Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Build diversity in D2 is far superior than D3, I have a Zeal / Guide arrow Sorc with full enchantment. It was extremely fun to play with while everyone else seems to be shock at my build..

But too bad, D3 doesn't allow anything like this, which is the primary reason why I give up. The entire game just doesn't feel right and no more fast pace feeling :(

Sounds like you didn't like D2 very much and didn't play D2 very much. Many people played D2 for years (far far longer than it seems anyone can remain interested in D3), yet you apparently figure yourself to be the go-to source on what people did in that game and on what people liked and didn't like about that game.

They probably should have designed the game with serious fans in mind (you know, the people that actually take the time to write up those build guides people look up), instead of designing it for players like you since you just got bored with the game anyway. But at least now we're all equally bored: bland for all!

WTF are you talking about? I played D2 from release until the last stint which was just before D3 came out. We picked it up and got hooked.. then it faded.

When 1.07 hits we will probably be back.

Thanks for thinking you know me though.

I have said repeatly on this thread that more content would be nice.

1.0.7 patch notes (sorry I find diablofans easier to digest patch notes on mobile)

http://www.diablofans.com/

I really wish they make pickup radius work on ALL stackable items (gems, infernal crafting pieces, tomes).

I'm wondering how the wiz changes will affect my build (eternal archon)

At least in terms of build diversity, i feel that D2 still had more. Too many shitty runes in D3. There were ALLL sorts of sorcs builds which were viable, even melee ones. I had probably 8 or so sorcs with different builds, for different purposes.

Also, even though you endlessly grind the same content in both D2 and D3, there was still more variety in D2.

In D3, i run Act 3 for XP, and Hellfire rings.

In D2, i did Baal, Pindleskin, The Pit, Mephisto, Andarial, Tristram, Cows, probably some others i'm forgetting.

btw: holy shit were cow runs fuckin sweet on my javazon

I think replayability is the key to all this. Just an example. In D2, I remember playing through six different barbs all through hell difficulty- frenzy barb, concentrate barb, berserk barb, ww barb, and a throwing barb. All these barbs also had varying weapon masteries as well. In D3, I played a barb, got some Paragon levels, and didn't really care much after that to start a new one. Same with a demon hunter and monk. Maxed out, got some paragon levels, and didn't care to start a new character of the same class since I had all the skills and stats are auto assigned so there is nothing different about starting a new char.

patch mentions new gems and improved rubys

result:

price of the only good gem skyrockets (emerald to 27M)

price of the ruby skyrockets (to 28M)

the other two crappy gems remain asleep

there are 1.5 good monk builds. the gear to become decent is super rare and expensive. it is a very unbalanced class in every way I can think. their attempt to fix this will probably fail again. they'll probably make the two good monk builds stronger, and everyone will continue to use the same list of skills.

what they will succeed in doing is raising prices on some fancy unknown monk items, like perfect stones of jordan, big damage dex 2H weapons, and the xeph amulet.

my theory is they'll make the 2 good monk builds too good, and the other 98 potential builds will remain unused turds. that is what all past actions indicate. here come the expensive overpowered monks

Prices for gems have been climbing in recent days already. They were already 28 million today a few hours ago according to my friend.

The new tier gems will most likely all be around the same price. Emeralds me be slightly more. You're forgetting that different classes use different primary stats. It's not as if topaz isn't used by any class. Set armors will still be socketted by the primary stat, int included.

1.0.7 is so hot. Group battle is all i wanted and now I have it (well in a few weeks). I don't care about ranking or any of that shit.

My monk is going to be off Cain's chain after this patch. My Amulet could sell for so much more now.Buildlink like a billion.

Damage on the current spirit spells is plenty high going higher is pure craziness...good craziness because I currently use the spirit spells.

Wizard I finally get to use your orb again.

Nailed it.

You're basically saying only crit gems are valuable and rubies might increase in value. There are other slots beside weapon slots. All gems will go up in value.

But I guess you're too slow to pick up on that. Quit trolling this post if you hate the game so much. You sound like a crying baby.

I was slightly excited about the new "bind on pickup" crafting recipes, but honestly, even with a guaranteed main stat, getting a good ideal combination of gear is still astronomically low. The AH has the power of the numbers, so the sheer probability of finding good gear on there at a decent price is not so bad. Getting a great roll with crafting alone however, seems difficult to fathom. It's not a bad addition if the cost isn't high though, just something that you can leisurely do with a press of a button once in a while until you get lucky.

