MSI GTX 670 Power Edition Twin Frozr 4!

But when the heck is this card coming out??? I was all excited about the 670's price-to-performance, i bought a Asus DirectCU II Top 670 and got burned, RMA'ed it and now i cant play any of my games cause im using my backup GTS 250 512Mb....so im stuck waiting for MSI to release this card...or Asus to announce that they are aware of the Top issue and soon the cards being sold will work right...or something.

I read in the comments section somewhere that those "Frozr" coolers can get loud, is that true? Do we think the Frozr 4 will be too? While i had the Top, it spoiled me cause it was dead silent at full load.

Im so tired of waiting...waited for Z77/ Ivy Bridge...waited for the new AMD cards...waited a bit more for Nvidia...waited for Asus Top...RMA'ed it and now waiting for good 670's to become available.

are you talking about the 680 lightning or the 670 PE/OC?

the PE/OC is out right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127685

Did it just release? I swear i searched all 670's yesterday and it wasnt there. Does [H] or anyone have a review of it? I'd love to know the answer to the fan noise level, and also how does it OC? Im not like in search for the perfect OC'ing card to hit "1300MHz" but when owning the Top it was cool that it boost clocked to 1205MHz (way above its rated boost) and the possibility of pushing it further was also pretty cool.

yes it was released this morning

There will always be something faster, better, or higher voltage around the corner. Buy now, glory in the high resolutions. It's what I did. RMA'd my ASUS TOP, bought a Galaxy 670 GC today, then saw this. I could have canceled my order and gotten the MSI, but my Galaxy 670 comes tomorrow and will do me fine and is $30 cheaper (I tried spending $30 more with the TOP and that didn't work out so well). If the Galaxy doesn't work properly, then I'll return it and try this, but only if.

Do we know there will be a 670 Lightning or is it a given? Also what is the difference? What does the lightning bring to the table?

I'm responding to your inquiry about the noise...

I've had 2 MSI TF models, a 275 and my current 570, and they idle at near total silence. Often times, my front intake fans are the loudest in my case at any RPM. Under load, the fans never get above 45%, because the heatsink is so effective they don't have to. I have manually set them for 100% before just to try it out, and they were quite audible, but nothing severe. To my ears, anyway. That being said, I wouldn't run them above their seemingly 45% pre-set max because I like a quiet computer. I think you'll find the noise output completely satisfactory.

Thank you. I would be shocked if they were louder than the 670 Top i had...cause they are both two fan setups and look like similar fan sizes...how bad could the blade design be that they are that much louder. Your right though, even if they are loud at %100 and the Asus Top isnt...the top seemed to be at around that 40-50% fan speed when at full load, so i bet the MSI 670 would be right there too, and silent.

Im sooo tempted to order it and be happy, but it will be slightly disappointing if i order it first day and then reviews come out and they dont like something about it...and it cant OC for crap and stuff. :/

The twin frozr 4 is definitely NOT loud. Unless you use 90% manual fan or something, it is pretty quiet from what I have heard.

This is with my own ears in comparison to other coolers i've heard, its not noisy.

Msi lineup:

Lightning = top

Hawk = 2nd teir

Power Edition = 3rd teir

Twin Frozer = 4th teir

Im just trying to weigh my options...it would kinda suck to get the PE and then next week Hawk is out and is $10 more than the PE...but even if it was, are we most likely talking about a few FPS difference in real world gaming? (PE vs Hawk).

I doubt they will come out with a hawk edition for the 670....hawk edition cards are reserved for mid range cards such as the GXT 460 and GTX 560. The 560 had a hawk, and the 570 had a PE/OC

From the research i did after posting that question (on newegg, looking up MSI cards) i was suspecting that. The higher end cards didnt have a Hawk.
Do you think its smart to assume the 670 PE (MSI) will boost pretty close to what the Top 670 & Gigabyte Windforce boost too?
Id say thats just about the only thing holding me back from making the purchase right now. Their boosting to 1205-1250MHz is great (esp when the box/specs say they should boost too 1137MHz (Top) and 1058MHz (Windforce).
So for now its really Windforce ($399) vs PE/OC ($429) personally. Im asking these questions btw because i dont want to be a jerk/waste money and just order the MSI PE/OC and get it...it only boost to 1180MHz and so i return it or something. Not really a customer move i wanna make (even though i know you can return for any reason in 30 days) but then i would pay $12 shipping, and 15% restocking fee.

