Facebook now has hashtags. #copycats #upyourstwitter #noonereallycares

The social network wants to make it easier for users to find content already on Facebook, and functional hashtags are the first step. According to Facebook, many users already post hashtags anyway, so why not make them work? Hashtags will be both clickable and searchable, so, for example, topics like #NSALeaks or #NBAFinals will now exist.

Good for them. This will definitely interlink the twitter and facebook realms that much more.

Also :INB4 ZOMG Facebook and Twitter are so stupid!!!!!!111111!

If they really want to make it easier to find stuff, how about making the goddamned wall/timeline/"whatever it is called this week" searchable?

So tired of looking for that link friend X posted 3 months ago, and having to scroll down and down and down and down and do a "find in page" only to not find it and have to continue to scroll down and wait for it to refresh....

So wait, people on Facebook didn't know how to put # in front of words that don't have spaces between then? Wierdness! o_O

I wish this was a feature they would implement, but I think they don't because it makes it too easy for other people to use their data for data mining purposes. Then Facebook wouldn't have any advantages over other data mining companies.

They must not have those...

Excuse me for being twitter noob

What the fuck is a Hashtag and what's it use/purpose.

It's when you stick # in front of words without spaces to seem cooler than other people who don't do it. It makes you look trendy so, when you're over 40, you still seem like you're on the cutting edge of technology.

True about trends, though I'm not sure about coolness. I do know that it makes tweets easier to track if you're looking for certain subjects.

Those aren't hash tags, they are IRC channels... Why did they have to copy the original chat rooms?
