AMD Cat 12.6 "JUNE 6" Unoffical Beta release

I can now vouch that two 7970s in crossfire KICK ALL SORTS OF ASS in eyefinity!!!!

I am running three samsung s27a750s @ 5760x1080 120hz with a sniper 3 mobo, 3770k ocd to 4.5ghz and crossfire is running like butter with these new drivers! So far I have tested BF3, Mafia II, & Crysis and its running as smooth as a single card

Take a look at my GPU usage in crysis with these drivers:
crysisgpuusage2.jpg

Now compare that to my GPU usage with crisis using the 12.6 drivers & cap1

We are running very similar setups (same monitors with crossfire). I'm trying to understand your comparison between "these drivers" and "12.6 drivers". Aren't these 12.6 beta drivers? The driver release version matches the previous 12.6 beta that I have installed. Is there something different that I'm missing?

Currently, I get scaling across 2 of my 3 cards in Skyrim and it's a little choppy still. Batman: AC run fricking fantastic on these drivers, utilizes all 3 cards and is running HD3D across 3 eyefinity monitors without missing a beat. It took me 6 months to get here, but damn is it pretty.

I guess we can look forward to an official [H] test later this week. :)

As is mentioned in the title these are unofficial beta drivers. you cannot get these from AMD's website. the 12.6 beta drivers from amd website are the official ones. The unoffical version is more recent and multi GPU performance is very good as people are experiencing.

Not having any issues with these drivers although I am down to just one 7970 on a single monitor.

Qucik side note.. anyone else have virus issues with this download? After getting these drivers Norton tagged about a dozen infections with "unknown" as the origin. I was not doing anything else at the time. Norton found: Suspicious.Cloud.7.F in the atiumdag.dll.

I just re downloaded it again from the first location on the list of 3 and all was fine.. Scanned with ESET NOD32 version 5. Hate to say it but Nortons sucks.

You can get ESET NOD32 Version 4 "3 user" for $20 after code on product page http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832114008. Buying an older version is no big deal as the key will work for version 5.. infact just download and install version 5 and then insert your key and it will work.. or if you already installed version 4 just upgrade it to version 5 for free.

Norton Antivirus is a piece of shit. I've long held the belief that Norton products often flash messages that they found something or are doing something in order to make people think their software actually works, or is necessary. As far as antivirus goes it may be commercially successful, but its bottom of the barrel software at best.

Kaspersky is a great, but often overlooked, AV. A large software company I used to work for integrated it into it's suite (several years ago) after doing quite extensive research.

Anti-Virus programs are the biggest scam. I reinstall my OS every three months...viruses or not, crap tends to accumulate deep within windows registry and kernels...crap that compromises your computers speed and security. So for me, its easier to take a few hours every 3-4 months and reload everything back on, which is actually not too much of a hassle versus the benefits

lol.. dont sound very smart.. Sure reinstalling every once in a while is good to do but not runing any sort of anti-virus program is doing you and everyone else a disservice. I guess you'll never know if you have a virus or not untill your ISP contacts you after you notice they have blocked email or what not till you take care of the problem.

Theres freeware anti-virus software out there if needed.. NOD32 uses the least system resorces so you'll never feel it runing on your system. Scans emails coming and going and anything coming down the pipe into your system before theres a problem.

Can find it on sale a couple of times a year so when its on sale for $20 snag it. Piece of mind and better for everyone else if everyone has something on there system so to keep the spread of viruses down.

This is retarded. This is like saying, STD's don't exist because I've never seen any symptoms from unprotected sex.

Can anyone comment on 6900 series crossfire which still ain't no limp dick?

what issues have you been having?

I have been running 69xx xfire of some sort for over a year with no issues in playing games, esp not BF3 since launch

lol. I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials, it's very "lite".

NOD32 not finding anything is hardly definitive. Maybe NOD32 sucks. :p I was just wondering if anyone else had issues. ;)

How did this thread go from [H]ard multi-gpu convo to {S}oft anti-virus crap? Take your safety yellow vests to the kiddie section yall and lets talk about Powwaaah.

NO ONE FUCKN CARES ABOUT AV... get back on topic with GPU stuff please.

I did a complete driver sweep/uninstall install of these 12.6 beta June 4 or whatever drivers and my CCC is still showing software version 12.4 what gives? Oh and my 6990 is still not smooth in tri-screen bf3.

This is an issue I've had with beta drivers in the past with the information in CCC not being correct, but it's never been anything more than a slight irritant. To make sure it's installed correctly, go to Device Manager and look up the "display adapter" information. Go to the driver tab and look at the version and make sure it reads 8.980.0.0.

