Another minor difference between PS2 and BF3 is how you spawn. You cannot spawn on a squad mate.

You can spawn at the nearest location your faction has control over. You can also spawn on some vehicles. Last I played they were doing away with spawning on Galaxies. This still true? You could also spawn on whatever the big trucks were, cant remember their name.

So nothing is keeping you from driving/flying one of those into a base, landing it, and keeping some engineers on it as everyone spawns there.

You can cert into having spawning on galaxies, sunderers, and even people if you decide to lead squads a lot.
 
I really need to get back into this game. I'd like to see my whole BF crew migrate over to this. Especially since its going to be F2P.

They took the spawning away from galaxies several patches ago when they gave it to the Sunderer (bus with two top mounted guns) afaik. The Sunderer deployment that allows ppl to spawn at it is a cert as well.

You can also spend cert points for a squad beacon that can be placed on the ground (and destroyed) for your squad (not platoon) to spawn at for a limited time and it has a cooldown
 
I love the teamwork I've been finding with the NC on Indar
Hour long battles between coordinated platoons of 48 people revive the FPS genre for me.
 
So can someone explain to me why there are loads of people saying that the lattice system is better than the hex system? I guess simplify why the systems are different, if you would?
 
The game is great however my opinionated gripes thus far based on the current beta progress.

1. No performance optimizations at all. Recently they did a minor one which netted me 30-40fps avg in major battles, and much better fps in non-battle situations. Its unplayable at that fps for me.

2. Netcode is awful still. I consider BF3 fantastic, this is much worse.

Been playing a little every day since beta launched . Still waiting to be wowed by the game on the technical end.

Performance improved a lot this patch. It doesn't seem so CPU limted anymore. It's still only taxing my GTX 680 to about 80%. Better than the 40% it was at before.

nice, i updated but haven't gotten on yet.. will have to try it here in a bit. who knows my 8800GT's might actually go above 40% load.

nope performance still the same for me.. so sick of these games not fully using quad cores.. its not 2004 anymore why can't game developers comprehend this crap.

Yeah I got an email a couple hours ago saying I was in the beta. Guessing they did a huge invite.

Hopefully will have time to try it out in the next couple days.
 
I started updating my beta client before I went to bed last night. This morning, my boot drive order was re-arranged to my D drive aka storage where the game is installed. So the game managed to re-order the boot drive sequence in my bios.

Sweet programming.................

Sounds like another issue that coincidentally happened when you installed the game.

Nope. Uninstalled the game and no more issues. Did a reinstall and same issue within 10 minutes. Pretty sure the game caused it. Now, this won't happen to everyone. I am currently checking to make sure I am fully updated and will try again but it WAS the game update I am fairly sure. I do use a ssd as just a boot drive and a 1tb D drive as my gaming drive. Might be an issue there.
 
Amerish is jaw dropping IMO. Makes Indar look like a pile of trash. I never have really cared for desert environments.
 
I remember the first one was pretty good looking also. The thing that destroyed it, at least for me, was the grass. You were forced to turn it off, otherwise you'd pay by getting killed time and time again, thinking you were hidden from view, at least partially.

How is the case here? Same stuff?

Either force it on or don't put in that stuff in at all IMO. People won't bother with it if it just will screw them over in the end.

I haven't really played with Amerish and the graphical settings thus far TBH. Regardless it still looks awesome. I only did a quick fly around with a Reaver to check it out. They really turned down the fog, so you really the the feeling of huge big the map is now.
 
I just asked Smedley on Twitter about STEAM and the plan is to have it launch on STEAM same day/date as the stand alone game.

i've updated the game about 30 times now since beta started and never seen that happen unless you are using windows 8 or something.
 
Been playing the hell out of beta and its just getting better so I bought Alpha Squad and some of that triple cash yesterday.

Go VS! :D
 
Alpha squad name reservation was supposed to start about 5 hours ago and they've managed to fuck up the form about 20 times since then, now everyone is scrambling to get their names and spamming the page and going mental on the forums.

What a complete and total mess, I hope this isn't a glimpse of what is to come.
 
Game is pretty fun, but I think I'll have to pass on getting the real game. Games where people can just buy all of the upgrades/weapons/vehicle mods/etc ruin it for me. Hard stuff should have to be earned, not earned by how much cash in your pockets. You basically have no freaking chance in a flying vehicle with no upgrades vs someone who bought every single one.

Working now, if you registered around 10:20 or close to it you need to re-do.
 
Man, the alpha is just killing my rig. Any suggestions on settings? THe game looks bad on anything but high :/

Single 1920x1200 monitor and my sig rig I average 10-30fps in battles, 30-60fps in lower pop areas. The 20fps battles just makes the game not fun. Current settings are 1920x1200 res and mostly high(a few medium) settings.
 
So there was a bug in the Alpha Squad name registration system, they are wiping it (again) and re doing the name registration on Nov 7th 7am PST

Also new patch is apparently going live that fixes most of the crashes.
 
Currently waiting and hoping this game gets it together. It looks great and has tremendous potential but...
 
Been playing more and more despite a mediocre first impression a few weeks ago. The new continent is fun, and night cycles really make you adjust play style. The scale when an entire team, or nearly that, is organized is amazing. Having multiple galaxies with liberator and fighter escorts heading to a base with tanks and sunderers rolling below during a night battle, then AA tracers and missiles light up the sky and enemy interceptors dive in, explosions everywhere and tank shells starting to fire off. It's an amazing feeling.
 
is this game worth trying again? i got in a long time ago and i played like two matches and said fuck this.

Give it a shot again. Try out NC, hit P and join a big squad/platoon on Amerish and try some teamwork. It's pretty fun.