The new recipes are just another time sink like the Hellfire ring, but just without having to do ubers for materials. I wonder how much higher the primary stats will be in these recipes. I think I'd start just crafting wrists since there's only one damage mod on wrists. Trying to get trifecta on gloves is gonna be insane.

not anymore. Auction house is all but dead with the exception of the 100 million + Items and even those aren't that good. This helps make a game that survive without an auction house and its nothing but a good thing.

I'm interested in seeing how this pans out. Haven't played for a few weeks but this will get me back for a while

You're basically saying only crit gems are valuable and rubies might increase in value.

Not might. Did. They did increase in value when the patch notes were released. Ruby increased because they are getting better. Emerald increased because that is by far the most popular and expensive gem. If the others increased any, they increased less than those.

The way the patch notes read:

We also took the opportunity to modify the Ruby effect in weapons. At the moment, the Critical Hit damage bonus provided by the Emerald is a clear choice for anybody looking to do more damage with their weapon. The new tier Ruby is a significant bump up that should make it the preferred choice for those who favor attack speed over Critical Hit chance, or for those who use skills which do not benefit as much from Critical Hit such as Sentry and Hydra.

Players often ask why their Sentry or Hydra doesn't inherit their Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Damage. The answer is that we want players to be able to build their characters in different ways, and we would rather Critical Hit Chance and Critical Hit Damage weren’t always automatically the right answer. While this is not something that will change overnight, "different stats for different builds" is a high-level design goal and introducing a very strong Ruby is a step in the right direction.

The current design is that these gems can be combined at the Jeweler for a substantial reagent and gold cost (3 Radiant Star gems, 20 million gold, and 1 Demonic Essence), and the designs will drop randomly from level 63 monsters around the world.

It sounds like only the new uber-expensive top tier "Marquise" ruby is going to be an improvement, not all rubies. So I guess they consider grinding out 100M+ gold to be something players actually want to do?

How much pure dmg it would need to make to have any chance of being better than 100% more crit dmg ?

How much pure dmg it would need to make to have any chance of being better than 100% more crit dmg ?

It depends on gear and buffs. The way the calculations work out, it could be a lot or a little.

http://d3up.com/b/257729#gear

For me, 1 crit dmg is 431 dps, while 1 dmg is equivalent to 108dps. so the gem would have to do something like around +400 avg damage to equal a 100% crit gem. Of course this isnt designed for slow 1handers like my build. But even with a 1.65 socketed weapon, that number has to be significantly higher than what it is now.

What will be fun is throwing one of those on a lvl 15 character with a socket weapon. MASSIVE DAMAGE.

I understand they're trying to come up with more money sinks, but I dont like the cost of this (3 radiant gems plus another 20 mil). They need more creative ways to come up with money sinks. Maybe take a book from TL2 and purchase extra enhancements at a cost. Basically pay money to turn any 4 or 5 affix rare into a 6 affix rare, with no reversal. You may not get anything better, but it should never get worse. You can take a lot of money out of the economy as people purchase 4 and 5 affix to turn those potential bi or trifecta gloves to trifect + main stat. Even with a low cost like 250k per, people would jump on this and sink millions to try to turn good gear into better gear.

You should suggest things like this to Blizzard directly. They actually do a pretty good job of listening to suggestions and finding a way, if the suggestion makes sense of course, to work it in. I definitely like what you proposed as a possible money sink though.

I love the idea of turning a 4 or 5 affix rare item into a 6 affix. It's a kind of guaranteed gambling which could improve the item or add a useless affix. With a high gold amound, that would make it a good money sink.

Another idea is to add a socket to a item like D2. More definitely, redo crafting to make use of the white items which get dropped instead of being useless (the better the base item quality, the better the chances of rolling some good stats).

They REALLLLY should do this.

On the whole though, i'm excited to try out the new content and know that it'll bring me back for a bit again. It sounds like they're buffing unused Wizard spells, which is great. They just better not nerf meteor again.

The comment on "monster density"... he says it didn't make into Inferno, but I've a question: does that mean monster density has changed in the other difficulty levels? Are there more/larger mobs in the game at this point other than in Inferno in Acts I & II?

I stopped playing a long time ago, for a variety of reasons, but if there are more enemies in each act in every area, I might jump back in and check it out.

I think he was talking about buffing monster density in acts that aren't 3, and that they plan to do it but it didn't make it into the upcoming patch.

Yes, that's what I'm asking. It's making it sound like monster density has been buffed already, just not in Inferno, which didn't make this last patch.

