Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

lol, "Stop using facts in your arguements!"

On topic : I wish wish they had enabled anti-cheat for the Beat, keep seeing some very abnormal scores every once in a while.

Off topic: There is a reason that you can not use wikipedia as a source for college papers, go ahead, see what happens if you write a paper and cite wikipedia.

So their PR machine says. AFTER all the complaining during the open-beta.

They said it before it even opened to the early access users.

Thats what you don't get. That's why it isn't for marketing. Everything they have done and said clearly shows it is not for marketing at all.

Yeh, Inate8 you are completely wrong. They said long before the beta was out that it was based on old code. They said previous to the beta being released (even to the pre order people) that there was (is) bugs in it that have already been fixed. Not to mention, but lots of the issues that ran rampant in the beginning of the beta have been solved. Anyone who took the 13 seconds to change windows firewall rules no longer gets the disconnected from server problems. No one gets eaten by the ground any longer (And that was a bug which Dice said they already fixed, but the fix didnt make it into the beta code in time.)

And as for the game being printed and packed and such. It really doesnt matter, at all. Sure physical copies may be at the printing press now (Although I doubt it, they have not made a gold announcment, go ahead and wiki that) Patches will be available the day it is properly released. That happens with most games. Lots of people wont even be getting physical copies with digital versions being so popular now. The code could be as recent as from the day previous to the release.

And before you claim again that it was dices PR machine telling everyone that the beta is old code. Well, it simply has to be doesnt it. In order for the beta to be released on the 360 and PS3 is had to be certified by Sony and MS. A process which we know takes a couple or more weeks.

And regardless of what the description on wikipedia says, does every game developer have to follow Wikipedias rules to a T. They must follow it, or else they what, get the wrath of wikipedia.

If you were to look back at the original thread theres a few pages of people bitching about this very fact when DICE came out and said they were waiting on Sony and MS so they could release the beta on all platforms.

ug, this game is really fun but it's still so broken.

DICE hasn't written good net code since their inception and quite frankly, this isn't going to be any different.

I have no problem killing people per say, but it's pretty obviously the hit reg is off yet again.

So I see we'll have the age old classic DICE game: incredibly fun for pubbing, unfit for competition. That's OK I guess, maybe in 2023 they'll get it right.

Are they seriously going to take the servers offline every night at 0700 Zulu? Which is 9pm for me - so right in the middle of my gaming time? If so, I think I'm going to have to cancel my pre-order. I thought I could already be in a game and be fine, but doesn't seem like it, since I got booted tonight.

Battlelog won't load, is the servers really offline?

I really hope this does not happen in the final retail version of the game especially if you want to play a single player campaign, I thought using an internet broswer to launch the game was stupid enough already.

They're doing a fantastic job with this realistic grass patches just growing in pure cement :D

LOVE IT!

lol

All of these threats to cancel. Just do it.

Done. Do they really think that no one in the Pacific time zone plays games after midnight? They do realize that like a third of the US population lives there, right? I don't know if this is just a beta thing or what, but I find it hard to believe they have to take down their entire server browser/matchmaking service every single night for an hour. Or for that matter, any night for an hour.

It's almost like they are doing some kind of testing on the servers and updating them...

And they are not based in the US. They are based over seas in Europe. So during a BETA TEST it could impact your precious gaming time if they need to apply an update.

Good job on canceling your preorder over that. Super mature.

They said it before it even opened to the early access users

Link? Because Matros said the exact opposite during the open beta. And if it had always been planned I doubt they would now be making public statements such as this:

Since the Open BETA we’ve added more advanced functionality to manage your squad. You will be able to browse and join specific squads through the squad screen. You can see all players that are in a specific squad as well as who’s playing as lone wolf. As a squad leader you can set your squad to private as well as kick players from the squad.

On console you will also be able to choose if you want the active VoIP channel to be team or squad and invite friends to your squad. You will also be able to mute any player on your team through the scoreboard.

I don't think there would have been a proper squad management system but for the shit storm of nerd rage that erupted on the beta forums.

Goes to show that whining on an epic scale does achieve results.
And the people who complain about customers demanding more for their money will go "See? You guys were worried over nothing. They gave us squad management anyway". They'll completely miss and/or forget the reason it happened.

I think this is more to the response from cancelled pre orders. They have had a large number of people cancel.

Good job standing up for what you believe in, it's not easy when the bandwagon is so mainstream.

It's pretty bad to have no more than 24 hours uptime on a hosted service like this, whatever system needs 1 hour downtime in every 24 hours of operation is basically completely broken.

Most of the servers I manage have uptimes above 6 months, some are over a year now, it's extremely unprofessional to expose such unreliable services to mass use

I look at it this way. better to have screw ups with the servers now than after the game launches.

I am going to cut DICE and EA some slack until the game launches. Then and only then will I complain if it is broken.

Actually thats one of the major reason that I dislike Battlelog. We're depending on EA's back-end system to be up and running for us to even see the server browser through our web browser. If its down, then you're screwed.

A traditional in-game browser would meant that the browser is always there in your game, as long as you can launch the game, you can see and use it to search for game servers.

It's a good point for sure, at least with client side service like an in game browser you can basically still join via a locally stored favourite or history list, or manually by IP address.

Same also goes for the settings, both the alpha and the beta crashed for me after changing video settings, of course you can't get to the video settings in game unless you launch an actual match, which then crashes making the in game settings impossible to reach, it's the most retarded system I think I've ever seen, its one of those design philosophies which basically make the assumption that everything is going to work perfectly all the time, then when it screws up there's no easy way to handle the errors and mess you're left with, very stupid.

The EA master servers have to be up to deliver the server list, whether it is delivered to you via a web browser, or an internal game browser. There is no difference in this respect.

You really cant be serious. Where do they say that once the game is released the servers will go down for an hour every night. I must have missed that. Its an open beta, testing brand new net code. Servers will be going down during an open beta testing new net code. It really isnt rocket science.

Unless of course theyve said that once the game goes live, they will be bringing down the servers every night for an hour.

Ill add you grunt, same with any of you guys, wanna add me to origin: cuttysark69

jesus where has the logical reasoning gone? DICE said the purpose of this beta is to stress test the back end....and you expect them not to shut down and tweak?

It's almost like they are doing some kind of testing on the servers and updating them...

now that's funny.

yeah IDK what those guys are smoking, they said even in the blog post that this was for the beta so they can push server updates

I don't think I have the temperment to be a dev. I would see all the retarded postings of, "Fix the server crashes NAO OMG!" followed by, "WTF YOU'RE TAKING SERVERS DOWN IN A BETA WTF CANCLE PREORDER!(@!"

I would say you know what? Fuck you all. We're not releasing the game, all we'll release is screenshots and youtube videos of us playing it with friends. Which again, is why I'm not a dev or have anything to do with the public, except shutting them down when they mess with my company. :D

I used to work for a giant Honda parts store and managed their eBay and website sales. People on the internet act like idiots in almost all sectors. There is no escaping it.

I'm enjoying the Beta quite a bit despite the issues.

I don't mind Origin either.

and I'm growing to like Battlelog...

I must be one of the few judging by this thread!

exactly.

people posting and whining about servers going down during a BETA is ridiculous, i could understand if it's after retail launch, but man this is just ridiculous, just about every post here is "wahhhhh they took the servers offline during a BETA"

complain after the game has released....

glad you're starting to enjoy it spicey. i'm with you on Battlelog, i don't mind it at all and see a lot of potential in it. oh and if you play the support class give the M249 + suppressor a whirl (if you haven't already). it's so lethal it feels downright dirty :D
