reddit maybe? i dont have an account

You guys are more than welcome to talk to Steve or Kyle about putting it on the front page. I don't feel right asking for that. Seems like shameless self-promotion.

It's not perfect, but it has some great points others have missed/glossed over.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned much, which Dan touched on a bit:

In ME1, to win the game, the player controls Shepard and her/his team to distract Sovereign using RPG+FPS game mechanics.

In ME2, to win the game, the player controls Shepard and her/his team to destroy the human reaper and the collector base, using FPS+RPG game mechanics.

In ME3, to "win" the game, the player talks to the 2nd level deus ex machina star child thing(the first level being the Catalyst itself), and the star child graciously allows Shepard to choose how to f**k up the galaxy.

I'm glad people appreciate it. I just felt that a lot of people were missing a couple key points. Not sure I needed to write that much material about it, but it's kind of what I do. :) I'm long winded when it comes to the typed word. Which is funny because in person I don't say a lot.

well seems they got softball questions at pax lame
ether planted/screened or attendees were told they would be removed from the con for asking any thing "hard"

so yea Bioware can suck a cock never giving them another dime and i will be telling my friends that play ToR to do the same
im sorry but "free" mulitplayer crap isnt going to make me play the game more
and how much do you want to be that mp DLC was going to be 10 bucks but some oh had the sense to make it free lol could you imagine the rage if it was 10 bucks for it?

There's so much wrong with the ending, that stuff like this I've pretty much glossed over, even though it's equally disappointing.

The last "boss" was really our good buddy Marauder Shields? Really? That's the final enemy the game ends on? Wasn't Harbinger continuously foreshadowed as the big boss? I couldn't have been the only one that thought "Aaaaaaww Yeaaaaaah, this is it! Time kick some Harbinger butt" when they tell you he's coming down to protect the beam.

what did you expect them to get lynched or something... it's pax of course these questions are going to be screened, they wouldn't even entertain the possibility of bad press. this isn't someone like blizzard with their own venue and the pride or confidence in their work to do a real q/a, it's just a figurative interaction with the community.

Archengeia thought the same thing as you. (skip to around 30:20 or so to get right to that part)

It's kinda long but its a good listen I think as to what BW should have done.

does this make any one else rage as hard as i do
they only way to read that is they MEANT TO END IT THAT BADLY and that some how the fan base would be ok with this? WTF

"We're very proud of it," they said. "It was important though, for us to listen to the community, and community feedback obviously didn't come until the game came out. We couldn't have included it in the game because we didn't know there was a huge demand for it."

I heard some guys discussing the ending and the "intoxication theory" the other day :D

LMAO

That may very well be it.

That is what I thought. The last boss in 1 was a reaper. The last boss in 2 was a reaper. The last boss in 3 was a re.....wait hologram? Wut?

Running down that path with Harbinger sitting there waiting I just knew this was gonna be epic. After all we got to listen to Harbinger tell us the entire 2nd game how be was the man and going to destroy us and then we get to talk shit to him in The Arrival DLC but you don't get to see anything of him in 3.

Right. It's not over yet.

Everyone knows and knew this game will see x number of DLCs just like ME2 saw. It's the only reason I haven't melted and raged out over this like other people have.

I think ultimately you're right and it has to come down to the Final Showdown with Harbinger one way or the other.

I don't believe that. I think they're full of it. They either were rushed or they have something else up their sleeves.

This could be interesting. I dont understand why they keep lying and saying that the ending we got is the actual ending they intended. That's BS, yet it's at least been consistent BS.

Yep that's exactly what I expected, and I bet their last real storyboard called for exactly that, before they threw it out the window to meet the ship date.

Nonsense, they threw that ending out the window because they had a blast of "artistic vision"!! :p

interesting... I would see this as fuel for the rage, knowing that they could get away with halfassing it just to milk the dlc.

Indeed, my general policy for dealing with games that have significant DLC, is to wait until the final version with all DLC included, is released at a bargain bin price. Mass Effect and BioWare games in general, used to be an exception to this policy. But, not anymore.

If the new ending does bring you up against Harbinger and if you kill him and outright kill the Reapers, that would be amazing.

They said it's only cinematics, no gameplay, so all we're getting is an explanation of the abortion they already gave us it would seem.

I bet they steal the IT stuff, use it, and claim it was their idea all along.

I wouldn't put it past EA one bit to do that.

