Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I haven't played BF3 in awhile, but I'm severely disappointed that none of the DLC had any sort of SP or co-op content in it (as far as I can tell, as I didn't purchase Premium). I thought the co-op was a lot of fun, and the SP was decent as well.
 
I'm hoping BF2143 is going to be a little expansion on BF3 while we wait for BF4, the sooner I can pilot my gun ship again the better.

and its 100% bullshit. It shows me downloading 1.2mb on my 6mb dsl. Yeah right, most this will do is ~700KB on any speedtest. It does this every single time I download from origin.

Maybe it because of your dsl connection?

It's not uncommon my downloads hit 2.9MB in origin.

I'm hoping you never hope for that again. BF2143 deserves a full blown release not some 1943 mistake baby, where they accept preorders for PC then decide not the release it on PC afterall.

I loved 2142, and I'm ecstatic about the latest 2143 easteregg. Probably one of the most underrated bf titles.
 
2142 was just an expansion for BF2 released as a standalone with nerfed textures so it would run better. Don't get me wrong, I loved BF2142, but also do not misunderstand what the original was. BadCo2 Vietnam was really not bad for what it was, I'm hoping BF2143 is released along those lines for BF3.
 
Anyone having issues getting in game? My browser is just sitting their saying matchmaking.

End Game isn't out yet for PC. Remember, they have a week head start on PS3.
 
Started playing again, except now my game runs like complete and utter ass. I've lowered all the settings, still runs like ass...worse than it did before and at higher settings.

Funny, I'm experiencing the exact opposite after playing a round post endgame patch :p

For gulf of Oman, I used to have to bump down a setting or 2 to maintain 45+ fps, but that seems no longer necessary. Min framerate is up accross the board.

Lowering a number of settings and seeing no real benefit screams CPU issue to me, but I could be wrong. What are you rockin' under the hood? (apologies if it was posted earlier).

C2D 2.4Ghz, GTS450, 2GB RAM (DDR2). Yeah I know it's low-end, I'm running everything on low at 1280x720. Before the patch, I had it on medium settings.
 
A 6gb patch yesterday when I logged in WTF ?

I assume that's for "End Game" new expansion, but it's not even playable yet, while force the download on us so early, if the games not ready ?

It comes out in three days. If they roll out a patch now, it gives everyone time to update over the weekend so that they just have to flip on the servers come tuesday. Seems reasonable to me.

Ha...Maxis could learn something from DICE...though they're both published under EA...you'd think they would have some form of common communication.

I guess you could argue that, and I had a pretty negative opinion on it when I was playing BF2 Special Forces, but once I actually picked up 2142, it was a blast. I played it for over 1000 hrs. Heck, it did well enough that they released the Northern Strike 'DLC/Booster Pack/expansion', whatever marketing term you wanna call it.

Bad Company 2 Vietnam had a much shorter run. And I really hope 2143 doesn't share its fate at all.

I'm just one of those diehard fans. I also realize BF2 has more sustained players right now than BF2142, which is dead.

Yea, that system is a wee bit dated:( The video card should hold up fine at 720p as you mentioned, but the RAM / CPU is the biggie here. Just to give you an example, I saw a night and day difference going from a C2D to a C2Q in Bad company 2. I can only guess how much BF3 would tax a dual.

Have you considered overclocking? What i'd do is bump the CPU to 3ghz+. A respectable entry-level CPU cooler should run about $15-$20. You can use the CPU cooler for a future build too (most socket 775 coolers work with 1155) so it wouldn't be just throwing money at a dead end. That should noticeably help your minimum FPS.

A cheap/used stick of RAM should also help if you're having a lot of hitching / system paging happening (but only if its on sale or pre-owned). 2gb is very borderline but I wouldn't pay full retail price for a stick of DDR2 currently.

I'm sure you've heard this before as your name is familiar 'round these parts, but I'm tossing this advice here just in case :D

Never knew 2143 was in the pipeline ? Is that the first expansion for BF4 ?
 
No one knows if 2143 is truly in the works, but there are a couple of easter eggs hidden through out BF3 that might indicate that it is actually coming. One of the easter eggs is a label that actually says 2143, sort of like the 2142 licence plate from the BF2 Armored Fury Booster maps pre 2142 announcement (there was already a leaked 2142 test video at the time though).

Thanks mate :) I've thought of overclocking but I've never done it before and I'm scared that I will blow up my computer and possibly everything else in a 10-metre radius. Yeah... um I plan on getting a new system at some point. The main problem is they tend to cost money :D .
 
In the game I just had, I fired point-blank at a guy 4 times, then he died from someone else's fire. I got no assist. When I kill someone, it updates in the killfeed before they actually fall to the ground on my screen. The same thing happens to me. The sound keeps crapping out. I get "Kill Assist 99"s and "Kill Assist 100"s far too often. Every other issue I have vented over still happens just as frequently and/or pisses me off just as much. Nothing touches the AEK or the M16 in almost any straight-up gunfight, the submachine guns take about 10 bullets to kill anything past 10 feet, and the LMGs might as well be single-pellet automatic sawed-off shotguns for how pathetically inaccurate they are. Suppression is still the most retarded mechanic in a competitive FPS ever...it can magically change the ballistics of your gun, but you can still bunny-hop at full-speed 50 yards to cover without a care in the world.

I have never hated a game as much as this one. Every time I come back to it thinking it will be fun, I get fed shit instead and end up breaking another mouse.

Go "play" SimCity...I think you'll get more nerd rage out of it then BF3. Gotta say, I DO have some sessions that are infuriating but most of the time, especially lately, the only frustration im getting is the server bans for "hacking".
 
which modes are you guys on? I googled some of them and a lot of them seem like the same to me lol.. Im been playing tdm on noshar canal and its getting kind of boring. Need some fast paced that wouldnt last too long (15m - 20m games would be ideal)

Welcome. Just remember to do it when you start lagging. It has been this way since bf2. Usually does the trick.

anyone reason why? I was just going to leave it on for every game lol (prior to this, I was lagging in every game). Im going to try again soon and see if it still works

get close quarters if thats the style of gameplay you like. Its battlefield COD edition. No teamwork, no plan, no thinking, just run and gun like canals ;)

I feel you man. When I start noticing odd kills and shit, I usually leave and find a new server before I rage and break something. I may try that PB update option posted.

id love to explore all of that if there wasnt so much lag. Also, I just find it a lot of fun to run and gun (id play FFA over TDM if I could :D)

i bought CQ, but unfortunately no one really teams plays TDM there. But maybe ill try Domination and a couple of the other modes. I hate camping maps and enjoy something with a fast pace
