second for a wing man, or if im flying the m50, ill use 2 supers as wing men.

Retaliator, will be my heavily armed transporter when i want to do some trade runs, and when our group needs it ill fit it for Big Badda Boom Torps and other missles.

I am thinking more about the docking and ship capturing aspects of the game.
Lets say we disabled an enemy ship

Here what are the options?
a)destroy enemy ship, collect loot+salvage the wreck maybe
-Go home, enjoy a brewski at the bar, tell the tale
b)board the ship and capture it
-Attach to the ship
-Cut the door open
-Enter the ship
1.Just take the ship like that?
2. Maybe have to fight off the crew?
-Who is going to drive the captured ship now?
-Why risk boarding the ship, what if you can't capture it, just your boys die ala FTL and you
move on?

c)tow the ship....? maybe
--Where?
-What to do with it now, just let the crew starve to death for a few weeks, enter and collect their
corpses?

I am thinking capturing ships are going to be multiship ship endeavors. Cutlass has room for 2 people, one needs to be at the helm, meaning when it attaches, it can send one guy out. Most ships that can be boarded host 2 or more crew members, so when you are trying to capture a ship using a cutlass you are almost always guaranteed to be outnumbered....
