Add BF3 to Steam, launch it, it will start Origin etc etc. Join a game and the overlay works.

Doesn't work for me, and I have not found anyone else claiming that it works.

And just because you weren't around to see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. BC2 has had it's login server blow up a few times along with stats going down.

I was, didn't stop anyone playing the game however.

And yes you legend they are adding more shit, they've literally fucking said it. More weapon changes are coming, more gameplay changes are coming, menus will be fixed, etc etc. THE ALPHA CLIENT IS NOT THE LATEST BUILD IT IS MISSING SHIT ALREADY ADDED.

You obviously have not been involved in many public alpha/beta tests. Anyway I cant be bothered debating this further with you. We will see how the beta turns out.

I don't know how anyone can think this is the latest build of the game when there isn't even a main menu and the options screen has like 5 parameters to change. They already said all the menus are placeholder.

Thank god,
I am not a big fan of the alpha,For me it felt like a cross of COD and BC2.

I agree that it feels like a cross between the two series, and to me that's exactly what I'm looking for. I always liked the big open areas and vehicles of BC2 but I felt the gun fights and door-to-door/in doors fighting was always smoother and more responsive in COD. This feels like a nice blend of both :)

Game is pretty fun after getting used to it, and getting past the first two mcom stations. Runs at high settings, 1900x1200 flawlessly on my rig.

The subway station is very good fun... when the attackers make it there lol... When I defend I try and convince my team to let the attackers blow up the start MCOMS... hasn't worked yet. So I've been in the subway mayyybe 6 times out of 20 games... beyond that only once!

I've yet to see the 4th set of MCOM's for more that a few minutes (happened to join a server that was just at the end of the game on the 4th part)

I'd say 80% of the games I've played were the 1st set of MCOM's, 15% in the first part of the Subway, 5% on the last sets of MCOM's.

I've never seen them if we started the game from the start, only randomly joining a game already in progress.

I hope that carries over to release...getting CGed in BFBC2 shits me to tears.

I actually never had a big problem with Carl Gustav whoring in BC2, on the other hand I feel like every other game my entire team is either snipers, or I'm getting raped by slugs/shotgun combo or my team is trying to attack as defenders, leaving like 2 people to defend.
/short rant of the day

Ive got a feeling they're going to do some adjustments to Metro...or at least I hope so because, as its been stated, the attackers rarely ever get to the final MCOMs. Ive got like 10-12 hours logged in the alpha and have been to the final stage two...maybe three times.

That's because the group spawn is non functioning right now. During the earlier portions of the game either the round would finish at the park or at the end in the city. But now the Marines have to hump all the way from the spawns during the Subway/Ticketing/City areas, giving the defense an advantage.

So far I am liking it. it took a bit to get used to it, and once I did i have been enjoying it more and more.

looking forward to the BETA with all the features added in. Can't judge teamwork when the squad system is not even implemented all the way.....

Nice.

For Single Player, there are 9 levels, 4 of which are long enough to be multi-part.

For Multiplayer, there are 10 levels, all with multiple modes. The article and the list go up to 12, but I see that MP_010 and MP_011 are missing from the list. I wonder if the "Back to Karkand" expansion is included in that list?

I don't think the back to karkand maps are in that list so that adds 4 more bringing the MP total to 16.

Also I keep seeing people say they have updated their alpha client. Was/is there an updated client I somehow missed? Someone on the alpha forums said they uninstalled and reinstalled and got a different version? Maybe he has no clue.

lol bs

The CG and the m60 are still op. I do not use them b/c I tend to get banned quicker.

lol M60, not even close anymore. The CG is still better than every other explosive weapon at killing infantry but it's come a long way from where it was at release. I fondly remember triple kill sniping people on the other side of the map with it.

Here is the news post from the Battlelog in-case you missed it and tend to read [H] more than there.

I hear there is a new version of the alpha trial? Is this correct?
There is a new version, you can get it through deleting your origin cache, download the AT client and re-install it.

