The fan layout in the top picture is bad- side fan looks to be an intake, pushing air into the back of the power supply. Presumably, the fan's "bottom"- with intake fan- is against the front of the case, otherwise there's a dead spot where the CPU and PSU fans are competing.

Looks like a couple inches shorter in both depth and height.

I think the overlap is minimal - figure the four expansion slots take up 90mm, and there's a gap between the top card and the PSU, so probably another 20-25mm.You're looking at maybe a 5-15mm overlap of the intake fan and PSU exhaust.

Yeah, the PSU intake is facing the front, no doubt about it.

Curious why the PSU isn't exhausting to the other side of the case. Also, where exactly are the drives?

Not thrilled about the look either.

Presumably because it makes cable management cleaner/easier. There's quite a bit of space behind the motherboard, which is also where the 2.5" drives are:



 
Wow, the front is ugly, yet practical? I guess the front is designed well, but I still wouldn't buy it.
 
Just imagine how great this would look with a Lambo red paint job. I think it's brilliant.
 
Damn, I was really excited about this until I read 2.5" drives only. I guess I'll be using my modded SG02 a little while longer.
 
I saw this the other day. A bit too busy for my tastes and I tend to prefer mITX systems (i.e. smaller cases) although I do like the front. From what I understand the top fan filter is removable without opening the case -- how I wish they would have done this for the SG07/08.

Actually, someone else who was there reported it can take two 3.5" drives as well. I imagine that's what that bar behind the motherboard tray is for; the drives mount to it and sit vertically back there.

Yeah the spacing of the screw holes in relation to the length of that vertex 4 looks about right for mounting a 3.5" vertically though it'll be a tight squeeze between the back plate and the side of the case.

Any word on if the PSU comes with it or not?
 
I spent all of last night looking up mATX cases online... Gettin' one of these on release day if I can manage.

So utilitarian/sexy.

Edit://Really curious about the 3.5 drives as well. I've heard that it only supports 2.5" drives, that it supports (2) 3.5" drives and that it *might* be possible with case modding.
2nd Edit:// This post and the people in this thread seem to confirm that the total number is (4) 2.5" and (2) 3.5".

Cannot wait.

I've been thinking about this case and how I really like the shape and size and how much they've managed to stuff in there, but I just can't get past the looks of the thing. It's ugly - no getting around it - and at least 80% of the comments I've seen that mention the looks agree.

Sooo... I've taken the liberty of giving it a quick-and-dirty aesthetic makeover using Sketchup. Being the OP of this thread I'm not gonna feel too bad about crapping it up :p

Let's see what you guys think:

180mm fan intake stays on top.




Side panels are cleaned up as well, removing the side-mounted 120mm and 92/80mm fans.




Internal shot. Obviously I didn't bother trying to model any of the internal parts of the chassis. Most of the components are courtesy of the SCC. Dual 92mm fans at the lower front (yeah yeah, I know. Had to make some sacrifices).




With part of the front panel removed, you can see this this little duct I designed for the PSU exhaust. The idea is to pull cool air in from the right side and exhaust it out the left.




In white with a Coke can for size comparison.


I redesigned the SS logo as well, as you've probably noticed. Frankly, I don't care for the current one and would prefer something simpler and cleaner. I tried a few different shapes derived from their current logo and this one - a sort of simplified isometric cube with integrated chevrons - is the one I liked the most. The SS snowflake is gone, but the basic outline is intact, and I felt the chevrons echoed the "v" in "Silverstone" nicely. Overall, I feel this logo better complements the look of the design.

So is this leagues better, or what?

Anyone have the dimensions on the SG09 yet? specifically the height to know if it can fit my little shelf.

You sir...need to be working for somebody...that is a very clean design and I agree that silverstone's logo needs a rework. Seriously though, that design is "shut up and take my money" worthy.
 
I agree. You should show this to Silversstone. I would buy this in a second.

Oh, nice! I was wondering what those yellow grommets were there for. I'm a little iffy on the aesthetics but I may just get this.
 
Actually, does anyone what the body material is? Silverstone has been favoring steel lately and I'm hoping it's made out of a lighter material (though that doesn't look like aluminum to me).
 
That redesign looks insane. Completely in a class of it's own kind of good. My only question would be airflow... Maybe with a front fan on the bottom under the PSU? OK that's probably horrible but I just feel like you don't have enough airflow going on.
 
sn0man, read the lines between the pics. he clearly stated dual 92mils in the front

i personally would ditch the slot loader in an instant, have an external blu ray burner for those few occasions.
move the psu to the top and have an extended top mesh a la fractal's arc mini.
and hopefully an 120mm with i/o next to it on the side instead of 92x2mm

I think the reasons for putting the ports midway up are twofold: one, so the internal wires don't interfere with longer GPUs; and two, it's a bit more accessible when the case is sitting on the floor.

Yeah, I did have to sacrifice some airflow for aesthetic considerations. A model like this would fit better in Silverstone's "Precision" series, I think. But as mentioned, there are 2x92mm fans in front.

I thought about dropping the optical and rotating the PSU so it exhausts out the top, if that's what you mean. The problem then is the PSU cables are much harder to access and will interfere with longer GPUs, and also the PSU itself couldn't be as long.

A 120mm fan with I/O moved to the side is an option, but it'd change the look considerably. To me, it looks pretty damn good (and it seems most here agree) and personally I'd keep that particular compromise (dual 92mms) to maintain the aesthetics.


It'd be awesome if Silverstone built this thing just like I've modeled it, but sadly that'll never happen (change their logo? Ha!). Even if you and I know it would sell like gangbusters. It's just not how things are done. But it was a fun exercise anyway, and good to get some validation of my skillz :D

I dont think this should stop you from showing this to someone.
 
Wow this is my next case for sure. I was looking at the SG03 but this one gives you room for a full tower cooler for only about 32 cubic inches more of volume, essentially the same volume. Also unlike the cube-type matx cases it might fit into something other than a duffel bag. This should be the record holding smallest case to take matx, full-sized PSU, and tower cooler?
 
They really managed to use every last bit of space.
This case is just 100mm higher than the sg07/08 and can take so much more hardware.
Twice the amount of hdds and ssds, a big tower cooler, a psu that can be deeper, oh yeah and matx.

What do you think are they going to release a sg10 with a new front next year, like they did with the sg08, if this one sells well?

That layout is really nice; the drive mounting is weird, but I like it. Silverstone is always trying wacky stuff and I adore them for it.

That's a great design, Necere! It's like Silverstone's PS07. The one issue is that I don't think the PSU would ventilate very well if you remove the honeycomb panel that it has on the side. I don't think the bank of 120mm fans is necessary, but I think there ought to be somewhere for the PSU to exhaust.

I don't like the grate they've got there on the front. It seems convenient in that it removes to the front (with its filter) as opposed to sliding out to the side, but it would surely look better if it were honeycomb mesh like on the TJ08-E.

PLEASE MAKE THIS! I would buy this case and your front panel in a heart beat man. Its beautiful.
 
It should be interesting to see how the three fans work together to exhaust heat.
