Tomb Raider reboot will make PC gamers "very, very happy"

Glad to see that Nvidia cards can run it just fine like I figured from the beginning.

Those screens on Ultra high settings 1080p don't look all that impressive to me :( Since Lara is the star I was expecting much nicer models, arm skin texture etc.

Wait...why are you getting like double the performance as your previous benchmark? What'd you change?

EDIT: Just turning DOF down?

I am getting better performance than before because these benchmarks either have DOF on Normal or TressFX off. As opposed to my first benchmark it had TressFX turned on and DOF Ultra. I managed to fix my sli issue and re-ran the benchmark with TressFX and DOF on Ultra 2560 x 1440. I am also going to re-do the benchmarks with TressFX on / DOF Normal and DOF Ultra / TressFX off. I'll post the results in a bit.

Oh yeah the first benchmark was also using 314.09 WHQL. I updated to 314.14 Beta for the latest benches

Okay here's my latest results. 314.14 Beta's SLI is ON and working. 2560 x 1440 resolution. 1202 Mhz Core and 3251 Mhz Memory for both cards. All tests are running the same settings; everything MAXED, Antialiasing set to FXAA. The only variables are TressFX ON / DOF ULTRA, TressFX ON / DOF NORMAL, TressFX OFF/ DOF ULTRA

Not really much an improvement compared to single card. I am scratching my head over this one.

The way TressFX hair moves over her shoulder looks so strange, it's like magically held above her shoulder and doesn't even come close to touching it.

How about we get 2 people to bench with the same settings;

A GTX 680 owner and a 7970 owner (stock settings preferably)

Maxed Settings @ 1080P ensuring DOF and TressFX is enabled. There seems to be alot of differences here lol

1080p, SLI disabled, settings maxed, antialiasing: FXAA, TressFX AND DOF Ultra. Stock graphic card settings, aside from boost, I guess.

Those of us without VPN's are waiting for the game to come out still. :p

so am I but there have been two people at least posting numbers from each camp, BETA has been helping out throwing his up. I am trying to see what the differences are if both settings are the same from both camps. Lots of discussion could be had for the next 5 hours if there is a significant difference. :D

All I can say is this most certainly is not an Aliens CM release. I was worried for awhile lol

Already posted my benchmark results a few pages back on a 7970, maxed settings at 1080p:

same setting as above at default clock

Looks like a stock 7970 has around a 10FPS advantage over a stock GTX 680. Pretty significant.

Nice to see both camps getting the same fps in the game. I'd like to see more DirectCompute programming from companies in the future. I hope other companies take notice and do it.

I want to see more Nvidia owners post their TressFX benchmarks...the game doesn't unlock for me and my GTX 580 for 5 more hours

It is a lot less than what people were thinking though so I am glad that is not all that much considering a lot of developers might take advantage of this tech unlike Physx.

Why the fuck are you guys posting pics so goddamn big? Thumbnail MOFO ffs.

9:00 PST is the same as 12:00 EST...so the game will unlock at the same time for both of us :D

Agreed. I expected it to be a big difference. I hope it gets some support from developers. I wonder if it will run well on the PS4 and Nextbox.

What is really cool is that AMD used open source code to make this tech so that even Nvidia can use it, that's pretty cool. Now if Nvidia can get more raw power they might be able to utilize this tech -- which I imagine will be common on next gen console games (read: most of the games we will be playing are going to be ports from AMD based consoles. Don't think for a moment that AMD wont utilize DC to get an advantage in the next few years.)

Seriously we have people here that can build a custom water-cooled system but apparently don't know how to thumbnail a screenshot. It happens in every thread.

I think they just want to make sure that their pic stands out...then the next guy posts a full screen pic because he is afraid to post a smaller pic...

god damn it. AMD has yet to email my the code for the activation, I am getting pissed here. Emailed them on friday and this morning and they have yet to email me anything.

check your spam box? Its getting close I dunno I would think you'd have it by now

how are we so sure about this?...there's been a very small sample size to make that sort of determination yet...there's a reason Nvidia is being silent about this new feature while AMD is creating websites dedicated to TressFX...they must know that AMD performance is much higher...similar to DiRT 3 benchmarks...if Nvidia felt they could match or only have a slight performance loss compared to AMD then they would be making a bigger deal about this new hair rendering feature

Building a water loop is like working on a V8 car. Thumbnail some images is like deciding between mauve or pink for curtains. Real men don't pick out curtains.

RAWR!!!

Its not theirs to publicize, AMD is looking for ways to sell videocards. Nvidia doesnt really have a problem atm. I would say its probably a good indication of performance between the two unless AMD nets some massive gains with driver improvements and nvidia failed to increase thier numbers imo.

? Thumbnails still load the same image data.

It's the fact that they break tables. Most forums have rules about this sort of thing because it makes threads annoying to read.

Teselation makes the game HARD LOCK for SLI user using the SLI Profile, so i play with it OFF for the moment, because if i enable it, it takes 2 minutes and it crash.

Happen to a LOT of people on guru3d.. all with SLI

My damn game keeps crashing everytime I play, happens at least within 20 minutes of playing. I have been going crazy adjusting my PC settings and finally googled to see if it's something about the game. Turns out a lot of people are having issues with this game and tesselation. I haven't tried it for myself yet, going to now. Let's see if that is the culprit. People are blaming drivers, but complainyd are not consistent. Some people with Nvidia cards are gaming fine, but a lot are definitely experiencing issues.
