Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Change the characteristics to be more similar to thermal optics on vehicles.

Thermal optics on vehicles are more sensitive to light sources than regular vision (even muzzle flash will obscure the screen), as opposed to less. This actually can be also done in conjunction with tweaking the characteristics of flashlights, have them more blinding than current against IRNV, the same vs. high magnification scopes, and less vs. other 1x or less scopes.

Thermal Optics also have much more limited range in terms of highlighting enemies.

To understand the balance issue of IRNV, ask yourself what are the disadvantages? Also compare it other 1x zoom type scopes, Holo or RDS, what are the disadvantages vs. advantages?

While I agree the IRNV makes spotting enemies way too easy, you also loose alot of the view.

Only like 1/3 of the pixels on my LCD are used when i'm looking though it. It's also kinda useless in CQC. Takes alot of time to aim down it.

I guess they could slow it down even more.

So I've officially turned the 24/7 kharg island into a 24/7 base rape fest.

they could reduce it's range and tone down the outdoor effectiveness? have you used the damn thing? it's H4X!

Good point on the outdoor effectiveness, it basically turns any scorching daylight map into an almost uniform environment. Then again the range IRNV actually highlights enemies is slightly limited, but not limiting enough to hinder your shooting abilities. I also use it every gun I can equip it on. :p

Also, quick question for you chopper buffs. When is the best time to launch your flares? Right as they launch the missile or right as they lock on? I swear there are times when I deploy my flares right after they launch the missile, it still hits me which I find odd. A bit of advice would be great.

My single 6970 wasn't cutting it at 2560x1600 so I just ordered a second. Lets hope that help's ;)

hello,
i have been out of pc gaming since pre core i CPUs, and am wondering how good will BF3 run on amd phenom 2 x4 830 and gtx 260?

Depending on Resolution. My buddy is running almost same setup cept with a 5770, and getting about 60fps @1600x800 with medium high settings

(1) There are certainly hackers.... without a doubt is this guy (look at his kills --11,000.... and :

I think I found what he did tonight; I was on a Metro Meet Grinder server and a colonel 4 stars was laying on the ground down the stair with the same m249 shooting at a wall separating the stair and the corridor with lockers in the ticket hall, he was shooting without interruption. At the back of this wall were a lot of enemies, so his bullets cross the wall. It will make sense since all those hackers are support with a m249

Meh, just found a bug in the Fire in the Sky co-op mission.

When trying to get the teams over to the house to infiltrate, some of the members were far away wandering around, and sometimes they'd just bounce up to the top of the mountain or something and then back. The rest of the team was stacked up ready to go and the other guys were holding it up. Waited for like 5 minutes and the mission never proceeded, just left us flying around with nothing to do.

Oh, another super-awesome thing about this mission is that I've hit several times where if the public matchmaking does not make the player I get stuck with the gunner, they will just quit out at the very start. Awesome.

Set your throttle to halfway, I have an OLD Sidewinder Precision Pro and if I leave my throttle at full then I fire constantly as well and if I leave it all the way down my guy walks backwards...the halfway position (neutral) sends no commands to computer.

Cool I will give that a try.

Cool I will give that a try.

You're better off deleting the joystick commands from the other key bindings - otherwise bumping the joystick can cause weird behavior (on mine, pulling back would cause a reload).

After spending some good time with the game, here's my list of things to correct:

