Battlefield 3 - Official Thread

I dont have to worry about that, i bought MOH so i will be in the Beta. Another thing i forgot that NEEDS to be changed is they still have the white streaking smoke from snipers and that is just WRONG. The flicker (which i like) is more than enough of a position hint.

Yeah true it does get disabled (vehicles) after 2-3 but still, i fire 3 and then i need another 2 to destroy it? 5 in total? Idk seems wrong.
I LOVEEEEEE the suppression affect, both when shot at and making others experience it.

its called MP and teamwork normaly, its not a singleplayer game.
5shots seems pretty fine with me.

The way Origin is integrated into the alpha I am pretty sure that EA never had any intention of making BF3 available on steam. That does not faze me as I buy most games on physical medium, but what really pisses me off is not being able to use the steam overlay.

they could just as easily have it launch the game through steam as they can through origin.

not that it bothers me i bought the game on origin so meh. but if EA and valve work out thier issues it wont be much trouble for it to work by launching steam when you want to play log in and then start the game.

The effects are spot on in my opinion. It really makes it hard to return fire. The sound in the game is what has me extremely impressed. It's a very intense experience when you're running across the park and you see bullets spraying around you and your vision is getting slightly blurred. It makes you react with trying to save yourself, rather than turn on the spot and return fire. I always head for cover then peak out now, whereas in bc2 I would be able to turn on the spot and kill a guy 3/4 of the time. Not in this game lol.

EDIT: for clarification, when I say "see bullets spraying around you" I mean the occasional bullet flying by and the others hitting the ground around you.

Man, that's exactly what I was hoping here and it definitely got me further psyched for BF3!

Glad to hear direct input about this, and that it actually has validity in the game, as opposed to just being a gimmick mechanic. Definite cant wait to experience it myself!

I personally don't mind the battlelog setup, and find it vastly superior to the server browser in BC2. Far more responsive, for one. Doesn't take forever to find servers, etc.

However, I experience driver failures whenever I spawn in an area that isn't inside the subway, which is really pissing me off. Updating drivers to 11.7, hopefully it fixes it.

But, I have immensely enjoyed what I have been able to play.

I would be extremely surprised if they were monitoring these forums. I think they're more worried about videos on youtube and posts on major gaming sites/blogs.

Doesn't take forever for me, and not to mention that battlelog is missing basic functionality present in BC2 (in particular auto-queuing). There are numerous other issues with using it as the sole portal to MP which I won't elucidate upon here.

However, I actually think its another way for EA/DICE to exert control over how and when users can play their games. Apart from obvious issues such as when web sites are ddos'd or simply break, what would be the easiest way for EA/DICE to encourage people to move on to the next iteration or sequel? Perhaps simply turn off the battlelog server browser for BF3?

This is gonna be one of those games that really benefit from a high-speed multicore (4+) CPU.

My X3 @ 3.4Ghz had 100% utilization on all 3 cores. Good thing I was planning an upgrade in september (oh god I hope bulldozer doesn't suck).

Eh, I personally only see ~30% CPU utilization @stock speeds (2.66Ghz) on my i7 920(D0) during normal gameplay, and I've never seen it peak above 50%.

But the game runs great on high @1920x1080 with my HD6950 2GB. Unfortunately, I don't have any solid numbers, but by the look and feel of it, I'd say around 55-60+ fps on average.

I have an i7920 stock. I never go above 50%. If I do decide to snag this, I honestly may not upgrade my machine at all. It does run BUTTA smooth for me.

You can use the overlay in non steam games

They just posted a warning on the main battlelog page about breaking the NDA.

No they didn't

It's not feature complete yet

And how is that any different than any of the shit you mentioned happening to the login server of a previous game? Bf2 had login server crashes and even the stats servers went down before. You act like they've never had backed problems before and that they arr somehow only now susceptible

I am well aware of that, now show me how to use it with BF3.

No they didn't

Yeah....they did.

Notice Remember, all players in the Alpha Trial are under NDA. Posting screenshots and sharing information outside of this site is a violation of the agreement.

BF2 was a shittily designed in-game system which is 7 years old, I don't see how that somehow negates all the subsequent improvements made over the years in BF games, and currently I experience none of those issues in BC2. As for susceptibility, how often are web sites attacked/infiltrated compared to paging servers?

At least if stat servers get taken down it doesn't stop you from otherwise being able to access all the other features/info contained in an in-game UI. If battlelog gets taken down you are pretty much stuffed.

In terms of whether its feature complete, do you honestly think that features are still able to be implemented given the release window in 8 weeks? These days alphas are more like betas, and betas are demos used to entice the pre-order crowds.

