Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

So I paid amazon for release day delivery and it says my copy is shipping the day AFTER release

Hopefully the website is wrong and it is on it's way already :/

Amazon's pre-order shipping dates are usually wrong and are just approximate...wait until later today and your order will probably say 'Shipped'...I've never had an issue with Amazon...Release Day delivery means the day of release so you'll get the game tomorrow

That's the way it's always worked for me in the past.

It is technically impossible to get 0 renegade points or alternatively 0 paragon points in the game. Some missions, and main ones at that actually grant both renegade and paragon points upon completion despite not choosing any obvious renegade or explicit paragon options. As for the rest, I've actually done a renegade and paragon playthrough of the game. I found the paragon route more enjoyable. That being said, I did take a few renegade actions here and there. I actually found a few of the renegade choices distasteful, but some are just too good NOT to pick. Some renegade choices benifit you greatly. Taking out the guy repairing the gunship on Archangel's recruitment mission is one such action. If you don't take him out the gunship gets fully repaired and has 100% armor and shields. If you do kill the guy then it's only got 50% armor/shields. On the harder difficulty settings this makes the encounter much easier

some of the Paragon/Renegade outcomes were strange in Mass Effect 2...I was playing as Paragon but didn't think that knocking that guy out during the Archangel mission should be considered a Renegade move...same with when I was helping Liara hack those terminals in Illium...after the mission ended I was surprised to get a bunch of Renegade points for helping her out...Legion's loyalty mission is another example where reprogramming the geth is considered Paragon when it seems more like a Renegade choice (both Legion mission options should have been Renegade)

and then in the Arrival DLC you are given a Renegade interrupt where you can shoot Dr. Kenson...if you don't choose it she still blows herself up...hopefully the Paragon/Renegade options are tweaked in ME3

Well you were helping out a friend with regard to Liara's terminal hacking request. However what she wanted was actually illegal, even on Ilium. I agree with you concerning Legion's loyalty mission to some extent. I might have actually considered their destruction more of a Paragon choice than essentially brainwashing them. At least the Heretic Geth were enemies who were more or less at war with organics. So at least killing them was an act of self-defense and at no point would that have deprived them of their right to choose or altered their individuality / collective conciousness.

As for Dr. Kenson's suicide, it's not really clear cut either. Now if it had given you an option to wound her and capture her, I'd have considered that a Paragon act. If you shot her, it's really kind of self-defense given that she's got a bomb. If you don't shoot her, you are still giving her a chance not to kill herself, which seems like a Paragon act I guess. If you shoot her the bomb goes off, if you don't, it goes off anyway. So the result is the same no matter what you choose. But the first time you play it, you don't really know.

Darn, my 2 CEs are already shipped but now I'm tempted to order a digital version so I can play tonight! Guess I'll just have to wait though.

I hope everyone is considerate with spoilers and tags them.

Link to save game reader?

I did find the user project here http://social.bioware.com/project/8005/. Is that the same?

I'd wager that Mass Effect 3 will be somewhat similar in that the decisions from the first two games will often appear as subtle changes. Like ME2, you may not necessarily notice them unless you play the game without importing anything or unless you recognize characters and talk about events from earlier installments. There are of course the big choices, and we now know what they are based on data pulled from BioWare's ME2 save game reader. Those decisions should impact the game considerably as most did in ME1 > ME2. Some of the larger decisions like saving the Rachni queen weren't really a big deal in ME2. Though you heard news casts about Rachni ships being spotted as well as having the encounter with the queen's messenger. And while that seemingly major decision didnt' really change anything in ME2, I have a feeling that choice will be huge in ME3.

As much as I hate to do it, I'm not going to partake in any of the Mass Effect 3 threads for awhile. Partly because people are sometimes bad with spoilers, and I don't want to know anything until I have played it for myself, I will pretty much avoid all Mass Effect 3 threads from midnight tonight onward until I've made significant progress in the game myself, or even until I've completed at least one full playthrough.

Also, I received tracking information. My ME3CE should arrive tomorrow. :)

I have been on a huge ME1/ME2 binge the last few days. Finished ME1 with most of the minor quests with an Engineer, completely indifferent to paragon/renegade status, just acting as I would. Ended up about half and half, saved the council and the rachni, no romances, dead ashley. It imported a bonus to both paragon and renegade in ME2.

Now almost done with ME2. Still split about evenly with paragon/renegade, able to get story options for both, facial scars still visible but not full robo-face. Going to finish the main story and Shadowbroker tonight, then on to ME3. Such a good series.

Still no professional reviews out yet? I wonder if that means 1) they're not supposed to release them early, 2) the game is bad, 3) they just got their copies and haven't had the time to write them yet?