1. Fix BF3.exe has stopped responding (huge issue)
2. Fix Eyefinity and Surround not implemented/working properly (large issue)
3. Enable enemy footstep sounds (never heard super-silent enemies in an FPS before)
4. Get rid of the "frozen in place" pause after standing up after revive
5. Enable "auto-walkover" of small ground items so that you don't have to press jump over that four inch high peice of concrete etc
6. Reduce the sun-glare akin to a nuclear bomb going off 100 feet in front of your face to something more realistic
7. Fix the 45 megawatt flashlights; I don't even have to elaborate on this one
8. Enable a realistic height for suicide; jumping off that five foot boulder shouldn't kill me
9. Don't "attach" me to a ladder when I am running past it five feet away (worst and slowest ladder mechanics I've ever seen an a FPS)
10. Enable "clickable" map on deploy screen
11. Rework deploy screen squad managment for same functionaltiy as BC2
12. Fix flashing/flicker and green textures
13. Limit the amount of simultaneous morters per team to two. Game is way too exploitable with a large number of mortarers. Most of the time enemy mortars are in a location which you cant get to for being "out of bounds".
14. Enable ping on scoreboard.
15. Severely reduce the "effectiveness" of the IRNV scope.
Bonus: Remember previous MAP settings so I don't have to cycle through them every single time I spawn and or enter/leave a vehicle. Also remember camo selection.

DICE, fix the things above and you will have one hell of a game on your hands. Anyone agree/disagree?

I extremely hate that! I rarely accept revives just cause of that..
You can stand up from prone, but yet cant move?! Wtf kinda crap is that

@Vega
1) That will probably take the longest to fix as the reasons for it could/would vary wildly. But agree.
2) Not a concern for me
3) Ambivalent on this one. I barely get knife kills as it is.
4) Agree
5) Agree
6) Ambivalent on this one. Doesn't bother me that much and sometimes works to my advantage.
7) Fuckin' Agree
8) Not a concern for me
9) Haven't actually ran into this issue
10) Not a concern for me
11) This can be done whenever DICE feels like it. The current system seems fine to me
12) Read my answer to #1
13) Ambivalent on this one as well: I have and use the mortar quite often. But usually to take out the enemies' mortars. So even when they're out of bounds, I can still get them if I'm close enough to use the mortar. Not to mention that I've been in quite a few conquest games where multiple mortars were the main way for the my crappy team to actually hold the points.
14) Agree
15) Agree in the sense that its efectiveness in daytime should be reduced. Its current dark conditions performance is just fine.
Bonus: I'm not sure what you mean here. Could you please elaborate more?

Regarding the IRNV scope, I think they could do something like in Fire in the Sky as the gunner when you zoom in and use the IR vision...when you zoom back out to "normal" vision, you get this blinding brightness as your eyes adjust. In ArmA2 ACE mod, there is a similar feature where when you go from NV to nothing in the dark your eyes have to adjust to the low light on their own after having seen it brighter. Maybe something like these conditions could be added to the IRNV scope? After all, that would seem more realistic anyway.

Add one more: When the spawn point I selected disappears just before I spawn (either got killed of taken over) DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY SPAWN ME AT THE MAIN BASE. Bring up the spawn menu again so I can select another spawn point. (Just like previous games)

I have noticed that just about all the people who I think "there is no way they are that good" are using the M249.

Edit: Dice better ban everyone of those cheaters, to be honest, anyone over level 30-35 is probably not legit, anyone wither a better then 7-10/1 K/D is probably not legit and both groups should be banned.

The squad system needs to be fixed big time. I know it was a last-minute thing, but there are some major issues with it. The other night when I was playing there were 4 of us on the team, and two were in a squad. I wanted to join their squad, but the only thing it would fucking let me do is be in a 2-person squad with the other non-squad guy. I could not forcibly join the other squad. Eventually, the one guy left, and every time I hit "Find Squad" (because, again, it didn't give me the option to just join their squad outright) it said "Squads all full, waiting to find one to join"...Are you fucking kidding me? A 2 out of 4 squad is "full"? I couldn't even be in a squad by myself, let alone join the only fucking squad on my team. So basically the game forced me to run around on my own the entire match. Next match wasn't any better, same issue.

Another unrelated issue I have noticed is that between matches/sessions it seems like it will not remember my previous loadout. I want to use the M9 Tactical and most of the time it will automatically switch it back to the M1911 or something when I go back in the game. What is up with that? How hard is it for the game to remember my fucking preferences?