I would advise staying away from Asus TOP...too many issues with cards being unstable at stock....now don't get me wrong, the MSI card can be like that as well...a few weeks prior to Asus 670 TOP going live, everybody was all hyped up about it and saying the TOP card is the end all of all 670's...turned out to be a flop IMO

With the WF3, you're pretty much guaranteed a working card out of the box....the fans/cooler are also great...I use to own two WF3 models...and it was a great setup....however, overclocking is a major toss up....my cards would NOT overclock past 1200mhz...it was that bad...sure they were stable at stock, but they would not overclock for crap

If you want a great overclocker, then I would check out the MSI PE/OC....its the only card that allows voltage control..you just have to be careful though...cuz I have a slight feeling these might become flopped cards as well (similar to Asus)

Oh i know, i bought a Top 670, believe me i know lol. Yeah i will slap myself if the PE/OC 670 i am going to order in a bit (decided to give it a shot) doesnt live up to expectations and then my last resort...the windforce..ends up being the first resort i should have gotten in the first place lol. Oh well.
Sometime next week i will reply back with my experience with the MSI 670 PE/OC. I am ordering it now. Gonna take the risk and go for it.

kudos to you for being a guinea pig....once i start seeing a good 20 people or so who report no issues with the PE/OC, then i might just pull the trigger

Haha, hopefully my happiness or sorrow will benefit you. I had too...i was really getting into playing a lot of BF3 and Skyrim and Batman AC and then i built the new PC, waited for 670...got the Top, had to return, and now waiting...not able to play those games on even the lowest settings with my GTS 250. And the new BF3 expansion released so i am jonesing to play my games.

**My best Rodney Dangerfield Voice** "I get no respect!!"

When I say there might be a MSI 670 Hawk, I mean it!!!

Good luck, sir... please do let us know if it is overvoltable past the 1.175v stock limit :D!

Awesome man. I think I speak for many here when I say we look forward to your feedback, particularly about voltage control.

While I'm very satisfied with my Gigabyte 670, I actually have a 14 day refund RMA open on it right now, that I opened at the last minute due to choke whine at high FPS levels, like while playing Diablo III without v-sync on. It's really minor, but I figured I'd get a RMA ticket open just so I had options.

I'll probably keep my current card but if the initial reports of this MSI card come in strong enough, I just might consider a last minute switch.

Theres one review up on newegg. Not very helpful yet but claims they will update later on.

The cd has up to date software. It runs smooth on the burn in and I can't wait to really start gaming on it tonight will update later with temps and over clock speeds. But during break in it never peaked offer 40c

Never over 40C? Sounds a little ridiculous but yeah. I would like to see some more reviews start rolling in. Im assuming voltage will be adjustable via afterburner if it is possible. Probably similar to some of the AMD cards with the bios switches that increase the limits. Hopefully this is the case.

That user review sounds like a load of crap. I ordered one the night newegg got them in stock. I won't get it until Tuesday, and unfortunately I'll be at work the entire day. But I promise I'll throw up my impressions with detailed info Wednesday evening.

A piss poor review from tweaktown but a review none the less. Absolutely no mention of voltage at all. So whatever I guess but here it is:

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/47...b_overclocked_video_card_review/DV/index.html

hmm, doesn't really say much....but I'm certainly looking out for user reviews! My guess is that most of them will come out this week with first impressions. Newegg currently has 15 left in stock, and had about 100 last week....so the reviews are coming soon!

Mine arrived today, 1.175v is still the limit... and for some reason my power percent refuses to go above 98% even with a power target of 114%. and I'm reaching the core overclock limit here. Any thoughts?

Using MSI Afterburner?

using EVGA precision. Not bad a bad card though. so far, I've got the core to 1323mhz. haven't touched the memory yet.

what are you using to stress test? If you have BF3, I would give that a shot

I just noticed BF3 uses the power target more than Heaven...Heaven I'll be chilling around 90 to 95, and BF3 I'll definitely see above 100 in some cases

1300+ anything is a great OC isnt it? Either these cards are great or you got a premo card. I will find out and report back my experience with mine tomorrow which is when it arrives. My current plan is at stock to run Heaven for 30-60 minutes max everything, then play BF3 for a while. If (hopefully, i pray) everything goes perfect, i will start OC'ing and see how far my specific card can go.
As far as technique to OC the card....do i just raise the power limit to like 110% then slowly raise the core clock 10MHz at a time with Afterburner, running Heaven for 30 minutes every time i raise it? Havent OC'ed a GPU before.

Try the newest version of Afterburner to see if you can get some higher voltage adjustments.

with afterburner 221, the core voltage slider is greyed out for me. either I'm stupid or the power edition is capped at 1.175v like every other gtx 670.
please tell me I'm stupid lol