Here are some questions and answers to that :):

Do I need the new version?

No, it´s optional.

What does the new version entail?

Fixed so Bug sentry sends crash info
Fixed a telemetry error that caused some reporting to be wrong
Fixed a exe problem that allowed clients to visually host server
Adjusted the value of several scoring events
Tweaked balance on some weapons

We recommend nVidia players go and download the nvVidia 280.19 beta drivers from www.nvidia.com as it contains changes which should improve the BF3 Alpha Trial experience.

Service stars:

Now have names to show why you got it
Reduced to 2000 points (previously 10000)

Scoring:

Repair points now work for both squad and the rest of the team
Resupply points now work for both squad and the rest of the team

Ribbons

A few adjustments to criteria needed for ribbons.

Weapons:

Increased damage of bolt sniper rifles at long ranges for two hit kills.
Fixed so claymore mines will detonate and damage properly. Note you can crouch or prone to move past a mine without detonating it.
Adjusted the distance fall off for all automatic weapons. Weapons retain their power in extreme CQB but require an addition hit to kill at longer ranges.
Increased the headshot bonus to reward players for accurate fire at long ranges.
Fixed a bug where Snipers were never perfectly accurate like they should have been.
Increased the range of shotgun pellets to better fit our battle distances.
Tweaked the recoil of the G36C, this weapon had far too little recoil.

Will I be able to join my friends in-game who use the old version?

Yes. You will be able to join your friends :)

How exactly do we do that? Where is the cache located? I've dug through the Origin files in the Program files folder...

Hah, there was a guy getting ridiculous KDRs with this gun a couple days ago, guess that explains it.

Thanks for the heads up and ya I did miss the client update info at the aplha forums. That said, I'm gonna pass on bothering with the update since I'm not even playing the alpha anymore and I need to uninstall it. I'll wait for the beta for MOH le people (I'm one of them) which hopefully comes soon and brings with it a much better client and nvidia releases new whql's so I can run tri sli and also fixes the frezzing issues and what not. All in all the alpha was decent and I really wanna play this game but not in it's current state. I want to see it running properly on my rig and enjoy it as close as possible to how it will be at release. Not this sillyness.

I believe it's in the Origin settings named "Delete All Game Installers."

thats a negative..you have to uninstall the game through Control panel/Programs

also you need to delete this file:C:\ProgramData\Origin\DownloadCache and
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Origin\WebCache
plus you need to be exited from origin.
when you log back on..you just redownload it.

Well it's kinda too late now. I don't want to re-download. Anyone know what the new client version is? Couldn't find it anywhere.

IMHO:
it shouldnt be called BF3..more like BC3.

I know..i know.."Its a Alpha"

but it takes bc2 and MoH..put them together..and you get this.

Hopefully its improved upon in the beta..

Does the alpha build have jets, boats, or 64 player support?

If it does then I don't see how it can be like BC2 and MoH since neither game has any of those.

If it doesn't, then "it's an Alpha" is the appropriate response.

No.

I seriously doubt the game will change significantly enough to not feel like BC2.5 between now and release.

Well that's a contradiction if i've ever heard one. 64 players, boats, jets are all major factors. In fact, it was exactly these things that made BF2 and previous BF games what they were. To say there won't be "much" difference when we know the final build will have all these is silly.

Sniping is useless right now. Accuracy is out the door and bullet drop is a total guess. I can't even see my bullets like BC2.

I rather enjoyed the alpha. While it has its share of issues, I was able to overlook them due to the fact that it's an alpha. Now, if the issues remain unchanged in the closed beta, then I'll start to complain a bit, but honestly, this game still has a few months to release, so I'm withholding most of my criticism until we have the actual game to mess around with.

Anway, I'm going to rip the HD 6950 out of my backup rig and slap it into my current gaming rig in a Crossfire config (yes, the 1GB will bottleneck my 2GB, but I'm not too concerned, seeing as I won't be spending any money. Why not try it?), since the current graphics are in no way indicative of those of the final game (I hope).