Level 30-35 at this point is hardly anything special nor does it even require much skill. Even with <250 SPM you can be that level or higher just through sheer playing time.

Also KDR is subject to play style and mode as well. It isn't hard to have a legit 10+ KDR ratio if you solely use vehicles and play cautiously. I know in BF2 for instance people with extremely high KDR weren't necessarily hackers, but you check their play time stats and they were almost always in jets, helis or tanks.

Also in regards to hacking in general, the truth is for every one person you suspect of hacking many more are doing it subtly in a way as to blur the line between real and fake. People don't hack just to have unrealistic stats but also want people to think they are better than they are, more do the latter. This doesn't mean inflating your KDR in a unrealistic manner to 10+ but maybe do enough to bring it from natural 2 to 4 with cheats. For instance when people used wall hacks back in CS, most were not blantantly shooting at everyone through walls with the AWP, but using it just to get that extra reaction time around corners.

Oh ya, that is a good one. I love clicking on a base and the instant I click deploy its gone and it sends me five miles back.

As far as the map is concerned. There are three levels of the map scale. Every single time you spawn or get inside/leave a vehicle, it resets its scale. Once I set the map scale I want it to permanently stay at that scale. Same things goes for weapons, I shouldn't have to select my fire mode every single time.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

I have 4 buddies in my clan that are all over 35 and dont hack.

You just gotta suck less bro..

It's really not hard to level up.

also what IS hacks is if you play coop before even getting into MP, you will have OP starting out weapons for each class.

Yeah I'm gonna have to disagree with you there: I'm level 30 and my brother is level 38. Fairly sure we're legit. As limitedaccess pointed out, level 30 to 35 isn't that special and a low SPM like mine can easily reach it.

Though I will admit that I do use the M249 and M240 fairly often.

Ditto. I'm currently going through all my weapons so I can get as many on the h4x as I can. :D Of course, it goes both ways - the baddies use it against you as well.

ROFL! I'm doing all the support guns first since those will be the hardest to finish off once they nerf the h4x. After seeing that picture, even though i disagreed initially, the IRNV definitely gives a huge advantage.

im not sure how someones rank could be classified as them not being legit unless they were rank 120 or something..

im rank 39 and i dont ever use the infra red sight i use strictly iron site or red dot and my kdr seems fine to me its sitting around 2.1 and i kill my self alot messing around.. ive used the LMG's alot but thats because im going up each class and getting all the weapon unlocks and atm its enginer time. first time using the g36c below i got 5 unlocks for it in 1 round :)

What in the hell is taking them so long to roll out a patch? They have been patching battlelog like crazy, but there are still tons of bugs in this game.

I think you just answered your own question. They've also been patching the servers a lot.

IIRC I was one of those kills for you. :) U shot me, bro! U shot me!

lol didnt know you were in there i rarely check who i kill or is on the other team unless they are in vent or mumble with me, greenfish was in mumble with me so we could coordinate pretty well.

Just an FYI guys. There are servers out there exploiting a certain setting in the current server build.

Basically, everything is unlocked. M60E4, IRNV, foregrip, extended mag, laser sight, squad suppression = rape fest.

Here is one of them... I'm not sure how legit it is, but ATF is a very well known clan, I don't think they would risk it otherwise.

Wasn't there something in the latest sever patch notes about disabling that setting? Though tI saw it in this thread somewhere.

I would rather them work on the client seeing as how battlelog is not displaying pings.....again.

I pretty much agree with all the points above, they also need to add a ticket counter so we know approximately how much time is left in a match. I JUST LOVE waiting for a map to load only to have the match finish just as I enter (This annoys me to no end despite the fact that I'm running on a fast SSD and it happens to me all the time, I cant even imagine how much more annoying it must be with a slower HD). Also, I can't decide if the non saving of our settings be it video settings and or soldier load out settings is more annoying then the blinding sun/flashlights...both suck ass equally I think!