But it sounds implied that it's already been done for the other difficulty levels. Is that true?

Has density been upped in all other difficulties in other acts to coincide with Act III?

I don't care about Inferno level quite yet, but if there are more enemies in all other acts in other difficulties, it could draw me back in... maybe. I just don't know if it's been done, it just sounds implied.

Unless Inferno is the only difficulty they're buffing monster density in?
Can someone clarify this for me?

D3 definitely needs more/larger mobs in all acts in all difficulties.

Grats! It must have been one hell of a grind. I think I'm still stuck somewhere in the mid 60s. The next patch will offer more exp boosts though, so I shouldn't use my energy to grind right now ;)

Grats... I'm not even half-way at P60. After I get to P78 (halfway) I'm not sure if I'll be more excited, or if I'll just cry.

Crying is when you realize paragon 91 is only 75% of the way done. :p

I had a goal which I almost didn't meet. I start grad school this week, so I wanted to hit cap before classes start. I would have missed it if class was scheduled for today, but one class is such that all students must meet with the prof so we can schedule a time convenient for all of us. So I got to stay home and ding 100.

Finally got to toss this stupid ruby from my hat and this crappy Hellfire ring. Finding that Mempo with crit was only icing.

I thought it was 92... well either way. I've been following this thread and watching your posts about progress to 100 (starting at ten levels a week). I still think that's attainable from 60-70 with a lot of hours to play... past that, I think it's impossible. I'm guessing 90-100 takes at least 3 weeks even with a lot of play time, unless you're just playing for 18 hours+.

Oh, fkna. :(

I'm just about to hit 90. Think after I hit it, I'm done till after 1.07. RNG has been a bitch the last few days (NO legendary drops in my last dozen runs or so..wth?). Need a break anyway. Hell, I still haven't even installed some games I got over the holiday.

Although, I am looking forward to crafting a badass amulet in 1.07....hope the mat/crafting cost is reasonable.

Sounds about right, though if memory serves me right, I went from 59 to 78 in a week. Something like that. I may be wrong. That was a while back. But yea, after 70 it def takes a lot more dedication. There were many days I didn't even play or just logged in and stayed logged in to check AH. I didn't really feel the crunch til I hit 80. I lost a lot of steam at that point and played less. What I realized in leveling paragon was that in the higher levels, I really needed a distraction so to speak to push myself to level. I found that distraction when I played with other friends. Yea, they were basically mooching since most of my friends are under geared or just moderately geared. But it helped. Plus it feels kinda nice to help folks level. I didn't mind them mooching.

Got a friend from mid 40s paragon up to 83 this way. He just tagged along and we'd duo mp1. My only thing was that I wouldn't wait for him to catch up. If he IDed stuff that was his loss of xp because I wasn't gonna let him slow me down. He knew this. It was fine. I'd res him though if he fell.

Save your brims because blue confirmed at least one recipe will require brims to make and maybe more. BoA amulets are confirmed to require brims right now. I was tracking prices earlier and brims went up to 67k at one point.

I almost unloaded mine, but figured, meh. I'll play the crafting game. I have 240 brims...all from salvaging stuff I got from paragon 11 - 100.

sunday during my leveling runs, I found a trifecta Blackthorne's Duncraig Cross and the only two other matches are both over 500 millions. I decided to put a starting bid of 100 millions without any BIN and someone already put that but I can't check before tonight how much I got paid...

That along with last week's Strongarm Bracers with 250 str that I sold for over 45 millions and it's a great week for me finally after never getting more than 5 millions in a auction since release day (I never stopped playing).

Congratulations to Harkamus for dinging 100 !! It's a awesome feat. I'm currently at paragon level 30 with my current monk (already surpassed my DH with 1/3 of the time, thanks to the leoric signets and hellfire rings doing Alkaizer runs - I currently need 3 Alk runs per paragon level).

As for the brimstones, the last price as of yesterday fell to 17k per brim, so I guess it's a bust. I decided to hold on them till actual good recipes get released with 1.0.7 hopefully and drive the price higher.

New gems are an excercise in stupidity.

This will be good, MP4 might be my sweet spot again

Critical Mass
Critical Mass now affects the cooldowns of Archon: Teleport and Archon: Slow Time while in Archon Form

What do you mean new gems? Did they actually release patch notes or something? All i heard was that they were going to buff rubies for weapons.

PTR patch notes have been available for a few days now even before PTR went up today. There is a new tier of gem being introduced when 1.0.7 goes live.

And they will cost an arm and a leg.