That is because we have 8 threads, so kinda like a virtual octo core. If you turn off HT I think you may see higher usage as well.

I have a I7 920 .It was choppy for me, I couldnt even log in through that stupid browser, it would just freeze. I gave up in 2 days and uninstalled that POS .In a way this is good I have no interest for the beta now. For me it just felt like BC2 with prone.

Having an i7 doesn't mean your gonna get great fps, it just helps. If you have an hd 5450(just an example) its not gonna run. And how is it hard to log into the battlelog? Use your EA account, its the same. What browser were you using?

Runs great on the rig in my sig. I set it to the highest setting, not auto. Of course it's not in DX11 cause of my older cards but this games runs butter smooth for me.
I just wish I was better at playing this game, lol. But it's still fun.

So has anyone found any painful scrub/troll weapon combos yet like the CG+Explosives upgrade+Explosives Damage?

I have an i7 920 at stock with gtx 480 sli, 8GB DDR2.

I am sorry whats battle log? I was just using origin and it would open internet explorer to log in using my ea account[the browser would just freeze so that i couldn't log in].I managed to log in a couple of times but even when i logged in it was just too frustrating, I cant figure out if it was laggy.

Turn HT off and you'll see that 50% go to 100%. It's trickery. You may be using half the number of simultaneous threads the CPU can processes but you're using 100% of it's power.

Not that one should upgrade based on task manager anyway. If it runs well it runs well. Just trying to point out that your CPU isn't exaclty cutting through the game with just half the effort even though that's how it may look in task manager.

Thanks for the response, I was really curious about how well this was actually implemented, since they've been really hyping it up.

Sounds quite cool.

Did it also make it more difficult/inaccurate to fire, as they've claimed?

Maybe you didn't return fire when it happened, but I'd love to know if they really managed to make it that in-depth/effective.

Oh, it definitely does what its designed to do. When my screen blurs I duck and take cover. I would say it does make it a pain to try and hit longer range targets, but that might also be in part to the low graphical settings, and it being difficult to distinguish players at times.

I am finding it to be difficult to score hits with sniper rifles even after holding my breath. I'm putting shots right on players heads, but not even scoring a hit. I'm sure we won't see near the amount of snipers in BF3 as we see in BC2.

Finally, if you haven't made it to second or third phase yet on Metro it is AWESOME.

I download the alpha and when I try and play it tells me my driver version is 275.33 and I need 274.39 to play. Yet when I go to Nvidia's site it shows 275.33 as the latest driver. I have a Galaxy GTS 450.

LTR: you have to click on the "Download drivers" tab then click on "Beta and Archieved Drivers".

See PC in sig, i am getting 90% utilization of my CPU, 70% RAM useage and im getting 40-50FPS on BF3. I have it at 1920x1080 60Hz, High setting, fullscreen. Im a bit worried because this is a not-feature-full Alpha at DX10 and im getting minimum playable FPS, im curious what FPS il get when its the full game with DX11.

When the error window comes up, telling you to use the that 275.39 driver which doesn't even exist, just hit ok and ignore it. The game is actually loading in the background and will still let you in.

the tunnels are awesome, its like fighting in a full on subway system rather than a half assed one obviously designed around poor map limitations.

Add BF3 to Steam, launch it, it will start Origin etc etc. Join a game and the overlay works.

The NDA thing has been there since day 1.

And just because you weren't around to see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. BC2 has had it's login server blow up a few times along with stats going down.

And yes you dolt they are adding more shit, they've literally fucking said it. More weapon changes are coming, more gameplay changes are coming, menus will be fixed, etc etc. THE ALPHA CLIENT IS NOT THE LATEST BUILD IT IS MISSING SHIT ALREADY ADDED.

It bothers me when people get into alphas/betas just to play a pre-release version and see what it's like without reporting any issues to the forum, just because people will complain post-release about bugs and issues that weren't fixed from the Alpha, despite not recording and reporting them/testing the game themselves.

Wow. The game runs like crap on my aging system. 20-35fps on high @ 1680x1050.

Other than that it feels like a different game from BC2. The first thing I thought of was this is gonna be BC3.......but I ended up really liking the alpha. Feels much different than BC2.

I keep getting stuck on nothing and cant move or jump over in certain areas. The game has crashed a couple of times too, but for the most part I'm happy. This looks to be promising, cant wait to see what the air vehicles are like. I'm running the game at 1920x1200 with med settings and doing fine with the rig in my sig. I can run it fine on high but, staying at med to get a couple more fps. Pretty smooth. Oh I filled out the alpha trial survey aswell.