Curious, would it be a worse ending if they decided on doing the way of where it would all be a dream?

Depends on what they add for the actual real resolution I would suppose.

They've painted themselves into a corner pretty bad, doing a "Dallas" episode where it was all a dream is the easy way out, but to pull that stunt won't make them look very smart as script writers.

It still amazes me they managed to screw the ending up so badly. It wouldn't have even been hard to make the ending decent. They didn't need to try and force feed us some "revelation" at the end of the game. I'm not sure why they felt it necessary. The recipe was simple...reapers are bad, blow up reapers, the end. How they managed to decide it needed to be more complicated than that is beyond me.

They've said a lot of things broski.

They didn't have time to do it right, so they tried to do it profoundly/artsy.

While I agree they were rushed, I think a straight forward ending would have taken less time than the stupid godchild crap they created. And then this "extended cut" would probably actually be pretty well received. As it stands, they now have to extend on outrageously inane endings. I really don't think they can salvage these endings with "clarification."

From what I've heard and tweets I've read I'm pretty sure Bioware wanted their game to be viewed like someone views art. Which is why we keep hearing them say "artistic vision." Not everyone views a piece of art the same way and without knowing the true artists vision you're left with speculation, which we know they wanted.

If someone views the ending as the Indoctrination Theory then they are right, if someone views it at face value then they are also right. However you view the ending is your ending to your Mass Effect. Examples...

Toby Grizwald ‏

@JessicaMerizan But was indoctrination theory intended? Most fans want the truth and not have to head canon their own endings.

Jessica Merizan

@DrTobyGrizwald sigh... it's not head canon. I'm not going to tell you how to interpret something that has multiple meanings.

Peter DeLury

@JessicaMerizan In one of your other tweets you mentioned different levels of interpretation. Im curious what you mean by that statement

Jessica Merizan ‏

@PeterDeLury it means I will never confirm or deny indoctrination b/c we don't want to tell you how to interpret the end.

David Kamada ‏

@JessicaMerizan I have a question. The press release about the Extended Cut disproves the Indoctrination Theory; is that correct? Thanks.

Jessica Merizan

@dkenobi no it doesn't. We don't want to be prescriptive about the ending b/c we think that there are different levels of interpretation.

Now the Extended Cut might change this but until then this is what they want. Not saying I like this idea or I'm happy with it, but it's just what I think Bioware was trying to achieve.

No that's not right, Mass Effect is, until the last 5 minutes is a straight up sci-fi RPG Epic story. The ending is hugely different than all 100+ hours that preceded it in almost every way that matters. If they really wanted to do a star child A, B, C ending from day one, then they needed to start telegraphing it sometime in ME1 or 2.

They know they screwed up and they brought in the PR people and they're using standard spin tactics to try to find some way to not have to spend much money to keep their rep intact. The whole "Artistic Vision" line is just to muddy the waters and give a subset of their detractors something else to fixate on. And some people eat it up because they want to believe that they weren't duped.

The game was going to be late, they tried a last ditch attempt to get some sort of acceptable ending onto it before release, they failed. That is all this is.

It would have been easy to have a reasonably sensible ending with just control and destroy options, forget the green synthesis beam and starkid. Leave out non-sensical Normandy sequence (saves money too). Make it clear that Relays did not produce super-novas. Show Shepard clearly alive or dead. There was no need to explain Reapers now if you could not come up with a good one... Hell, you could just have left it for next game when people go out to rediscover the galaxy after this horrible calamity.

With low budget you could also just produce text (shocking, I know) to explain some of the events.

there are many people satisfied by the current ending and looking forward to having certain suspicions confirmed or denied by the upcoming DLC. I'm one of them.

So my opinion on what Bioware wanted is wrong? Ok.

That's you're opinion on the ending and that's fine with me, but you can't go around saying it's fact when we've heard nothing from Bioware themselves on why they chose that ending.

And there is evidence in ME1 of a volus experience something similar to Shepard at the end of the game...http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Klencory

I keep seeing posts like these every so often and I never see these opinions expanded upon. Ever. Personally because I don't think they can be but maybe I'm wrong.

How and why did you like that ending in its present form?

I'm honestly mystified how anyone let alone could draw any satisfaction from that mess. Believe me: I tried.

I'm not trying to single you out or anything. I'm honestly understand what folks like you saw that I didn't.