AMD probably concentrated on the 7000 series with these. As is typically the case, the older dual GPU cards get the least support once the newest generation arrives despite needing more attention than most cards would by their very nature.

THIS^^^^^^

You need to ditch the 6000s tangoseal and get a pair of 7970s

Tried installing them going from 12.3 but that caused explorer to stop responding whenever I try and launch CCC. I then did what I have had to do every time I want to install a new AMD driver release. Driver Sweeper in safe mode then install new driver. I know people say this isn't necessary anymore but I have never been able to simply install the next driver without doing this since making the switch to the red team...

At any rate they seem to be stable so far but I still have screen flickering on the desktop from time to time.

It isn't necessary to do that most of the time. I'm not sure why people have trouble with it. I uninstall the old version and then simply install the new version. Works every time. I've even been able to install over the existing driver without removing it. Works fine for me with both NVIDIA and AMD drivers. .

Agreed. We got some Dell PCs for intraoffice work a year or so ago that came with Norton something or other installed.....arrrrgh, what a waste of time. Took a good bit of time to get it off there. They were always flashing something irrelevant.

At home I use either Eset or Avira depending on the importance of the computer. Obviously Avira is free, don't mind paying for Eset.

On a separate note......my 12.4 driver set shows Catalyst 12.6 in CCC.
I second the motion on using a driver cleaner when changing AMD drivers. I don't generally with my nvidia computer, just use their uninstaller; but with AMD I have had problems in the past 12 months so I tend to uninstall>sweep>reinstall and it has reduced my aggrevation.

I try that every time and it never works. Even a fresh install of Windows doesn't solve the problem. Love my 6970 but AMD drivers blow hard. :D

Performance in BF3 is amazing- getting over 120FPS in multiplayer (and depending on the map even close to 200FPS), with everything maxed out at 1080P. However, I am having a problem since updating - every once and awhile the system freezes up when it goes to sleep. Any ideas?

Did you disable ULPS? That fixed the same issue for me a few versions back. The short instructions to do this are:

Fire up regedit
cntrl-f for "EnableUlps"
Change any Enable Ulps DWORDs to 0
F3 to repeat, but.... IGNORE THE EnableUlps_NA entries!

It's slightly harder to find the instructions w/ google than you'd think, but they can be found.

It does say it. Thanks for showing me that. It is probably just programming where they didnt change it to 12.6 in the software version screen.

BF3 is just weak on 6990. I have to put it on low graphics to play at 5760x1200 smoothly.

Then again I am only on one 6990 right now. I am really eyeballing big keplar when it comes out if it comes out and if it is going to be what all this hype is about. Until I just cant justify getting 7970's right now. They are so expensive and I just dont know if it is worth the expense for me right now. Maybe some of you can talk me into it but I always like to skip a generation. Maybe go for AMD's 8970 when it comes out or whatever the naming convention will be. However I am sitting on a badass mofo of a box in my sig with all these extra PCI-e lanes just sitting there not being used sigh.

My CCC has been stuck saying 12.4 for a while now, even though I've been bouncing around between versions. Which driver sweeper do you recommend, I saw a few of them when I googled it.

How can a fresh OS install not solve the problem?

Perhaps I should have made it more clear. With a fresh OS install I can install drivers with no problem. I STILL however cannot update them to a newer version without issue. Not on my machine anyways...

So for instance, after a fresh OS install I can install say 12.3 and it goes fine. However if I try to move to 12.4 or 12.6 I get errors and CCC won't launch and it crashes explorer. My system is 100% stable beyond this problem and I never had this issue with Nvidia. Just my experience. Not saying its this way with everyone this is just what happens to me.

OK. Now it makes more sense.

You skipped the wrong GPU gen. My one Asus cuII 7970 delivered a much, much better gaming experience than my old 6990. Now that the asus is paired with another 7970, I have to say they blow the doors off of a 6990. You should be able to find used 7970s in the $400 range and you should get about $400 for your 6990

These drivers are, hands down, the smoothest, best performing drivers I've used yet for 7970 CF in BF3. Everything that used to bug me has been fixed. Ambient Occlusion no longer cripples the experience with mouselag and FPS loss, and CF microstuttering has been really brought under control, 80FPS no longer feels like 40.

10 out of 10. Would recommend again.

last time i used driver sweeper, my perfect setup started crashing and causing me instability.

Since then i've got a new machine, and while i was still getting problems, 12.6 solved everything.

I'm getting smoother performance with a single card in Batman Arkham City. So I'd say single card users of the 7950 or 7970 should give these a go.