Given that Mass Effect games take around 40-50 hours to complete all the way, they may not have had time to get all that far into them depending on how early BioWare/EA allowed reviewers to have it. They may also be on a strict NDA concerning this one. I wouldn't consider this a sign that the game is bad. This isn't like the typical COD type article in which you can knock out in a single day.

Clearly then we've been too lenient with these blasphemers. We need a crusade to purify the ranks of PC Gamers of these perverted controller users.

I use a controller to play PC games in the living room... this game would be perfect for that scenario. I really do wish they patch controller support in.

My main rig is now in living room as well, even though I prefer playing most games with KB/M the 360 gamepad has grown on me considerably and I would love to be able to play ME3 with it. If history tells me anything it's that the PC will not see gamepad support from Bioware :(

My CE from Amazon still has not shipped. It has me somewhat worried as the estimated delivery date is March 12th - 14th.

Lair of the Shadow Broker is excellent in every way...it should have been part of the main story and not a paid DLC...they give you answers to major dangling plot points that will have huge repercussions if you import your character in ME3...the Arrival is also an important DLC to play before ME3 (not as important as LOTSB)...it's pretty much a direct setup to ME3

the Kasumi and Zaeed DLC from ME2 just added new squadmates and loyalty missions which enhance the experience so they are just 'bonus' content and not required...don't really like the fact that BioWare made people pay extra for canon story and hope they don't do the same for ME3 but it looks like they are already on that road with the 'From Ashes' Day 1 DLC

Any one else not able to preload the game on origin? Edit: Nm origin must be getting bombed or something took 20 minutes for the preload option to come up

Fudge...that's not good. EA servers and their AAA gameday launches have a pretty poor track record. Let's hope the can accommodate the traffic.

Just got word that my retail CE from Gamestop shipped. I'm seriously thinking about calling out of work tomorrow

Any word if there is a FOV slider or edit to get a wider FOV from the game? Or if that widescrean tweaker works on the game? Me actually ponying up $60 for it depends on the answer.

What engine is used for ME3?

Do you think the GTX 560M is enough to run it at maximum graphics settings?

Any word on FXAA support?

Well the demo ran super fine on my ATI 5850, and I think they are still using the same Unreal engine as before.

The laptop in your sig should play ME3 very very smoothly :) The ME series so far has been nicely optimized and isn't very demanding. Also, ME3 finally has built in AA options but I'm not sure if it's FXAA. It looks quite good though.

doubtful. let's hope that Bioware listens to the community and implements a slider at some point....

So, has anyone else unlocked the game yet? No one has said so... must be too busy playing :D

I got about three hours in today, about all I could make time for. It's off to a good start, though. I'm really enjoying it. I'm not going to comment on the story at all, don't want to ruin anything.

One thing though, that I hated in ME2, and hate even more now... these may be the worst controls I've ever seen on a AAA PC release. I seriously hate having one button to sprint/cover/use. Why the fuck won't they just let me bind these to three separate keys? Also, I'm glad grenades are back, but using a number key to toss them: stupid. Why can't I bind an easier to reach key to this? These cannot be complicated things for the devs to implement... do they really think the way things are set up is better?

Oh, also, the textures look like shit. I'm not surprised, but it still sucks. Lots of very obvious consolization, just like ME2. At least the game play and story are making up for it.

I chose release date delivery and for some reason it got reset to standard delivery. I sent an email in and they corrected it and it was marked as shipped a few hours ago. Send them an email pronto!

I got used to it after a few hours...how would having 3 separate keys make any difference, it's not like you're ever going to do all 3 at the same time...it's not that big of a deal in this series and it actually makes it more convenient having all 3 bound to 1 key

I can't wait anymore...I need my ME fix, so I decided to get the Arrival DLC for ME2 to tie me over until tomorrow. How long will it take me to get through it?

Mine just barely updated and is being displayed as shipped, though it says the estimated arrival is Wednesday instead of tomorrow. Oh well, good thing I work a short shift Wednesday and have Thursday off, now I won't have to call in. :p

I didn't care for the new movement options at first, but once I got used to them in multiplayer, I find that they are very useful and enjoyable once you practice with it a bit. In fact, I went back to ME2 earlier today and missed all the rolling and dodging.

As for grenade tossing, I map my favorite skills to the mouse buttons and the Q and E keys. That's 4 easy to reach skills there.

I'm guessing Shepard doesn't have the badass asari movement where she flashes from one spot to another? That move is damn nice for when you get cornered by a baddy.

I inadvertently took cover when I wanted to sprint in the MP demo fairly regularly. It was annoying as hell at first, and though I did it till the end, it wasn't something that was a game breaker, IMO.

Man... this game is so good but you get bombarded with possibilities. I'm loving it though.
