great treatment for motherboard, power supply, other components in a water cooled system?
 
If it is silicone based, as I heard it is, might it be a barrier to heat transfer if it hits heatsinks and.. basically anything in the case?

Anyone know of a DIY oleophobic coating kit? My cell phone's factory oleophobic coating lasted about a month before it became a fingerprint magnet...and I really miss it being fingerprint resistant.
 
Rain x is ~$7 for a bottle. Each application lasts a few days? Maybe a week? Who puts this on every week?

One application of Aquapel can last up to 6 months... I'll take that any day.
 
Other then windshields and phones what are you guys putting this stuff on? Is it legit to treat the inside of your case and components with this stuff? My H60 is getting long in the tooth and after reading all those coolit reviews I got a little worried about my rig.
 
I like this idea. Been using scotch guard on my pants when I go snowboarding during the winter. Maybe I'll try this out.

Make sure you guys do your research before using this stuff. You do NOT want to let this touch your skin. Inhaling this can be bad as well. Check out the MSDS.

If I bought this it would go on my:
Plunger
Outside of my shoes/boots

I dont really know why your application of rain x last only a week. For me it last anywhere from 1-3 months.

Is it ok to let it touch your skin after it is dry?
 
p.s. Rustoleum is an awful brand overall. Their rust-preventing paint is total crap from my experience, and I recently used their "truck bed liner" to "finish" a subwoofer and it turns out that stuff is basically "slightly rubbery black paint" which would be totally useless on a truck bed. 5 coats of that stuff and still not as good as 1 coat of Herculiner.

So I wouldn't expect this stuff to be any good, anyway. If it is, it may very well be their first non-awful product.

I know how to prep and I know how to paint. I used to paint our metal patio furniture with my father using Rustoleum and we did clean the metal first and it did not keep the rust away for s*** and this was not just one time. Zero Rust (a competing product), however, is awesome. I've used that more recently and it lasts quite a while in my experience, much better than Rustoleum junk. My dad also used to paint a couple of his winter beater trucks with Rustoleum (ghetto I know haha) and he was redoing that every 1 to 2 years.

The truck bed liner, however, is what REALLY made me hate Rustoleum. Who the hell ever let that product go to market? It's SO BAD.

I'm not so sure about that, at least after the curing stage. The MSDS lists a lot of hazardous chemicals, but it looks like most of it is due to the aerosol delivery method. The fact that the NeverWet directions actually mention applying it on fabric without a safety disclaimer leads me to believe it's probably safe after curing.

Rust-Oleum NeverWet will adhere to most fabrics, but it will leave a flat milky haze on the
surface. As with other substrates, test in an inconspicuous area before applying to the
entire surface. Particular attention should be paid to seams. Apply a heavier than normal
coat of Base Coat around seams to help prevent liquids from penetrating those areas

It's like working with any other chemical in an aerosol can. Don't be stupid. I bought some two days ago at the local Home Depot. I plan to coat my toilet brush, plunger, and maybe some areas of the shower where water normally collects. I'll likely experiment with on other household stuff like maybe the drain board for my dish rack, etc.
 
I wonder if you put it on the inside of a hat brim what would your sweat do? Puddle up on your hair?

Yep, pretty much. if anyone failed to notice, most of the items they used during testing were white. So if you have plans on using this on darker colored items. Feel free to do so, but be warned it will look like someone jizzed all over clothes
 
why the F*** would you use anything other than Rhino Liner or LineX on a truck bed?

Why would I want my windows coated with a product that I can't remove with soap? Am I to believe that such a product will never, EVER cause issues? Some people don't even like Rain-X because they say while it works great at high speeds and/or with heavy rain, at lower speeds when it's only sprinkling out it sucks and they can't get the water off their windshield even if they use the wipers. Would I want to take that risk with a product I couldn't remove? No.
 
Wonder if this stuff would be good to spray on litterboxes, keep the pee clumps from sticking.

Rustoleum I used to swear by this stuff, I think more from the ads than anything else, it has fish old and will not allow metal to rust.
ok last year the metal pole for my grill was rusting, took it, sanded it down and used their rust neutralizer, primed and painted.
Now its flaking and showing rust.
might not be that good after all.
 
Why buy rainx have you people never heard of WAXING your windshield with regular car wax? Works well lasts longer then rainx does for sure....

Every time I've gotten wax on my windows it's given me trouble when the sun shines in a certain way. One time when I got my car detailed I swear the guy must have waxed my rear window and when the sun hit it I could barely see through it. And it was hard to remove the wax even with some 3m wax remover spray.

Perhaps some waxes are okay on windows. Definitely not all are.
